I received a complimentary copy of this book and I am voluntarily reviewing it.
This was a quick sweet read. (Quick because I couldn’t put it down.) This story is wonderful in showing how a relationship takes work and both give and take. Both Brie and Dante are teachers at the same school. Brie had been kidnapped and after a year in therapy is a stronger more independent person. Dante lost his father while he was in high school. That left him as the only man of the house with a mother and two older sisters. Being half-Italian and watching over his family, he becomes over-protective. Brie doesn’t like that about him as she has come so far. Some mysterious things start to happen and Dante can’t overcome his protective nature. Can Brie and Dante work through their issues? Is Brie being stalked or just the victim of several unfortunate incidents?
The story has multiple POVs here. I love that. It is wonderful to see how different characters think and why they reacted and speak in such manner. Also prior characters make several appearance.
I loved how the plot flowed and the characters interacted. There were times when I thought Brie was being little difficult which totally isn’t in the character’s nature but again how her POV shown really helped me to understand her more clearly.
I highly recommend this book, really the entire series.

This is the fourth book in Kathryn Shay’s Gentileschi Sisters series. In spite of that, a reader will have no trouble with the story, because the author does a fantastic job of giving necessary background information. However, early characters do appear in this book, and some past plots are mentioned. Therefore, I think the reader will find the book more enjoyable if she reads them in order.
The premise of this series is that the heroines are all princesses. Their parents are the king and queen of a small country in Italy. However, all six sisters live and work in The United States where they attempt to live ordinary lives.
This is the story of Gabriella, Brie, who is a 27 year old fourth grade teacher. In one of the past books, Brie was kidnapped. To help her overcome this incident, Brie sees a therapist and uses Yoga to continually help her cope with her trauma.
Dante Frederico is a Gym teacher at Brie’s school. The last Gym teacher had to leave because he was involved in Brie’s kidnapping. Although, he had nothing to do with any part of the crime, Brie and the other teachers at the school have found it difficult to befriend him.
When this book begins, Brie meets Dante when she accidentally hits Dante’s car. Brie takes responsibility and decides that this is a good time for her to make friends with Dante. She realizes that this will help him make friends with the rest of the faculty. When Brie and Dante realize they are attracted to each other, they choose to date.
Unfortunately, Dante becomes overprotective. Brie, who has worked hard since the kidnapping to become a strong woman again, is extremely bothered by his attitude. This presents a lot of problems for their relationship.
The author also includes several interesting side plots in this novella. There are problems with a student’s father that is addressed. And, there is also some intrigue that happens near the end of the story.
This is a short novella with fascinating characters and a plot that is so complex and well-written that I never realized that this was a short story.
Fun Fact: All of the titles in this series are named after classic love songs.
Another great story by Shay!
School teachers Brie and Dante, leaving she bumps into his car truck. She has spent sixteen months getting her confidence and self image back. She could do this, saying she would pay for the damages. He only wanted to have coffee for a week in the school. She still insisted to pay for damages. A student with a sensitive nature would be coming, and Brie and Dante would be working with the student. The other teachers were advised to look for any bullying, teasing that might go on. The author handled a sensitive subject very well. Another good story and to this series. Given ARC for my voluntary review and my honest opinion
This is the 4th book in the series but can be read as a stand alone with no problem. Brie and Dante are teachers at the same school. Unfortunately, Dante replaced a man that Brie had a bad experience with so she’s avoided him. Once she decides to get to know him better, she finds he’s a really nice guy and wants to spend more time with him. Dante also enjoys spending time with Brie and together they work to try to help a student deal with a rough situation at home that has kids bullying him at school. But Dante is very protective and Brie finds this overwhelming. As always the sisters are there for each other and help work through the situation so that there is a HEA. I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving my review.
ARC for honest review with no compensation 4.5 stars
How Deep is Your Love is book 4 in the Gentileschi Sisters series by Kathryn Shay and was my first book to read in this series! While a standalone it took a little to understand Brie’s problem with Dante… but didn’t take away from the amazing story!!
This story deals with stalking, bullying, sexual predator and his child’s emotions, kidnapping aftermath, romance, steamy and protective instincts. It will keep you turning the pages wondering what will happen next…love Ms. Shay’s books!!
3.5 Stars
I liked the concept of this story and the characters. They were real and honest. I did find it choppy in places.
This is Gabriella (Brie) Gentileschi’s story. Brie’s been reluctant to get to know Dante Federico until fate steps in and takes a hand. As they slowly get to know each other, a deeper attraction begins to grow. But there’s something more sinister going on, bringing out Dante’s more forceful protective nature. His reactions cause Brie’s hard-fought-for independence to push back, which may put an end to their relationship before it really has a chance. When clouds of doubt begin to also grow, a real threat emerges which could bring Brie’s safety to an end.
This is not just your typical cookie cutter romance. It’s also a story of bullying, stalking, the effects of child predation on the predator’s own children, and methods of dealing with and healing from these issues. All sensitive subjects that are handled in a positive and thought-provoking manner.
Come along with Brie and Dante while they deal with life’s bumps and bruises, both physical and emotional. You may find their relationship frustrating at times, but there is also charm and heartwarming affection. Their love story is a roller coaster ride of emotions, drama, a moment of suspense, and some steamy passion. This is an engaging and entertaining read that you may find hard to put down. I recommend this very enjoyable romance!
In this continuation of the Gentileschi sisters series, this time the story belongs to school teacher Gabriella/Brie and Dante Federico, the school’s fairly new PE teacher. He’s someone she has avoided since he reminds her of the man that had kidnapped her the previous year.
As time goes on, Brie starts warming up to him, especially when a child needs their help .
Though it wasn’t my favorite all time story of the series, what wins the author high marks is the underlying subject matters she brings to the forefront.
1- The consequences the family and especially the children have to endure when a parent is a sexual predator. These are frequently forgotten in society.
2- Bullying in schools needs to be addressed by educating not only the students but also the teaches and administrators.
3- Protectiveness to an extreme can be a hinderance in a relationship.
4- Therapy and counseling is not for the weak and should be encouraged when matters are too much to handle.
Lastly, family and communication are important for a healthy relationship.
I always appreciated the fact that Ms. Shay gives us female characters that are flawed like all of us, as well as strong individuals.
Looking forward to the next story of the series.
I was entrusted a copy of this book. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
Kathryn Shay has provided another riveting installment of the Gentileschi sisters saga. Book four is the story of Brie and Dante. Life has not been easy for either of them. Brie has spent a year shunning her coworker, Dante, because of his position at the school where she teaches. And then they connect in a most unique way. Kathryn Shay has weaved a tale of these two people that includes unexpected twists. I love her writing style as she also updates on characters from the previous books. A 5 star read.
I’ve been looking forward to this book since we met Dante when Lexy visited Brie’s school, and I wasn’t disappointed. We meet more of the Gentlischis in this book, which is also a pleasure, and, as usual, the sisters support each other – occasionally they get it wrong, which is also heartening . This is Brie’s story, and her determination to be strong wars with Dante’s innate determination to protect – so there are fireworks. There’s also a good twist in the tale that really makes this book, in my opinion. Kathryn Shay’s writing never disappoints, and this is a must-read for fans of the royal sisters.
I received an advance copy of this work.
