“The enjoyable latest installment of Stacey’s contemporary Boston Fire series (after Fully Ignited) combines blazing passion and a certain sweetness.” –Publisher’s Weekly “Stacey has knocked this one out of the park! Hot Response is amazing right from the beginning. The tension between Gavin and Cait is sizzling.” – RT Reviews (TOP PICK) on Hot Response From New York Times bestselling … From New York Times bestselling author SHANNON STACEY
Meet the tough, dedicated men of BOSTON FIRE–and the women who turn their lives upside down
Gavin Boudreau lives for the job, but he also believes in “work hard, play harder.” As the youngest guy in Ladder 37, he figures he’s got plenty of time before settling down becomes a priority. Soft, pretty women who aren’t looking for promises are exactly his type, and he’s comfortable with that. Working with a gorgeous EMT isn’t going to change who he is.
The last thing Cait Tasker needs in her personal life is a firefighter whose challenges on-scene have been a thorn in her side from minute one. Her plate’s too full for a man anyway. Back in her childhood home to help her family cope with an unexpected tragedy, she’s got enough to handle without throwing a hot, testosterone-laden fireman into the mix.
As long days on the job lead to long nights together, Gavin and Cait will discover how far temptation can take them–and what happens when the one you thought was all wrong for you turns out to be the person you can’t live without.

3.5 bumped to 4 stars. Hot Response is #4 in the Boston Fire series. I’ve been away from this neighborhood for a while. It was good to get back to the firefighters of Ladder 37/Engine 59. It’s always fun to visit Kincaid’s Pub, too!
Cait and Gavin often run into one another on scene and for some reason have always rubbed one another the wrong way. Gavin can’t really figure it out and he’s not really going to dwell on it. Cait was offended over one little “ma’am” and can’t get over it. Circumstances have been placing them on the same calls lately and the attraction isn’t going away for either one of them. The fun begins when they finally decide to stop fighting the attraction and step out on that first date.
Hot Response is another great addition to the Boston Fire series. It brings home how tight-knit firefighters and EMTs are, the dangers they face, and the special people they are.
I have loved the entire Boston Fire series and have already pre-ordered the next book. Start at the beginning of the series if you want…
HOT RESPONSE is the fourth instalment in Shannon Stacey’s contemporary, adult BOSTON FIRE erotic, romance series focusing on Boston’s first responders. This is fire fighter Gavin Boudreau, and EMT Cait Tasker’s story line. HOT RESPONSE can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story line is revealed where necessary.
Told from dual third person perspectives (Gavin and Cait) HOT RESPONSE follows the acrimonious relationship between fire fighter Gavin Boudreau, and EMT Cait Tasker. For some unknown reason Gavin, and his fellow fire fighters at Ladder 37, got the distinct impression that he had done something wrong to EMT Cait Tasker. With her angry demeanour and less than friendly attitude Cait gives off a persona of don’t touch, don’t talk, don’t ever look my way. A chance meeting at the local first responders watering hole meant Gavin had the opportunity to uncover the who and why of Cait’s acerbic attitude. What ensues is the slow building romance between Cait and Gavin, and the potential fall-out as Cait is unable to break free from the family responsibilities she has placed upon herself.
Cait Tasker moved back home to help support her grieving mother and embittered teenage brother in the wake of her step-father’s death but Cait’s overwhelming home-life is affecting her attitude towards the man with whom she will fall in love. Gavin Boudreau struggles with Cait’s co-dependency and need to jump every time her family calls but letting her know how he feels will build a wall between our leading couple, a wall that continues to grow until Cait’s mother opens her eyes and sees how the drama has been affecting her children.
The relationship between Cait and Gavin is one of immediate attraction but Cait’s reaction and apparent hatred of Gavin Boudreau is questionable and without merit. Gavin is a sweetheart, whose patience with our story line heroine begins to falter with Cait’s inability to cut the chord. The $ex scenes are intimate and seductive without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.
