Who needs mistletoe? Most people wouldn’t think of a bad Santa case as the perfect Christmas gift. Then again, Molly Malone, office manager at Hunt Investigations, isn’t most people, and she could really use a distraction from the fantasies she’s been having since spending the night with her very secret crush, Lucas Knight. Nothing happened, not that Lucas knows that—but Molly just wants to enjoy … that—but Molly just wants to enjoy being a little naughty for once . . .
Whiskey and pain meds for almost-healed bullet wounds don’t mix. Lucas needs to remember that next time he’s shot on the job, which may be sooner rather than later if Molly’s brother, Joe, finds out about them. Lucas can’t believe he’s drawing a blank on his (supposedly) passionate tryst with Molly, who’s the hottest, smartest, strongest woman he’s ever known. Strong enough to kick his butt if she discovers he’s been assigned to babysit her on her first case. And hot enough to melt his cold heart this Christmas.

Ever since I was introduced to Molly in the earlier Heartbreaker Bay books, I could NOT wait for her story!
While Jill is great at writing about Alpha Males, she is also great at writing about badass, strong, independent women, and men that also recognize that. While Lucas may think that getting involved with Molly is trouble with a capital T, he still stands up for her and has her back when it comes to her and her brother.
Molly and Lucas have both been through a lot and hold everyone at arms length. They are honestly perfect for one another, helping the other deal with their issues but also show how strong they really are.
This book was just fantastic. You will not regret this amazing read!
Lucas Knight never wants to get shot again. If thinking the pain from a bullet in your side was bad, being stuck at home not released for work duty is a bigger pain to deal with. To top it off he wakes up with a woman at his side and no memory of how they got there. He gets the hell out of his apartment before she wakes up and it gets awkward. Making his way into the office to see if maybe he could fudge his way around his non-release and get back into a case. Joe and Archer might throw him a bone if they see him around the office.
Molly Malone is tired of living as Joe’s younger sister or just the office help. She wants to get her own case to solve for their company and thinks Santa might just be the way. Waking up in Lucas’ bed, even knowing nothing happened, lands her the perfect opportunity to get what she wants one way or another.
Molly and Lucas set out to vindicate the angry elves and figure out the money trail. All the while they start understanding their attraction to each other. Can they find a way to mix business and pleasure for the whole package?
I loved this book, my first Heartbreaker Bay book to read (though I have most on my TBR shelf). I absolutely loved the hashtags as chapter titles angle. And the relationship between Molly and Lucas has all the dimensions we look for in a partner. Her father brings awareness to PTSD and protective father’s humor where their daughters are concerned. I voluntarily read an advance copy without expectations for review. Any and all opinions expressed are my own. 4 ½ stars for this return to Heartbreaker Bay.
4 stars. Hot Winter Nights is a good book! This is Molly and Lucas’s story. Molly and Lucas both work in Heartbreaker Bay at Hunt Investigations. Lucas is one of the investigators and Molly is the office manager. Molly wants to begin working as an investigator too, but the men in the office are protective of her, especially her older brother, and reluctant to give her a chance. When her neighbor, an elderly woman who works as an elf at a Santra attraction, comes to her for help finding out why Santa isn’t paying them the wages they are owed, Molly decides to take the case. Lucas is secretly assigned by his boss to help her with her investigation and keep her safe. Lucas and Molly both have an attraction and chemistry between them but neither act on it until they start spending time together working on this case. As they spend time together, they begin to fall for each other and heat up the cold Winter nights together.
I really liked Lucas and Molly. Both had been through a lot in their pasts. But I loved that, despite their vulnerability, they had open hearts for each other. They did not push each other away too much. Lucas and Molly were sweet and sexy together and they also made a great investigative team. I really liked the elves and Santa theme; it was funny and cute. I did think the conflict wrapped up a bit too close to the end. I wanted to see a bit more happy times and resolution before the end of the book. Still, I enjoyed this book and Lucas and Molly’s relationship progression and journey to love.
