What do you do when the whole world has seen you getting down and dirty in a broom closet?I, Elle Evans, am on the run.Not from the fuzz—although that would be more exciting. No, I’m on the run from the four-year-old private tape that, thanks to my vengeful ex, has probably already ruined my vlogging career. There’s nothing like the entire world knowing what you look like mid-O.Creek Keys, Florida, … mid-O.
Creek Keys, Florida, is a million miles away from NYC and the perfect place for me to hide for the rest of summer until I can figure out what I’m going to do.
Something that’s easier said than done since my new landlord’s daughter thinks you’re God’s greatest gift. Even better? Their beach house is right next to the one I’m renting, so there’s no getting away from her—or her hot, British dad.
Who most definitely does not think I’m role model material.
He might be right.
The problem is that neither of us can say no to her.
Or each other.

What a entertaining and quick read from Emma once again. I loved this one and the story of Elle and Theo. What an eventful read this was. The characters again in this book were perfect as always. Emma has a way with her words and sucking you into the story that you don’t want it to end and this was not exception. Another must read for me!
Another winner from Emma Hart!
Hot Mess was such a fun read. I really enjoyed reading about Elle’s chaotic life! This was my first read from this author, and I can’t wait to devour more of her books!
Loving this storyline! Elle is running away from all her problems after her ex-boyfriend sells a tape of her that she didn’t even know existed. Priding herself on her ethics and ability to be a role model to her devoted followers, she drives until she finds herself in a small Florida town with nowhere to stay. In enters Theo, a single dad whose daughter is obsessed with Elle, but he definitely judges her based on what the press is saying. Agreeing to let her stay in his rental for a week, but visibly not happy about it, but thanks to the meddling town, allows her to stay. Within that week, Theo and Elle start to get to know each other, and Elle confides in him the reality of her situation while also providing teaching moments to his daughter about the reality of the internet and social media stars. As things get sorted with Elle’s public and private lives, the chemistry and feelings continue to grow between her and Theo, and thankfully they get the HEA that they need! Loved this read from Emma (per usual) and can’t wait until the next one!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
Emma Hart has written another fabulous romcom with Hot Mess and I was laughing and smiling the whole way through! As with many of her novels, these books are a breeze to read and it’s not hard to read them in one sitting. Not only that, most will WANT to read it in one sitting because of their enjoyment for the story (this is what happened to me). Hot Mess is a romcom about a woman on the run and her sexy, single dad neighbor. There are a lot of laugh out loud moments, but Emma serves up the emotions too! They’re not enough to get you down, but enough to make the characters feel realistic! I loved it! If you need a good laugh and are looking for a light and fun read you won’t want to miss this one
Hot Mess was a fun romantic comedy. It was pretty much everything I’ve come to enjoy about Emma Hart’s writing.
What I loved:
What Elle learned from the situation she was in and how it changed her.
What Elle taught Ari about online personas.
Elle and Theo’s relationship was sweet.
Theo and Ari’s relationship.
All of the people from the town.
Dislikes:
Nothing really. I do have to say it was missing some sort of spark for me that I normally get from Hart’s romances. Not sure what it was.
Overall, Hot Mess was a great romance to escape into.
We have those days where we feel like a hot mess. Elle just had her world implode and ran far away…….right to Theo Is a smexy single dad with an adorable daughter in paradise. Together they find life on an even keel!
This is a very cute and amusing story. Really charming! You have a very clever little girl. Some crazy old ladies. A hot, attentive, caring man. And a genuine but clumsy, simple lady. The book felt very realistic because it doesn’t feel rushed. Elle has to deal with her reputation and privacy being violated, and she has to do it the proper way so that there are no loose ends. Also, with the help of her support system, she takes charge and addresses the issue head on, making sure that she can do her part on preventing innocent girls from having the same experience. So I admire not only her character but the author for touching on the subject. And then on the other end, Theo is also the complete representation of doing things the proper way and taking things slow. He is the definition of a great dad. One that won’t risk his daughter getting hurt in the process of him exploring an interest in Elle. So…he basically has you swooning, even when he is grumpy.
Hot Mess by Emma Hart is a standalone contemporary romance. Well-written and fast paced, told in dual POV between the YouTube famous Elle Evans and the small beachside landlord / neighbor / hot single dad / fit Brit, Theo Dalton.
Elle abandons her home in New York and escapes to the Florida Keys. With her Social standing up in the air due to the revenge porn video that got posted of her and her ex, she is all about keeping a low-profile and licking her wounds while recouping and coming up with a game plan on how to move forward, with her life, with her Online persona, and just in general. Low-key goes out the window though, when she makes a stop in the small town of Creek Keys, Florida, she immediately runs into a 9 year old superfan and her not so friendly father.
Theo is a wonderful dad and is careful about what his daughter has access to online so when they run into Elle at their very local diner, he is hesitant to have his daughter interact with someone who just had a sex-tape released. However, he soon comes to realize he was very quick to judge and did so wrongly. Elle is everything he has ever wanted in a woman and never even knew.
