What Happens in Vegas . . . How did a nice girl like Rachel Kline end up in a jail cell in Vegas? Don’t even ask. She came to Sin City to find her missing friend and accidentally got swept up in a police raid. Even worse, she’s being bailed out by the last man she wants to see right now: the irresistibly sexy, infuriatingly cocky Alpha op who rescued her a year ago. What are the odds? Logan … the odds?
Logan Callahan is six-and-a-half feet of solid muscle and Texas charm, a hard-fighting ex-Marine with a soft spot for Rachel. He’s more than obliged to hang up his cowboy hat and help her out. But when someone takes a shot at her, he knows there’s a good chance what happens in Vegas won’t stay there. With targets on their backs and killers on their tails, it’s one high-risk game they’re playing. And it’s not just their hearts that are on the line . .

Hot Target by April Hunt is book Four in the Alpha Security series. This is the story of Rachel Kline and Logan Callahan.
I felt this was easily a standalone book.
Rachel is out looking for her friend in Vegas but she is in danger. Logan had one night with Rachel but he knows that isn’t enough…he wants more. Logan is willing to help find Rachel find her friend and work toward his goal of being more to Rachel.
Quick exciting packed book!
I love the recovery angle and Logan’s heart. Ooh. I never would’ve guessed at this matchup. I’m excited to see Rachel again after book one. Plus I’m excited that serial romancer Callahan is getting his novella. The last of a series. I’m sad that we won’t get to see happy endings for all of the team.

Lee’Anne –
This is a super short novella that is a part of a series but can be read as a standalone. I liked it but didn’t love it – it was just too short to become super invested and I didn’t have a chance to connect with the characters like I would have liked.
Rachel Kline is a school teacher who had a one-night stand with her rescuer, Logan, a member of Alpha Security. Rachel was kidnapped and fed drugs – now almost 2 years later, Logan is bailing Rachel out of jail after she’s been swept up in a local brothel raid while searching for her lost friend. Logan just wants Rachel out of harm’s way but she’s having none of that and insists on helping to locate her lost friend.
I liked that though this is a short read it’s filled with a page-turning amount of drama, action, and romance. I was pulled in enough that I’d definitely like to go back and check out the other books in the series.
Avid Reader –
M/F Thriller Romance
Triggers: Drug addiction – forced
Rachel is a school teacher that somehow gets kidnapped and addicted to a cocktail of drugs against her will. When she is “better,” her friend, Carly needs her help and she doesn’t hesitate to jump in head first.
Then you have the alpha bodyguard who will stop at nothing to show Rachel that he can be what she needs – that he wants her despite all of her past. Logan is definitely the alpha in this story and while he was pushy and somewhat annoying at times, you truly understood that he wanted to keep Rachel safe.
Of the other stories in this series, this is the one that I have liked the least, so far. It was a fast-paced story, but the chemistry between the main characters was just not quite right for me. Also, the strangeness of the story – who was involved and what they were trying to accomplish – felt a little muddy.

3.5 to 4 stars
Hot Target is a fast paced read, and although it can be read as a standalone, I feel that it is best read in order in the series for the best experience.
Rachel’s backstory was introduced in prior books as her sister and the Alpha team rescued her from a horrible situation. Logan was there for her through the aftermath and her long road to recovery, and although he is interested in more with her, he understands she is still very skittish. When she finally gives in to the UST for one hit night, he thinks they are on the same page at long last until he wakes up to find her gone.
What Logan doesn’t know is that Rachel received a cryptic message from her terrified best friend Carly and she took off for Vegas to find out what is going on.
What happens in Vegas doesn’t stay there- it takes a quick detour straight into crazy town! With a police raid on a brothel that snags Rachel, flying bullets and snipers, wedding chapels with Elvis and Priscilla, a fantasy hotel hot tub complete with floating lily pads, and former military operators executing a rescue, there’s a lot packed into this novella but it was a lot of fun for me as a fan of the series. If you are a fan of romantic suspense and alpha males who are not alpha-holes, then you should check out the whole Alpha Security series!
This is the fourth book in the Alpha Security series. I do suggest you read them in order.
Rachel has gone through rehab from the drug that was forced into her while she was in Honduras. But now she finds herself in a Vegas jail because of a brothel raid. She needs to find Carly.
Logan is the cowboy alpha agent with the funny shirts.
I really like both Racehl and Logan.
There were some funny parts, like the condom. There was action as well, also some steamy scenes.
This is a novella, the previous tree are full length.
I received a copy via Netgalley.
Hot Target by April Hunt is book #4 in her Alpha Security series. This book is totally action-packed and I enjoyed following all this action. The story line flowed well and the characters are well-developed. I appreciated how the heroine, Rachel Kline managed to overcome some of her fears in some very difficult situations. That gal has lots of spunk! The hero, Logan Callahan is a tough, dedicated guy with a very pronounced protective streak. I liked seeing this in this hero.
Rachel Hunt is a new to me author. I plan to buy more of her stories since I liked this one.
I voluntarily reviewed this Arc which I obtained from Net Galley for an honest view.
This novella is part of Ms Hunt’s series titled Alpha Security. Though it was entertaining and well developed , I felt I missed a lot due to the fact that I had not read the previous stories on which this one is based.
Still , I was engaged in Logan Callahan’s and Rachel Kline’s story and found both to be likable and complex characters. The storyline moved quickly from Philadelphia, to Vegas in an attempt to help Carly, a dear friend of Rachel’s . They have shared a heartbreaking experience.
The secondary characters, mainly Charlie, were also interesting , albeit the fact that a new reader like me , would be at a lost since everyone has a history that we didn’t know about .
As a well written novella, I give it a 4 star, but personally I would rate it as a 3.5. I would highly recommend new readers to start with book 1 prior to reading this one. I sure wish I had or that it would have been suggested by the author and/or publisher.
I was gifted a copy of this book by Netgalley. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
