A former Navy SEAL and current bad boy bar owner learns to trust a free spirit in this steamy novel of unexpected romance from the bestselling author of Body Shot and the Heller Brothers series. Marco Solis knows that if he gets too close to people they disappear. His parents were deported back to Mexico when he was fourteen, his fiancée married someone else while he was in the military, and now … in the military, and now his business partner’s spending more time with his girl than with Marco. For better or worse, that’s how Marco meets Carrie Garner. She’s legitimately model-hot. She’s also a nut—a wild, artsy, unapproachable nut. So why is Marco so interested in cracking her shell?
Although Carrie Garner is a natural in front of the camera, her dream is to make it as a photographer. Soon she’ll be heading to Spain for design school, and she’ll miss her best friend, Hayden, like crazy. She’ll even miss Hayden’s boyfriend, Beck—but she won’t miss Beck’s partner, Marco. Bossy, brooding, and annoyingly sexy, Marco really pushes her buttons, though he obviously wouldn’t mind pushing her buttons in an up-against-the-wall, hard-and-fast kind of way. The craziest part is, if Carrie lets him do that, well . . . she may never want to leave.

Hot Shot is a sexy enemies to lovers romance. Marco Solis is Beck (Body Shot) and Cade’s business partner in Conquistadors, their bar, former Navy SEAL, and has had his eye on Carrie, Hayden’s best friend (Body Shot) ever since he met her. Carrie is a sweet, quirky model whose dream is to become a professional photographer. She’s even gone as far as to accept a scholarship to a photography school in Spain for 9 months. But, while she whiles away her time in San Diego until she leaves, she’s now been tasked by Marco to help him plan Beck and Hayden’s engagement party.
Carrie has mixed feelings about Marco. On one hand, he’s a hot, brooding bad boy who she has always felt as if he looked down on her for being a model. His nickname for her, “Supermodel” doesn’t help matters at all. On the other hand, she’s seriously attracted to the man, and spending so much time with him is getting to her, especially now that she is starting to see a different side to him, one she is having a hard time disliking. He’s actually a total sweetheart, who has lots of abandonment issues. Everyone he’s ever loved has either left him voluntarily, like his former fiancée, who left him while he was deployed and married someone else; or they were forced to leave him, like his parents, who were deported when he was a teenager, his sister who he lost contact with when they were shuttled separately in and out of foster care, and his mentor who sent him down the right path, but was killed when Marco was deployed in Afghanistan. The only people who haven’t left him are his SEAL brothers, Beck and Cade, and even Beck is getting married, so spending less and less time with him. So, Marco shields his pain with brooding scowls and teasing lines that he banters at Carrie, not knowing she has insecurities of her own from her childhood when she and Hayden were the odd misfits at their school. Even becoming a model hasn’t done much to change her insecurities, if anything, it’s made things worse, as she is tired of people only valuing her for her appearance. Especially when she compares herself to her successful, wealthy family, who all have great corporate careers and view her modeling career as less notable than theirs.
These two sweet, loving people with so much hurt inside come together, though, and the sparks fly. But, how can they even begin to start anything if Carrie is set to leave for Spain soon? Well, as Marco puts it: “We have a hot little romp for a few weeks while I teach you Spanish and we throw an engagement part and then you leave for Spain and we say goodbye and everyone’s happy.” Hmm…famous last words because you know things never happen exactly as planned!
I really like this series, Kelly Jamieson never disappoints, whether it’s her hockey series (Aces Hockey) or this one about three former Navy SEAL friends. Hot Shot is sexy, sweet, surprisingly emotional and Carrie and Marco are smokin hot together! Now, I’m impatiently awaiting Cade’s story. Hope it comes soon.
This was a great story about friendship, love, forgiveness and acceptance. Relationships are hard and I felt like the author did a fantastic job weaving a story that navigated the landscapes of many different relationships and how each person’s perspective can reflect differently upon them.
While this book can be read as a standalone, I think you connect more to the characters having read the first book in the series since the main characters, and the principle supporting characters were all in Body Shot.
If you are looking for a book that has great friends, romance, hot sex, a lot of fun and just about everything else than this is one you won’t want to miss.
I would highly recommend this book and I can’t wait for the third one in the series to come out!
Loved it! Review to follow closer to release date. Awesome job Ms. Jamieson! You rock! 4.5 stars!!!!
WOW! Ms. Jamieson is now a must read author for me! Lol… After reading the first book in the series, Body Shot, Hot Shot picks up with Carrie and Marco planning a surprise engagement party for their best friends. In this story, we have the reasons why it seemed that they were not meant for each other but the chemistry was there. Carrie, a supermodel, in the midst of her career ending is about to embark on a trip to Spain to study photography and you have Marco Nave SEAL and bar owner extraordinaire, who is insecure due to his rough upbringing and feeling of abandonment. They both don’t realize that they both want the same thing. Carrie to be given more credit than being beautiful on the outside and Marco safe in the knowledge that he will not be abandoned again. A night out with her friends after a photo shoot, Carrie goes to a club and sees Marco there as well. Fireworks abound!!! They kiss and from that moment on they realize that all the witty comebacks, were a sign of them throwing each other off because of their insecurities. Marco suggests a short ‘romp’ before she leaves for Spain, at first Carrie doesn’t believe it to be a good idea, but she slowly realizes more and more what type of person Marco truly is and gives into the idea of a brief affair before she leaves. The sex is intense and all consuming. So scorching, burn the sheets, hot! Loved it. I freaking the love the way Ms. Jamieson writes. Her characters are all in and focused intensely with each other. I love that . I love how they fall in love and all the secondary characters. There is humor, mixed with true family and friend issues. Loved that these brave SEALS are making a life for themselves after their service to this country. At the end Marco, realizes he cannot let Carrie go without expressing his true feelings. Thank the stars that Carrie realizes her true worth as well. I CANNOT WAIT FOR THE NEXT BOOK!!! I suspect Cade is about to get his comeuppance from a certain server at the Conquistadors…Lol. Great job Ms. Jamieson, kudos to you for another wonderful love story! Thank you.
Marco and Carrie star in this story and they are so much alike it is scary. They are both insecure which is crazy because they are both accomplished in their professions but personally they are goofs. Once they figure out they really do not hate each other and the sparks are really chemistry and the heat should be explored all bets are off and the fun “romp” is on! This was a fun story that at times I wanted to shake these characters up and tell them to open their eyes. At least they figured it out by the end 🙂 Gotta love a HEA!
This could be read as a standalone but I really recommend the first in the series only because it was good too.