Overall, this was a cute, sexy, emotional and funny book! I love this series. All of the books are good and enjoyable. I can’t wait for more from the Heartbreaker Bay series!
Jill Shalvis does it again! When you have geriatric elves, a bad Santa, a strong willed heroine and a hot but sweet alpha hero, you’ve got an entertaining read that makes your day better.
Absolutely loved this book. The heat between Molly and Lucas sizzled off the page. Though a love story I also loved the edge of mystery and suspense. Plus add in a holiday theme and you have a winner. Santa is naughty.
I loved this book from start to finish! Molly was kickass and didn’t let her past injury keep her down long. She set out to prove herself to these guys at Hunt Investigations and she DID! Lucas was awesome, from his alpha-ness to his wit to his love for his family, and knowing he was going to fall? I didn’t put this book down willingly. The cast of characters always slays me and makes me laugh! Can’t wait to see who’s next!
Hot Winter Nights was a delightful read full of friends, fun and laughs. Molly and Lucas were wonderful together. They have amazing g chemistry together off the clock and make wonderful partners while working the case. Molly prices herself to the men in her life that she’s capable of handling a case and herself when things go wrong
Lucas…….wow……..alpha male all the way……Molly……the alpha female who can tame the alpha male. Fast pace, funny, sweet, heart wrenching, and yummy all at once.
Lucas and Molly work together. He’s one of the Alpha males, no stranger to danger, and at this time, injured. She’s the office manager, who keeps being told NO by her boss and her brother who also happen to be Alpha males and want to keep her safe.
Lucas also ended up naked, in his bed, with Molly, and she’s going to use that to her best advantage!!
Molly’s elderly friends think they’re being taken advantage of where they work, and Molly thinks this is her chance to prove herself and sets out to help her buddies. Of course her brother and her boss find out and send, not cleared for work Lucas, to keep an eye on Molly, still not knowing of the naked encounter, because then they’d just kill him.
Hilarity ensues.
I’m loving the Heartbreaker Bay series and Hot Winter Nights, the newest in the series, is a ton of fun! Molly and Lucas play off of each other so well! Visits to Lucas’s family, Molly’s Dad with a gun, trying to keep their naked encounters on the down low from the rest of the group, Molly as an elf, and Lucas as a Santa in bad tights…SO MUCH FUN!
Ms. Shalvis writes books that I read in one sitting. If I need an emotional pick me up, or a funny, easy, read, she’s my go to author!
Don’t let the title fool you! Hot Winter Nights is a book you need to get your hands on no matter what time of year it is. This is book 6 in the Heartbreaker Bay Series and while I was able to read it as a standalone, I think I may have enjoyed it even more had I read the other books first. All of the characters that we meet in this book have been mentioned throughout the others. This book focuses on Lucas and Molly and boy do they light the pages on fire.
Molly wants to be taken seriously at work and finally get her own case. When the case of the Bad Santa is turned down by her boss she decides to take it on by herself in order to prove just how ready she is. Lucas is just supposed to keep an eye on her to make sure she doesn’t get hurt but what he doesn’t count on is the chemistry between the two of them.
This book had so many things that I loved. The characters were amazing, and felt so real. The drama kept me on the edge of my seat and had me refusing to put my kindle down because I had to know what was going to happen next. There was mystery, suspense, heartbreak and healing. Everything you are looking for in a great book.
I can not wait to get my hands on the next book in this series! – By Alisa
Oh how I love coming back to Heartbreaker Bay! It’s like catching up with old friends!! And where there’s always love, drama and danger!!
It’s never a good thing when pain meds and alcohol are mixed. Lucas was recovering from a gun shot wound and went out with friends. He should have known better, but thought one drink wouldn’t matter. WRONG!! He just woke up and there’s a woman in his bed and he doesn’t remember a thing! But, when he finally gets to see who the mystery woman is in his bed…..he knows that gun shot wound is nothing compared to what Joe is going to do to him!
