I have read every one of Ainsley St Claire’s books and have yet to be disappointed. The story behind Jonnie and Maggie was amazing. How it started, the craziness in between and then how it finally came into place. The twists and turns in the story were believable and kept me engaged throughout. It was hard to put the book down… I could have just bing read the entire thing if sleep wasn’t essential ;).
I truly enjoy Ainsley St. Claire’s writing style and story lines. I look forward to her new releases and hope she can get them out quicker than I can finish the previous book!

Jonathan and Maggie are both dynamic characters who know the meaning of love and loyalty to their friends and family. Maggie’s sense of duty are in conflict with what her heart desires…Jonathan. Woven amidst shifting family dynamics, intrigue and romance Jonathan and Maggie fight to be together.

An engaging story about love and greed. Jonathan thinks he finally has his life in order and is ready to be married only to watch his plans derail. Maggie gets the shock of her life when her father dies and she loses control of everything. This is a twisted drama where a family loves money more than each other and it almost destroys them. Maggie and Jonathan with the help of good friends and her siblings, stave off the dangers and manage to get the outcome they were hoping for.
3 1/2 Stars
So, I loved the way it started out with Jonathan’s POV and how he’ was so excited to see Maggie again. He loved her and wanted to make his declaration for their HEA. I was looking forward to their relationship that seemed to be full of good romantic feels.
It kind of fell flat with Maggie and the whole marriage plans to her BFF thing, and I never really got back on the Maggie fan club. I like my heroines a little bit stronger, and a lot more savvy.
Jonathan (Jonnie) was a worthy hero but his nickname made me think of a ten year old boy, so not too sexy even though there were many many graphic scenes with this main couple. I never really felt the emotional connection between these two. So much other drama going on with Maggie’s mother and with Alex that distracted instead of enhancing the storyline.

If you enjoy a book where our heroine constantly makes stupid decisions and leaves you shaking your head constantly, then this is the book for you. The book starts with Jonnie ready to propose even though they’ve never really dated and had slept together months earlier. Maggie’s life is in Minneapolis, but he went to Vegas and built a casino for her. Before he can propose though, she announces she is marrying her gay best friend to fulfill her father’s will and keep the family company going.
The romance comes and goes in this book because Jonnie and Maggie spend so much of it apart. The whole storyline with the family company takes up a lot of time for Maggie and Jonnie is dealing with other minor storylines – one of which is left hanging at the end of this book and I can’t figure out how it plays in to the rest of the series.
The book was slow at the start, but did pick up. However, once Maggie’s dumb decision in Vegas went down, I lost interest fast. Frankly, this is a book where I think the HEA is Jonnie finding someone better to him.

This is the first time I’ve read Ainsley St. Claire. I didn’t have any issues starting this new series with characters that came from other books by this author.
Long time friends Maggie and Jonathan have had a secret relationship for a little bit but he’s wanting to make it more. Then Maggie hits him with “I’m getting married.” Say what now? HA!
The book is Jonathan’s quest to prove to Maggie they belong together and Maggie’s quest to fulfill her father’s last will and testament to keep the family business. Even if that means giving Jonathan up.
Y’all know what I say – communication is key! They do a somewhat decent job of talking to one another but it’s always after the fact not when they really need to converse.
They have lots of secrets to uncover in House of Cards to ultimately figure out who has the best hand.
Enjoyable read with plenty of drama but wish there had been more romance to show their budding relationship. I received a free copy of this book. This review was posted voluntarily.
3.5 stars House of Cards by Ainsley St Claire. Overall, I thought this book was okay, but I feel like it could have been better. I had a hard time connecting with the main characters and I felt that Jonathan should have been more forthright in his plans and decisions; whereas Maggie just seemed to be doing things her family wanted/needed her to do without thought or want. Book seemed long with all the inner repeated dialogue. But I will say I thought the plot was good, plenty of action and drama too, as well as a HEA.