Most of the previous story line couples play secondary and supporting characters including Lydia and Aidan (Heat Exchange #1), Rick Gullotti (Controlled Burn #2), Jamie and Scott (Fully Ignited #3), as well as single father Derek Gilman. Derek’s story line is next in Under Control (August 2018).
HOT RESPONSE is a sexy and sassy story line. The premise is entertaining, engaging and encouraging; the romance is tender and provocative; the characters are energetic and real.
a perfect read if you love reading about firefighters!
This was my first Shannon Stacey & Boston Fire series book and it was on fire and I definitely want to read more of this authors books! Definitely want lots more of the firemen in the Boston Fire series!! Hot Response is Gavin & Cait’s hot response to each other once Cait worked out her own issue with regards to Gavin & after a particularly difficult call they both were on. Even though Cait had her family issues & Gavin was so young, the youngest member in Ladder 37, so neither was looking for a relationship but once their spark ignighted the fire blazed on and there would be nothing to stop the chemistry & steam between these two! Well written storyline and plot with well developed main & secondary characters. Gotta love all those hot & sexy firemen in Ladder 37, can’t wait for Under Control & Flare Up! Recommend one-clicking this amazing 4.5-Star full length read Hot Response!!
Firefighter Gavin Boudreau and EMT Cait Tasker often find themselves on scene together and the encounters are a bit prickly. He has no idea what he did to get on her wrong side and his buddies at the station give him no end of grief. When they finally resolve that issue, what’s left is the potential of a promising relationship.
This was an easy story where we see two people tentatively beginning a relationship, careful with each other as they get to know one another. The main conflict is Cait’s family whose need caused her to return home to help her recently widowed mother cope with her grief while dealing with a teenaged half brother. I enjoyed how the two of them took the time to forge a meaningful relationship and how the conflicts weren’t overblown. There’s not a lot of drama (thankfully), just two mature people coping with life’s challenges. I also liked seeing the realities of their work life, the lows and the highs and their emotional impacts.
I’m still enjoying this series and particularly this story. The focus on family, work lives of firefighters and emergency response teams and the people supporting them is what interests me most. It’s what I was looking for in choosing the series and it continues to deliver. It’s a good story with characters I not only liked but admired. The narrator also was ideal for the story and I really liked her decisions about how to define the characters. Highly recommend the audio format.
Gavin and Cait have a cute story.
Gavin is a fireman (my favorite) and Cait is an EMT. They didn’t start out on the best foot with each tiger but as time goes, they both start to develop feeling for the other. The problem is Cait has a lot of family baggage and she isn’t in the place she needs to be to move on with her life.
Will Gavin wait for her or will it be too much?
This was a sweet story. I’m ready for the next one.
Really enjoyed Gavin and Cait’s story.
½
An adult romance between one of Boston’s handsome firemen this series is known for and a hardworking EMT with a complicated home life. Easy to read and sexy, it’ll help you make the most of a rainy afternoon.
4 Stars
Hot Response is the fourth title int he Boston Fire series, but was my first time reading Shannon Stacey’s work and I wasn’t dissapointed.
I quite enjoyed Cait and Gavin’s story. Cait, is a loyal, compassioante and a care giver by nature. She works in a profession where she is often surrounded by males, and is not afraid to stand up for herself, and give as good as she gets. She has a very hectic, busy life and struggles with letting others in and giving up control.
Gavin is not afraid to admit he likes women, he’s charasmatic, fun and cheeky. But there’s more to this sexy firefighter than a womaniser, he’s thoughtful, loving, considerate and will do anything for those he cares for most.
If you like a sweet, emotional contemporary romance with endearing, and relateable characters then Hot Response may just be the title for you. I look forward to reading more of Shannon’s work in the future.