Molly is an Office Manager at Hunt Investigations. It took some doing to get Archer to hire her, but here she is. She’s hoping that one day they’ll throw some cases her way, but meanwhile, she’s just the Manager with mad skills that are being wasted! She wakes up in bed with Lucas one morning and even though she knows the “real” story, she can’t help but to mess with him because well….he deserves it!!
This was a fun, sexy, HOT, mysterious, dangerous and hilarious story!! Jill Shalvis is by far my favorite author and I always know when I start one of her books that I am in for an amazing adventure!!
This is the sixth book in the Heartbreaker series. I felt a little lost when characters (what I assume were from previous books) showed up. I would have liked to have read the previous five books before delving into this, however I do not think it is a must. I believe you can read this as a stand-alone and still enjoy this light, entertaining, sexy fun read! This has all the elements needed for a contemporary romance plus Jill Shalvis throws in some suspense/mystery to the story. I enjoyed the sexy flirtatious encounters between Lucas and (forbidden fruit) Molly. They had great chemistry. The only thing I disliked was that I didn’t read the 5 previous books and felt a little lost at a few points in the book, but that is to be expected when one starts reading a series already in progress. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and look forward to reading the next one. I will probably go back and read the previous ones so I can get caught up.Hot Winter Nights
Well now … another amazing story by Jill Shalvis! But are we really surprised? lol *sigh* This author has had my heart ever since I started reading her Lucky Harbor series long ago. She has a way of drawing you into the worlds she creates and you become part of the world. Her characters could be your friends. You want them to be your friends. She’s just so good at the #feels and the heart and the overall warmth of every journey she writes. And there is always humor. So much humor laced into the story. Hot Winter Nights was no exception and BONUS, we get to of my fave tropes: work-place romance mixed with best friend sibling! #win
I would say the story had a little of everything … from humor to intensity, sexy chemistry, captivating characters with growth and ease of read and a ridiculous push/pull between the leads that just keeps you reading and reading and reading until *no more words* (and then you’re sad or at least I was lol)! And even tho if you’re a fan of this author as I am and have a gazillion books by her, she still manages to make every story fresh and new. She’s gifted I tell ya and there should be no one not reading her stories!
Another fantastic read from Jill Shalvis! Though this book can be read as a stand alone it is so much better (my opinion) if read in order as part of the Heartbreaker Bay series. In an earlier book (Joe’s story: About that kiss) you meet Molly (Joe’s sister) and Lucas (Joe’s partner at work and best friend) and Hot Winter Nights re-introduces you to both of them and the fun begins. Both Molly and Lucas work for Hunt Investigations, with Molly working in the front office and Lucas in the field. But Molly wants to do more for her job and when her neighbor asks for her help, Molly wants to take the case. Neither Archer (boss) or Joe (brother) wants her to get involved but they both know Molly will not take no for an answer. Lucas, who is on light duty (until cleared by his doctor for more) is given the assignment to first try to dissuade Molly from getting involved and then (because they all know she will get involved) to work with her to help her and keep her safe. Though they have worked together for a couple of years, they don’t know much about each other’s lives outside the office. They both, apparently, have secret crushes on each other and after a funny opening scene in the book (no spoilers!) the roller-coaster ride begins. And it’s a great ride. Their interaction is funny and sweet and sexy – you see sides to both of them that you haven’t seen before. You get pulled in as they work together, fight together, fight their growing attraction to each other all the while working to solve their case. They both have loved and lost and neither wants to risk their heart for a real relationship… as the story progresses, they both realize that they want more but neither is willing to take that final step. Will they be able to find their way through all their hangups about love and loss and figure it out? You must read the book to find out if they finally find their happily ever after…. This book will not disappoint and I encourage everyone to read it!!
