wonderful story about the beginning of the tech industry & a woman’s place in a man’s world. great read.
Love all her books!
I love SEP books. This started out before Susanna was born and really told the story of why she was a parent pleaser. All the characters grew with the story. I didn’t like some , but really loved the others. Grab and read, you won’t be sorry.
Every once in a while we all need a light romantic read. Susan Elizabeth Phillips is who I go to a couple times a year for just such a read.
Susan Elizabeth Phillips is my favorite author and i cant get enough .
Susan Elizabeth Phillips always writes an un-put-downable book!
I have read almost every book Susan Elizabeth Phillips has written and have even read some of them twice and she keeps me intrigued every time. Wonderful author!
Very interesting reading about the beginning of the personal computer!
I’ve read this book several times over the years. Just as entertaining this time as it was the first time. Love SEP!
One of my all time favorites. This is the story that led to SEP being one of my favorite authors.
“4.5 out of 5 stars! Okay …. originally this book, in it’s hardcover/paperback formats, was written in 1991 so most of the book is based in the 70’s and 80’s which is when women were just coming into the work force (more so then before) and taking on bigger roles that others might not have been ready for them to do. Plus, this book (based on what the author writes in her ‘author’s note’) is based prominently on fiction, about the IBM’s and Apple’s of that time period (how they all got started — etc.) while set in her non-fiction world. It kept me captivated! In addition, I LOVED the relationship Susannah had with Sam, Yank, & Mitch!! However…”

This book was given to me by a friend who swore it was her favorite romance novel of all time. Although I typically prefer modern-day stories, I decided to read Hot Shot since it came so highly recommended. I thoroughly enjoyed the fast-paced, unpredictable plot. The main character, Susannah Faulconer, was complex and brilliant. It was easy to empathize with her, given her difficult past and her impressive resilience. I found her sister, Paige, much more irritating. Sam and Joel seemed pompous and self-centered, especially in the very beginning of the novel. But even their frustrating/less admirable personality traits made them intriguing; I found myself drawn to the book and curious to see if these characters would change. The twist about three-quarters into the book was deeply satisfying. It confirmed my suspicions about Sam and provided a nice sense of closure. I felt Yank’s character was one-dimensional and perhaps even a bit confusing in the first half of the novel. By the end of the book, however, I really liked him. Overall, I was very impressed by this novel. I love reading about a strong, competent heroine, and Susannah Faulconer definitely met that criteria.
Love this author but this is not one of my favorite books of hers
It took me a while to get into this book but, about 30% in, I finally started to be interested how the characters were going to find their “happily ever after.” There were a few surprises along the way and the endings seemed appropriate for all the characters.
It is an earlier book and sadly not up to the standards she attained after she wrote this.
Great dialogue
The twist to share a ” background” on the laptop market was interesting, but, overall, I did not care for the book.
Although I like her books, I just wonder why she needs to write such sex crazed characters.
Read this book book for the first time many years ago. Re read several times – great book !
Do not go by the title or the cover. Just like other Susan Elizabeth Phillips books, this one is most definitely not chick-lit. I enjoyed it immensely, but the flawed characters were perhaps a little too flawed.
