Dealing with a sexy ex-girlfriend, a jewel heist, and a kidnapping can make an ex-SEAL bodyguard a tad cranky. Trevor Mason accepts what should be a simple job…protect the jewels his ex-girlfriend will wear to a breast cancer fundraiser. As founder and owner of Eye Spy International, he should send one of his guys, but he needs to get his ex out of his system and this is the perfect opportunity … the perfect opportunity to remind himself that she is a spoiled, rich debutante who dumped him with a Dear John letter during his SEAL training.
Respected breast cancer doctor Dr. Risa McCool hates being in the limelight for her personal life. Her life’s work is breast cancer treatment and research, which she’d rather be known for than for her carefree, partying debutante years. She agrees to be the chairperson for the annual breast cancer fundraiser even though it means doing publicity appearances and interviews, all while wearing the famous pink Breast Cancer Diamond for each public event. The multi-million dollar value of the pink stone requires an armed bodyguard at all times.
Past attractions flame, proving to be a distraction to the serious reality of the situation.

I love the lovers-to-enemies-to-lovers theme! Reunion romance at its best.
What can be better than a second-chance romance? A second-chance romance with a SEAL and some intrigue. It was fun reading a story set in a world of rich people and a SEAL hired to protect his ex-girlfriend. Their journey to return to each other as adults was not easy and involved danger, but sometimes love does not die regardless of what happened in the past. I plan on reading others in the SEALS in Paradise series.
I won this book in a giveaway. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Repost of my original review on Amazon.com.
This was a wonderful short read in really enjoyed it
Risa is from a wealthy family and a surgeon specializing in cancer research. She has always loved her high school ex, Trevor is an ex-SEAL and now owns his own security company. Trevor loves Risa but coming from a poor family he knows he can never give her anything she could want but she could get it for herself, like this expensive million of dollars worth of diamond made into a breast cancer necklace for a gala. The chemistry is still there but could he ever get over the fact she is so wealthy.
I liked this reverse Billionaire story. I loved Risa. she was sweet, kind and not at all pretentious. She has a golden heart. I liked Trevor and could get where Risa’s standings could cause conflict with an Alpha male.
The story is well written, fast-paced and interesting. I would have liked a bit more drama and suspense on the mystery suspense part because it was pretty predictable and ended quickly but all in all the story was still very good.
If you like Billionaires (though it’s the female in this case) Alpha men, ex-Seals, Bodyguards and hot second chance romance this is right up your alley.
A great read about a missing woman and the pink jewels for breast cancer awareness. Danger and new awareness for the woman he’s starting to care for. HEA
This is such a good book!
I enjoyed reading it from the
first pages to the last.
It’s a engaging & moving story
Risa Trevor, are perfect together.
A wonderful second chance romance.
I loved everything about it!!
An ex-SEAL who just so happens to be your ex-boyfriend is hired to be your bodyguard…oh yea, that comes with all kinds of complications, especially when there is still chemistry. Yep, they went there and those complications and chemistry still exist and when you add in pink diamonds and other over-the-top expensive jewels and don’t forget a stalker you don’t know what is going to happen until you are all dressed up and at the gala. Definitely a perfect read for an afternoon! Sexy and suspense, just right!
I first discovered Cynthia D’Alba through the hot cowboy novels she writes.
Well, you can take the man off the ranch and still write one hell of a great story.
Trevor Mason was Risa McCool’s high school boyfriend. They were not exactly from the same financial status, but back then it wasn’t as big of a deal. It did bug him whenever she offered to pay for things. After graduation he decided he was going to make his own way in the world and joined the navy. It was Risa who broke up with him, determined to follow her own dream.
Years later, she is Doctor Risa McCool, a reknowned surgeon. He is a recently retired Nay Seal, who returned due to his father’s health declining. With a little help from both mothers, the two are partnered again.
Risa also has a twin sister but no one is going to confuse the two.
The characters are well developed, colorful and a lot of fun. The women are strong, intelligent and willful. Risa’s penthouse is eloquently described. The reader feels right there in the middle of all the action.
The flame between our two heroes never went out. It may have been contained but it does not take much to encourage this flame and it burns HOT!
The story is set up to protect diamonds, but danger may come from an unexpected direction.
I didn’t want to set this book down and read it in one enjoyable session.
HOT SEAL, BLACK COFFEE is Cynthia D’Alba’s 8th book of the SEALs In Paradise series. Dealing with a sexy ex-girlfriend, a jewel heist, and a murder-for-hire can make an ex-SEAL bodyguard a tad cranky. HOT SEAL, BLACK COFFEE is a delightful, quick read romance packed with sultry heat and danger. Cynthia D’Alba doesn’t sugar-coated the need breast cancer research, and she doesn’t forget unsung military heroes. I received this complimentary printed copy from the author in exchange for my honest review.