#netgalley #hotrepsonse #bostonfire #shannonstacey I loved Gavin and Cait’s story. I laughed several times and truly enjoyed this story. I always enjoy Shannon Stacey’s stories. I was touched by the mention of mental illness and showed how it can affect the whole family. Thanks Shannon Stacey for that.
Prepare to feel the burn. Stacey ignites the pages with a HOT firefighter and a fiery EMT. Lust runs rampart with this scorching duo. However, there’s more to the attraction than hormone overload. There’s heartbreaking tragedy, dangerous scenarios and a chance at emotional maturity. The sizzle is abundantly obvious, but the emotions run deep.
Gavin may be the youngest guy on the squad, but he is far from a baby or irresponsible. Sure, he likes to have fun and may occasionally take joking a little too far in his desire to lighten the mood, but he was raised to be a gentleman and to have respect. When he showed that respect by calling Cait “ma’am” one day, she took offense to it thinking he saw her as old. Rather than calling him on it, she decided to stew on it and nurse a completely uncalled- for grudge against him.
Cait is definitely one tough cookie to crumble. She has a lot on her plate right now between the things she sees on the job every day and her very needy mother and little brother, but she is an independent woman and she can handle anything on her own… in her mind. She shouldn’t let Gavin get under her skin as much as he does, but it galls her that she finally worked up the nerve to ask him out and then he called her ma’am which put her off. The responsibility of taking care of her mom who was on the verge of depression after the death of Cait’s stepfather and dealing with the teenage attitude of her 16 year old brother is bad enough without being reminded that she barely has time to sleep, much less date.
Most of the time, I actually felt bad for Gavin as I was reading this story. He is undoubtedly sexy with a cocky smile that can get ladies to drop ’em in seconds, but he is also a genuinely good guy with a great heart who is dedicated to any and all that he loves. He is a bit clueless when it comes to an actual relationship but he gives it his best effort despite putting his foot in his mouth a few more times along the way. Once Cait finally lets down her guard to let him into her life a little bit, things get interesting- and steamy- but letting him into heart completely gives him too much power to hurt her. He has his work cut out for him if they stand any chance at a future.
As you can probably tell from my comments, I had a difficult time liking Cait. Fortunately I loved Gavin and the rest of the Boston Fire crew. They are one big family, and as much as may love to tease each other and joke around, they also all come together in support of each other especially after a really tough day on the job. I am enjoying this series so far, and I am looking forward to finding out more about Gavin’s best friend and teammate Grant’s seemingly challenging love life in the future!

M/F Romance
Triggers: Loss
Gavin is a successful firefighter who is newer to his company. He takes his job seriously, but also knows how to let loose and have a great time. He has always liked to push the local ambulance EMT, Cait’s buttons. He doesn’t know why he likes it or why she’s so easy to tease. However, when things get serious, Gavin makes a concerted effort to make sure that everyone around him is safe and healthy.
Cait is a serious EMT. She has a family that she is making sure stays as put together as it can. Her mom and younger brother are having difficulty adjusting to a family death and Cait is there to help them through. However, with her job and her family, that leaves little time for a personal life. Despite her attraction to the annoying firefighter, Gavin, Cait can’t really do much about it.
When Cait and Gavin decide that their friendship is worth it, to see what might be if they give themselves a chance, both parties will need to make sacrifices and concessions. Cait will need to decide if her personal life can overcome her work and family life and Gavin has to decide how hard he’ll push to have his personal life exceed what he’s expected.
This is a story about loss, love, friendship, and finding the right balance between work and family. These characters have great chemistry and banter. I really enjoyed watching their relationship and their own personal struggles develop and find a resolution.
I have not read the previous books in this series and didn’t ever feel that I was missing anything.

