A strong cast of characters and a great storyline keeps you reading. The Hannigan sisters return home for their mother’s funeral and decide to stay. Each sister with their own drama and decisions to make and a secret about to emerge after years of secrecy.
I purchased this book a few weeks ago but had not reviewed for some reason
The characters were well developed, the dialogue (both verbal and non-verbal) was of such high quality that I felt like I was watching an up-close movie. I loved it. I liked how it was on the up-and-up, meaning the relationships were wholesome and real, with faults just like we see and feel in our lives( but without tons of cheap drama.) I appreciate that.
The pace was great, she gave me images I haven’t seen before. I loved the minor characters (the sweet middle schooler was a favorite). They added to the story. The one boyfriend made me laugh because he was so ridiculous without realizing it. I’m still chuckling.
The scenery was beautiful. Details really made me feel alive and reflect on times I’ve been in similar situations.
The potential for other great stories is rich. I look forward to them!
Nora Hannigan, matriarch of the Hannigan family, has died, and her four daughters, Kate, Amelia, Megan, and Clara are there to take care of the funeral arrangements and the reading of the will. It’s just a formality as Nora had everything taken care of awhile ago. Well, that’s what the Hannigan girls believed, until they find out at the reading of the will, that Nora made some changes to her will before she died, and one of the girls is left out of the will. (cue the dramatic music)
This is a story of four sisters who I imagine used to be very close, but life took over and they’ve kind of drifted apart. Now they’re all back together because of their mother’s death. Through chapters from each sister’s perspective we learn what their lives have been like up until now, and a little of what they hope for the future. We see how they deal with the changes in their lives after the death of their mother, and the huge surprise she left them in her will.
I like the alternating perspectives in the chapter so we get to know each of the sisters, and more about their mother. I don’t want to give anything away, but they end up having a bigger issue to deal with than who’s going to get which property. I liked the way the situation was handled and that the sisters were closer at the end of the book. Each of them had come to decisions about their lives, some more painful than others.
I don’t consider this a romance, but more of women’s fiction. I look forward to reading more books about Birch Harbor. There is some mild cursing in the book.
A mother passes and 4 sisters come together to deal with the loss along with the reading of the will… straight forward right?! Wrong!! This books sucks you in and keeps you there till the last page, the way things unfold and you connect with the characters who are all very different, have great depth, things you like or not so like about them and a big secret hanging over them all that will change their lives going forward. This is a book I would read over and over as I loved it so much and now I can not wait to see how things unfold for Kate, Amelia, Megan and of course the baby of the family Clara.

This is my first book by this author and it is fascinating! It has a plot that keeps you turning the pages and each chapter is told by one of the sisters so you get all points of view. There are well developed characters but not much romance in this story. I am looking forward to more books in this series! I highly recommend this wonderful story!
I received an advance copy of this book from the author and I voluntarily wrote an honest review.

This book was my introduction to Elizabeth Bromke and I’m happy that it was. I truly enjoyed House on the Harbor. It was a tiny bit slow to start for me, but once it hooked me I couldn’t put it down. I loved the characters! I laughed and cried with the sisters. I could picture in my minds eye the community that it was set in. I can’t wait to read more about Birch Harbor.
Sisters, Secrets, and Sacrifices
This book starts a new series. The reading of a mother’s will sets loose all sorts of issues with her 4 daughters. This is a good women’s literature piece that explores the family dynamic. It is such a riveting story that I stayed up well past my bedtime to read it. I would have never guessed the final outcome. The ending leaves plenty of room for more stories. I received this ARC book for free from Booksprouts and this is my honest review.

This is a well written book that will keep you turning the pages to see what happens next. The author’s words makes the book come to life and the people become your friends. I can’t wait for the next book in this series. Absolutely wonderful read!! I received an ARC copy of this book and was not required to write a review. All opinions expressed are my own.
I enjoyed this book, House on the Harbor by Elizabeth Bromke. It was hard to put down after I started reading it. The shock at the reading of Nora’s will when the four daughters are at the lawyer’s office is nothing compared to the family secret that is revealed later. The suspense of what the secret is takes most of the book to be revealed, but that is what keeps you reading. The book ends well and makes me look forward to the next book about this family, because it is clear that there is more to come. I highly recommend this book.

This was another great story about four sisters dealing with the aftermath of their mother’s death and the settling of her will. The story left you wondering what was going to happen next. The author has such a gift for getting the reader right to the heart of things. It gripped me emotionally and I’m still thinking about it the next day. Lots of surprises in this story so you will have to read this wonderful book to get your answers. Highly recommend this book. I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book.
This is a well written book with a cast of strong, well developed characters and an interesting story line. The author brings four sisters to Birch Harbor together for the reading of their mother’s will which reveals a family secret that shocks them all. Along with the subplots the author weaves an entertaining story with drama and tension and keeps you reading to the end to find the answer to the secret. I enjoyed reading their story.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. All opinions in this review are my own and freely given.
I absolutely loved this book. Four sisters have returned home to bury their mother and deal with her estate. It is the first book I have read by Elizabeth Bromke and she really reined me in. She gives the readers a fairly good insight into all the sisters, even though the main story for some will appear in the next books. She did an incredible job of drawing out the mystery. At first you just know that SOMETHING is going on, but she gives you absolutely no hint as to what that something is. You are given tiny bit by tiny bit and it keeps you wanting to stay with the book and just keep turning those pages! Now I can’t wait for the next book!
I was given a complimentary copy of this book. All thoughts are my own.
Nora has passed away leaving her daughters Kate, Amelia, Megan and Clara to gather for the reading of her will. She leave everyone something but one. Each grown young lady has family issues to deal with.
A nice clean read that keeps you entertained from page to page!