I love the Heartbreaker Bay series! This book is just as good as the rest! Not only do you get to revisit all the fun characters but Molly and Lucas really steam up the pages. This is a my bestfriend’s sister, maybe a little enemy to lovers mixed in too. Molly is use to testosterone alpha males working as a secretary for Hunt Investigations but when she wants to do investigating too her brother Joe and their boss Archer puts his foot down. But Molly doesn’t like to be told to sit and stay and Santa’s elves need her help what’s she suppose to do? Lucas is coming off sick leave but is still on light duty so his assignment of keeping Molly from taking the job take an unexpected turn! Lucas is not a relationship kind of guy and he sure wasn’t expecting sparks from his bestfriend’s little sister but life’s not predictable. Great chemistry, laugh out loud witty banter and a little suspense!
Jill’s books are like potato chips, you can never get enough. I always catch myself cracking up while reading her stories. Molly and Lucas story did not disappoint. After a night of pain meds and alcohol, Molly made Lucas believe they had slept together. Molly wanted to be an investigator. When the Elves approach her about Bad Santa she jumps at the change to help them. Since Lucas was on light duty he was asked by his boss to protect Molly while she did the investiging of Bad Santa. Their chemistry from the start was so powerful.
The Heartbreaker Bay Series is a must read. All the books are stand-alone. However, I suggest you read them all. They are fabulous!

Another Shalvis Gem!!!
Molly and Lucas were the perfect blend of sweet, sexy, funny, and action-packed! The banter and one-liners were top notch while the slight suspense and action scenes kept you turning the page.
Two of my favorite things about this series are the family feeling the group has and that we get a little wink, wink at the next couple in each book…and now I can’t wait to find out what is going on with Sadie and Caleb!
In “Hot Winter Nights” by Jill Shalvis we get the story of Molly and Lucas. Molly runs the Hunt Investigations office and Lucas is one of its private eyes. But Molly wants in on the action and after having a little fun at Lucas’s expense and using it as blackmail to get him to help her uncover a Bad Santa, their office relationship heats up in the bedroom.
But as they get closer to the truth the danger level also heats up and Lucas would do anything to keep Molly safe – even if it means taking a bullet.
This is my first Jill Shalvis book but will not be my last. I received an ARC and this is my honest review.
4.5 Stars
I am a longtime Jill Shalvis fan and a huge fan of holiday romances, so I was especially excited for Hot Winter Nights.
Molly is the office manager at Hunt Investigations and the bad Santa case is the perfect distraction to get her mind off her secret crush on Lucas. Only problem is, no one will agree to let her take the case. Lucas knows Molly is off limits. She’s Joe’s sister, works with him and is the kind of woman who deserves a committed relationship, something he avoids. When mixing pain meds and alcohol leads to him waking up naked next to Molly he’s suitably freaked out and he remembers nothing, which seems impossible. Though nothing happened, Molly’s ok with him thinking otherwise. When she takes on the bad Santa case despite everyone’s objections, Lucas is tasked with keeping an eye on her. As they investigate Lucas discovers Molly is more capable and amazing than he realised. Soon he’s reconsidering his anti relationship policy and Molly may just get to turn her fantasies into reality.
This was an adorable read. I loved the sexual tension between Molly and Lucas and the case they were investigating kept things interesting outside of their developing romance.
This book was so good. I loved the beginning with Lucas trying to figure out who was in his bed and then when he found out, too good. I have always liked Molly Malone and really enjoyed watching her come into her own in this book. It was fun watching her and Lucas go at it, she definitely isn’t one to take any guff from anyone. I always enjoy getting to spend time with our friends we’ve gotten to know and this time we spent time with the knitting elves, Lucas’ crazy family and as always the gang at Hunt Investigations. I liked how two people (Molly and Lucas) who both pretty much relied on themselves ended up having to rely on each other and learned to trust again. And of course, the ending with baby Penelope, too cute. Can’t wait for the next book.