I love this series! Can’t get enough of these sexy Boston Firefighters! Gavin is just……well he’s amazing! It took me 2.5 seconds to fall in love with him! And I really like Cait for him, they are perfect for each other. Maybe it’s because she’s an EMT so she understands why he does what he does and no apologies for long shifts or dangerous work are necessary. They can just be themselves with each other and their chemistry is through the roof. Their ease with each other and hers with the other crazy guys in the house is awesome. I admire how Gavin steps in to help out with Cait’s younger brother and how he tries to help her with family stuff as well. Unfortunately that does cause some ill-ease between them for a bit. Thankfully they work everything out for a sweet HEA. Can’t wait for more!!!!!
A genuinely real and emotional romance story that touched my heart. The characters are not only likable, they are relatable, they are solid, deeply feeling, kind and considerate people I loved hanging around with.
The world the author has created is so down-to-earth realistic, that it could be the fire station around the corner from my house.
The relationships in the firehouse, the teamwork, the camaraderie, is a warm, caring, competitive (in a positive way) place where people are comfortable and enjoy working in, and that atmosphere of positivity in face of challenges and exultations of life is transferred to the pages of the story.
Gavin Boudreau and Cait Tasker have a sizzling, tangible chemistry between them. They balance each other, they match, they bring stability to each of their hearts and thus are perfect for each other, it is like coming home when they are in each other’s arms. They have a lot in common with their jobs in the service. The way they love their families and set them above anything else, their generous and kind hearts, their professionalism sets them apart. No, they are not perfect, they are struggling just like any one of us, they have challenges, they have stubborn streak, they have room to learn and grow and develop as people, and I think that is what made it so easy to love them, to care for them, and to admire them, because they truly were so real, true-to-life, honest people with everyday challenges, triumphs, and joys.
Shannon Stacey is one of my favorite authors, I have devoured every book of hers that I have gotten into my hands, and loved them. She writes from her heart and it shows. The characters feel like dear friends and the world they live in like my old neighborhood. I savored every word of the story, wanting to linger in that creation the author had drawn with her words.
The tough choices and sacrifices Cait has made for her family touched my heart, the struggles Gavin and Cait have with building their relationship were heartfelt and true. The danger the first responders face, the fear of possible peril the firefighters might experience was palpable, even brought me to tears at times. But mostly Hot Response made me smile, laugh, sigh, and fan my face while blushing cause the kitchen is not for just dancing anymore…
An absolutely fantastic story, and series, that I can highly recommend
~ Five Spoons!
Hot Response by Shannon Stacey is book four in the Boston Fire. This is the story of Gavin Boudreau and Cait Tasker. I haven’t yet read the previous books so for me this was easily a standalone book.
Gavin does love the ladies just not the commitment and hasn’t found a issue with that yet. But being around Cait is starting to change that. Cati is dealing with a family tragedy that has her taking care of her family and trying to do work too. Feeling she doesn’t have time for a relationship but and for sure not with Gavin…but things change.
Misunderstanding started off this relationship I would say, but once things were worked out love came.
Ma’am? How did a term of respect become an insult? How did it become a sign of a woman getting older? I had to laugh at Cait’s reaction to Gavin calling her ma’am because I’ve had the same reaction! I’m not that old!! (Actually I am but I don’t want to think about it!)
What a great start to an entertaining relationship! Both Gavin & Cait had misperceptions of the others that colored how they looked at & how they related to each other. They both fought the chemistry that was apparent to everyone because they didn’t believe in the other. This was a wonderful journey detailing the day to day build up of a lasting relationship & the problems encountered along the way. I can’t wait for the next in the series!
Hot Response by Shannon Stacey is a fantastic contemporary romance. Ms. Stacey has provided us with a well-written book and filled it with outstanding, lovable characters. Cait is EMS and Gavin is a firefighter. Gavin is interested in Cait but she has family issues and doesn’t have time for romance. Their story is loaded with drama, action, humor and sizzle. I totally enjoyed reading Hot Response and look forward to reading more from Shannon Stacey in the future. Hot Response is book 4 of the Boston Fire Series but can easily be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book that I received from NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