Not giving too many details of Risa and Trevor’s story, Cynthia D’Alba has another hot sexy romantic read on her hands. For Risa and Trevor, what may have been an insurmountable mountain when they were young and in love, looks to be a bit different as maturity has taken place years later. The mountain this time around is more of a hill with a few stumbles along the way to their HEA. A great afternoon page turner, their second chance at love had that aha moment for me. I would like to thank the author for gifting me “Hot SEAL, Black Coffee”. My opinion is my own. This is mine. 4.5 Stars!
This is a great book with a wonderful story and well developed characters. The story flowed very well and was very enjoyable. This book will keep you reading long into the night and you will not want to put this book down until you finish. This was such a great read and full of surprises. I am looking forward to reading other books by this great author.
Wow, just wow. I have to tell you that this book, Hot SEAL, Black Coffee was absolutely great. This book looks at the second chance that Trevor and Risa are given to rekindle their love for each other. I am a very big fan of romantic suspense novels, especially when military men are involved, and this book filled my niche perfectly. I would highly recommend this book, it is quick paced and a fun read. I can’t wait to read more from this series.
Great second chance romance read. Trevor and Risa meet again after a fifteen year separation. She is now a doctor and he has retired from the SEALS and has his on EyeSpy business.
Risa has hired EyeSpy International to provide additional security for the Breast Cancer Gala. At the event she will be showcasing a necklace containing the Breast Cancer Diamond, a fourteen carat gem worth a small fortune. For her bodyguard she would have Trevor Mason, the owner and founder of the company and the man she gave up fifteen years ago.
Trevor wouldn’t assign anyone but himself to guard Dr. Risa McCool. They had been friends then lovers years ago before he joined the Navy and became a SEAL.
Arriving home late, with Trevor already in her condo there is more than a little snark from both of them.
I really liked Wendy, Risa’s twin sister. Where as Risa is more reserved, Wendy is an almost overwhelming personality.
I was like Risa in that I didn’t think she and Trevor would overcome the hurdle of their history. The sparks were flying all over the place, I’m surprised folks didn’t get burned when they got close to each other.
Nothing is ever easy and there are plenty of twists, turns, suspense and drama in this book along with that sizzling heat. I couldn’t put this book down.
Trevor and Risa loved each other once but thought because of time and distance they could work together and not have old feelings get in the way.
I loved these two characters. They both were very likable. The reason for their breakup 15 years ago just had to do with distance and maturity. Now they see each other again, the same people but yet different. The attraction and chemistry is still there, they just don’t know if the issues that plagued them as college students would be the same as adults.
I loved how these two were both successful people who loved their job. They took what they did for a living very seriously. Risa sounds like an amazing woman and is doing wonderful things for cancer research.
There was one part that made me a little angry, it had to do with the notes Risa was getting and the fact she didn’t share this information.
I would highly recommend this book!
Hot SEAL, Black Coffee is a quick, lighthearted read with charming characters and an engaging storyline packed with excitement, suspense, and second chance romance. D’Alba does a wonderful job creating a cast of characters that are likeable and down to earth with a plot you could clearly see happening in real life. Though this book is part of a series, it can be read as a stand-alone.
Risa and Trevor were high school and college sweethearts who thought they were destined to be together. However, Risa comes from wealth and privilege while Trevor struggled to just get by. Her wealth was always a problem for him that she did not understand and the lack of understanding and differences pushed them apart. Risa went on her way to become a doctor while Trevor found himself in the Navy SEALS both never far from the other’s thoughts over the years. When Trevor comes home to start his security business, a fateful intervention, by way of his mother, lands him on Risa’s radar when she needs some security for a high profile gala event for her foundation where she will be wearing family heirlooms worth millions. After a tense reunion, shared memories and buried feelings are explored and an old flame is ignited. Aside from the explosive chemistry that still links them together they realize that with the other, they finally feel whole. Determined to fix their past and have the future they denied themselves, a shocking turn of events creeps out of the shadows that no one saw coming and suddenly their future happiness is on the line. Will Trevor and Risa be able to have their future together or will it slip from their grasps once and for all?
*I voluntarily read and reviewed a copy of this book. The thoughts and opinions expressed are completely my own.
I’ll take a hot coffee like this anytime! Trevor is all sorts of hot. And what a better way to prove it than to have to protect his flame from the past, Dr. McCool. There were some points where it was like, come one Risa, really? But she gets a bit of a pass for being head over heels for Trevor. What a great suspense, a fabulous awareness cause and an enjoyable story to read.
