I really enjoyed this book. Christian is British and the author does a good job of letting it be known but not a distraction. Emily pushed my buttons sometimes but i loved her for it. Better that than someone unbelievable.
The action in these books and the overarching plot picks up speed here and in the next book, so if you weren’t invested before you will be now. You also get to spend time with characters who haven’t really featured a lot which is nice.
Former SAS officer Christian Watson has left his life in England behind with no desire to return to the scene of his disgrace. Emily Scott found out the hard way not to mix business with pleasure when she lost her job with the CIA. Now BKI operatives Christian and Emily are caught up in a mission that has thrown some serious curves, but it is their hair trigger attraction that just might be the very thing that puts not only their lives but also their hearts at risk.
In book eleven of the Black Knights Inc. series, Hot Pursuit, the feel felt as fresh as book one! This author could not have devised a better character then Christian Watson to carry the weight of hero on his shoulders. With a complex and difficult past Christian was still true to the traits of being a man of honor. Ms. Walker pretty much insured no reader could walk away from Christian without a hardcore book crush. This guy had appeal from every conceivable angle and then some. His joking pretty boy demeanor masked so many emotional scars that his falling in love with Emily was proof of the extreme and powerful degree of passion he held for her. Not to be outdone Emily Scott’s tough girl persona hid a surprisingly sweet and caring heroine who did not know her own worth. The magnitude of Emily’s reluctance to enter relationships based on her upbringing was a hurdle that few heroes would attempt, forget about being successful at, but then they were not Christian. When this pair finally connected it was like the whole work fell together because in the larger scheme of things a wrong was righted. A great match!
Julie Ann Walker let loose some fantastic heated banter in Hot Pursuit. Between the fast paced suspense and the raging maelstrom of hormone soup stirring up this work by the cast Walker left no heart unturned. Every person in this book was perfectly played and added to the story. This writer did a phenomenal job of maintaining a tense sexual current between her lead couple even while moving her espionage plot at a furious speed. Hot Pursuit had no lag and while full of author’s trademark wit she was able to bring about some extremely thoughtful and poignant moments without diminishing them with her humor. What really added a nice touch to this story were the scenes that showed not only the leads frustration stemming from their attraction but their friends, as the saying goes it takes a village. Memorable, action packed and not to be ignored Hot Pursuit is just that good!
*I was given an advanced copy. All opinions expressed are my own.
*While this book can be read as a stand alone readers over all experience would be enhanced by reading the previous books in the series.*
OK – Christian is my new favorite BKI guy! He is such a great character with his posh British exterior covering up his down and dirty dominant ways in the bedroom. Even though Emily could be a bit annoying at times with all of her ‘hood girl’ act, she is a brillant compliment for Christian. The other characters in the group for this book are getting more developed and a bit of their stories unfold. There’s finally a small kink in Angel’s armor. Rusty and Ace are passionate with their beliefs and convictions that your heart aches for them and long for them to find peace.
Once again the drama and suspense of this BKI novel is outstanding. You hold your breath waiting to find out if the group will finally get out of England and back to Chicago. The writing is superb, the characters excellent, and the plot exciting and gripping. The mission to find out the identity of the criminal known as Spider intensifies as the Black Knights, Inc. deadline closes in on them. It’s heart-pounding good!
Love this story. Again an action-packed story with some a hunky hero and feistyy heroine. I love all the book in this series.
I love this book! I love this series! I love this author!
You can not go wrong with a Julie Ann Walker book. This series should be read in order.
The interaction between Christian and Emily is always entertaining, but watching them finally give in to love they have been denying is soooo satisfying. I laughed and I cried, and I loved every word.
Do yourself a favor, start this series today! And in a week, when you finally come up for air you can send me a thank you.
I enjoyed the entire series.
I have enjoyed this entire series!
This whole series is just fabulous. The characters are so real, and they STAY in character… I’ve enjoyed every book and the world that has been built around BKI.
Super fun read; a sassy mouthy heroine and an equally quick hero in a fast moving action packed story.
I loved it and how the ongoing plot line continued to develop through this book.
I enjoy the 2 main characters and watching their relationship evolve. I’m not against others actions, but am heterosexual and prefer all my characters to be the same. Had I know that wasn’t the case in this book, I probably wouldn’t have read it.
I just loved Christian’s story. It fit in with what we new from previous books. The banter was funny, witty and creative. I suggest reading from the beginning to get the full affect.
Happy Reading!
Another good Black Knights Inc from Walker. Filling in the history of those oh-so-delicious men. I like that she gets the military parts accurate, doesn’t pull her punches.
4.25 stars–HOT PURSUIT is the eleventh installment in Julie Ann Walker’s contemporary, adult BLACK KNIGHTS INC romantic suspense /military, action series focusing on an elite group of ex Navy SEALS, FBI, CIA and military heroes headquartered at a custom motorcycle shop in Chicago known as Black Knights Inc. The men and women of Black Knights Inc. are so far under the radar that they are blacker than Black Ops. This is former British SAS agent Christian Watson, and former CIA employee Emily Scott. HOT PURSUIT can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary. Both Christian and Emily were introduced in earlier installments.
Told from several third person perspectives including Christian and Emily HOT PURSUIT picks up immediately upon the events of book ten FUEL FOR FIRE, and follows Christian, Emily, Jamin ‘Angel’ Agassi, former Navy pilot Colby Ventura, and former CIA operative Rusty Parker through Europe as they continue their search for the mysterious and elusive ‘Spider’ whose illegal business operations and ties have endangered the BKI team members both in Europe and back home. As the group endeavors to stay off the radar, the team becomes embroiled in a personal vendetta against one of their own. What ensues is the struggle to stay one step ahead of someone gunning for our story line hero; and the building but acrimonious relationship between Christian and Emily.
