Not all wizards were born to be heroes. Things not to do when you find out you’re a wizard:#1 Do not destroy your apartment with magical fire. You WILL NOT get the security deposit back.#2 Do not form an alliance with the guy who is trying to murder you. This will end badly.#3 Do not drag the girl you’re desperately in love with into your wizard mess. You risk her watching you fail miserably.#4 … not drag the girl you’re desperately in love with into your wizard mess. You risk her watching you fail miserably.
#4 Under no circumstances should you get in the middle of an epic magical battle. Death will happen. Lots of death and bad things.

Author Interview
Why did you choose to write a fantasy book that heavily involves a cell phone?
Phones are a huge part of everyday life. Smart phone are these tiny pieces of massive technology we use everyday without really thinking about how astounding they are. But what if phones could be used for more than just scrolling through social media? What if an entire magical library could be hidden in your pocket? I wanted modern convenience to meet magic in a new way.
What does Bryant Adams bring to the world of wizards that readers haven’t seen before?
Bryant Adams is not your standard hero. He is not the chosen one, and the world may be doomed if he’s in charge of saving us all.
Bryant is a geek—the nerdy sidekick of the coolest kid in high school—who’s trying really hard to survive being a wizard but is too terrified to talk to the girl of his dreams.
He’s just a boy trying to get through his teen years without too much emotional damage…and then magic happens.
Who would enjoy this book?
If you like humor with a touch of snark, romance with a hint of wit, and magic that might destroy the world as we know it, Bryant Adams is the wizard for you.

This was my first experience with Megan O’Russell’s work and I enjoyed it very much. This book is about an average teenage boy who is just trying to get through life when he finds a cellphone that has unusual apps. Bryant is surprised to find that he can access the phone and that is when his life becomes even more complicated. The story is fun and entertaining and filled with many twists and turns. I was delighted by the characters, the flashes of humor, and the magic. I’m looking forward to the next book in the series. Jacob McNatt’s narration is great and he provides various voices for the different characters. I was given a free copy of the audiobook and I have voluntarily left this review.
How I Magically Messed Up My Life In Four Freaking Days is well written and lots of fun. I enjoyed the storyline and the characters. The audio narrations is also enjoyable to listen to!
It starts with an innocent act – finding what turns out to be an indestructible magic cell phone, and wanting to return it to it’s rightful owner. But when said rightful owner takes your mom hostage and calls you a thief, you know things are not going to go the way you planned. Bryant is a typical nerd-type, with a good looking best friend, a crush on the girl of his dreams. When he discovers he’s a wizard, the three of them find themselves on a wild and often scary adventure, caught between two sides, each wanting to control the world of magic in their own way. There’s plenty of action, lots of magic, and some very typical (but still cute and fun) teen drama. These three aren’t just thrown together randomly, we learn they each have their strengths in this journey. The world building is interesting, and the characters intriguing. My favorite line sums it all up quite nicely, “the devil’s in the details, but Fate, she don’t give a shit”.
We follow Bryant who is a geeky kid-but he isn’t your ordinary geeky kid. His mom is the drama teacher and his dad is a millionaire. Devon is his best friend, and we meet Elizabeth who is Bryant’s crush.
We find the trio stomping around New York, who finds themselves running away from danger in a fun, fantasy and magical adventure. All thanks to a mysterious cell phone!
From the beginning I was enthralled by this story and I enjoyed every second of it. I completely understand the book cover now.
The audiobook is narrated by Jacob McNatt, and he does a wonderful job portraying all of the characters. If you enjoy YA fantasy and magical books then I highly recommend this series.
“How I Magically Messed Up My Life In Four Freakin’ Days” by Megan O’Russell is a young adult urban fantasy with a likeable hero dealing with normal teen issues (e.g. loves a girl, too shy to talk to her; parents) and not so normal ones – nice twist re his dad. Then add magic! Kaboom! Bryant’s life explodes into action and a whole different world. Well-written and entertaining with a positive vibe.