Emily and Christian have been dancing around one another for a sometime but our heroine is reluctant to get involved with Christian Watson. Christian’s past is darkened by memories of an abusive childhood, as well as time spent as a prisoner of war where he faced torture, and threats from his captors. Emily’s childhood and her parent’s numerous marriages have become the barometer against which she bases all of her own relationships and interactions, a barometer that refuses to allow our heroine to fall in love. Christian is a sexy, tattooed, and brooding well-dressed Brit who pushes all of Emily’s buttons- buttons she pushes back against Christian in return. The $ex scenes are limited, seductive and intense without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.
There is a building story line and relationship between Colby Ventura and Rusty Parker. Both men are attracted to one another but Rusty has yet to come out of the proverbial closet and in this Colby struggles with his attraction to a man who is unwilling to admit the truth. A history of love and loss forces Colby to reveal the how and why of his battle with the man to whom he is attracted but Rusty’s reasons are in direct conflict to Colby’s previous loss.
There is a large ensemble cast of secondary and supporting characters including Angel, Colby and Rusty; police officers and brothers Ben and Lawrence Michelson, as well as several members of the BKI Team-Samantha Tate and Ozzie Sykes, Mac and Delilah McMillan, Penni (Dan) Currington, and Frank ‘Boss’ Knight and his wife Becky.
The world building continues to follow the latest assignment as the BKI Team in Europe searches for a dangerous businessman and possible killer.
HOT PURSUIT is a story of friendship and love; heartbreak and painful memories; revelations, the truth, intrigue, betrayal and revenge. The premise is exciting and entertaining; the characters are colorful, charismatic and dynamic-there is plenty of sexually charged back and forth banter; the romance is provocative. The story line involving the person known as ‘Spider’ was virtually non-existent but new revelations and information reveal a possible connection to one of the BKI heroes. Julie Ann Walker’s BLACK KNIGHTS INC. is an addicting series with great character interactions that humanize the heroes and heroines we love to follow.
We have watched in the last few books how Emily and Christian snipe, tease, and just generally pick at each other like adolescents. And we have all waited with baited breathe for them to finally realize exactly what they mean to each other. And boy did this book not only bring their story to a beautiful end but it also explained exactly why they are both the way they are! Emily is the former CIA agent who now works for BKI as basically an office manager. She handles everything that needs to be handled along with the people that live and work there. Christian is a former SAS agent who now works for BKI but no one really knows how or why he came to be there. Or even why he wasn’t with the SAS any longer let alone in England.
I always loved their interactions and this book just brought home even more how much I loved them together. Even after everything that happened to them both in their childhoods they still manage to be somewhat well adjusted adults-even if they both do have issues they need to work through. Who really doesn’t though? I love how Christian is towards the end with Emily, trying to make her realize just how much they love each other. It was perfect for them!!
I also really love how Ms. Walker brings to light everything going on with Ace and Rusty. I am really hopeful that they get their own book, or at least a HEA! I think Ace deserves it, especially after everything that is revealed in this book! And then you throw in the stuff with Angel, especially towards the end?? I really cannot wait for his book!!! He is such a mystery and I can’t wait to read about all his secrets!
All in all, this book was great! It was not only a great story with great characters, but it added to the overall story ARC that has been building about Spyder! But then you can never go wrong with any book by Julie Ann Walker! I can’t wait for the next one!
Page turning, pulse pounding, brilliant, witty and action packed. I absolutely loved everything about this book. All of Christian’s British sayings were delightful and his and Emily’s banter helped relieve some of the tension.
Christian Watson, a former SAS officer and current BKI operator, never thought he would return to England after a terrible turn of events forced him to abandon his homeland.
Emily lost her coveted job at the CIA because of a colleague turned rogue, and now she has just one rule when it comes to men: they’re for recreational purposes only.
We’ve gotten glimpses of these two butting heads and it is funny. The “proper” British guy being ragged on by the Blue Collar Chicago tough girl. Christian has fascinated me from BKI book one. He is so different from the other guys in some aspects but is just as capable of being a badass when needed. Emily, a recent addition to the group, has fast become one of my favorite characters. The chemistry between them is obvious to everyone but them. As one of their colleagues thought ‘a dash of longing mixed with a dollop of lust sprinkled atop a near-nuclear pile of need’.
On the run from a recent op that didn’t go well the team is confronted with Christian’s past in a way no one saw coming. Just when they think they are home free a new threat emerges.
Christian is English and was a SAS, Special Air Service. He is handsome, funny, and had a rough childhood. He was captured by Iraqi police officers and tortured. He was thrown under the bus when a shootout occurs and several are killed.
Emily is the office manager at BKI. She is witty, pretty, and independent. She doesn’t believe in love because of her family. She grew up in Chicago and acts tough but is still a little girl wanting to loved on the inside.
Someone has leaked Christian’s name to the press and they are camped out in front of the little cottage they are staying in. They must somehow get to the airport where a pilot is waiting to take them home but someone is chasing them and catches them at the hangar. They hide in a old house turned into a museum. Christian decides to make his move on Emily when he, Emily, Angel, Ace and Rusty get stuck in the manor. She agrees but just as long as Christian doesn’t fall in love with her. She doesn’t want to lose the family she has at BKI.
Can two people who constantly bicker keep their relationship on a friends with benefits only? Will Christian wear her down and get her to admit her feelings? Or will he lose the only woman he has ever said ‘ I love you’ to? Funny, sexy, and fast paced. I laughed and wanted to cry for them both.