A sweet and sassy read with a slow-build and a good resolution, plus a very brief cameo from Noelle Bond, P.I. I thoroughly enjoyed the book, the writing flowed smoothly and it was a great, fun, easy read. Enjoy!
Hot Mess by Emma Hart is another quirky, irresistible fun read. I devoured each word in one sitting.
Elle Evans is trying to hide from her life, but when it’s a video gone viral how easy can that be?
Theo is a single dad to precocious Ariella, and boy does he have his hands full, lol.
Ari is beyond excited to meet Elle, and then have her stay next door.
She wants her idol to stay in town and is helped by the friendly diner waitress that served Elle her first day in Creeks Key.
Love, laughter, a spirited tweener, and a couple of elderly match-makers are set to make this a happy ever after for the two unlikely protagonists.
Elle and Theo had plenty of chemistry, sassy banter. It was a fun, steamy read, with lovable characters and a story that made me smile.
I received this free eARC novel from the author. This is my honest review.
This was such a fun, quick read, but about a very serious topic. Elle really handled her situation well, if you ask me. She went off the grid and collected her rights without making any rash decision. Though not telling anyone where she went was maybe not the best decision, truthfully.
I loved seeing Elle, a person who’s life is completely online, go to a town where she didn’t do any interaction with the online world. So many people in today’s culture are stuck online. They don’t know how to go outside and live for the moment, rather than live for the next YouTube video. So this was a refreshing story along those lines!
I think Theo’s character is full of greatness. A British, single dad, living in the South… you can’t get any wider than that! But he’s a great guy and a fantastic dad. He was a heel to Elle at the beginning but he was protecting his daughter, so how can you blame him?
I loved Blaire, and Charity and the 3 old women – seriously they cracked me up so much throughout this novel! It added much needed comedy throughout this very deep, serious topic.
I also really appreciated how Theo and Elle didn’t automatically jump into a physical relationship, even though both their attracting was obvious. They didn’t want to make things harder in case it didn’t end up on the right track. Most of the times, the characters don’t think about consequences or they just don’t care. Theo and Elle are different though.
And the epilogue? Totally made me cry, it was so sweet!
I really enjoyed this novel and I’m so glad I got a chance to read this eARC! It is a must read, and a story I won’t forget anytime soon!
Elle is a vlogger in NY who is popular among teen girls due to her type of clean videos. Unfortunately, she had an ex who was seeking revenge and published a tape of them having sex in a closet. Determined to get as far away from the situation, she hops in her car and just drives. Eventually she ends up in a part of the Florida Keys called Creek Keys. She finally stops for food and befriends the waitress named Charity. They hit it off and when she says that she’s looking for a place to stay, Charity gets another customer to give up one of his rentals to help her out for a night or two.
Of course, a night or two becomes a week and well, you get the idea. Of course, this “landlord” is a single hot British guy with a spunky young daughter (who idolizes Elle and her videos) not to mention a crazy Aunt that loves to be naked on the beach.
Hot Mess is a bundle of fun that you don’t want to miss!
This was a quick read that was so much fun. It had moments that were real and emotional as well, and moments that were sweet and steamy. It absolutely made me smile. I laughed out loud at parts and I love Emma’s timing with her writing. The pace is perfect and the comedy is always so well done. I love her work everytime and this was no different. I can’t wait to see what she decides to write next. I will definitely be reading it.
I started reading ‘Hot Mess’ by Emma Hart last night and have not been able to put it down. I love her good natured characters and her comedic writing style.
This book is about Elle Evans, a famous vlogger who escapes to Cross Keys amid a sex tape scandal. She knows she was setup, and it threatens all she has worked hard and the reputation she has acquired, therefore she knows she needs to leave her New York apartment, and find herself and determine what her life will be like after the tape.
Theo is a landlord to beach houses in Cross Keys and happens to be in the wrong place at the right time when Elle needs a place to stay. He reluctantly allows her to rent the only house he has available which is a work in progress, and due to Elle’s desperation she happily accepts. Unfortunately Theo is less than welcoming assuming that she is not someone he would want around his young daughter Ari. But soon he realises that there’s no stopping him or his daughter from becoming captivated by the mysterious Elle.
This book had such a feel good factor about it. I loved Ari and Theo, and the CKCK crew are absolutely hilarious. I could not help chuckling at how outrageous Elsie and her friends were. It was an easy read with easy to love characters, and I can not recommend enough.
Perfect book for romantic comedy lovers, anyone who enjoys a good chick lit book, and someone just looking for a read that will put a smile on their face.
Elle Evans is a vlogger who has thousands of followers and is especially popular with impressionable preteen girls. When a vengeful ex posts a sex tape he made without her consent or knowledge, Elle goes on the run – and runs right to Creek Keys in Florida, where she hopes to hide out until this all blows over. When a very sexy Brit agrees to let her stay in his guest house, he comes with Arielle, a nine year old super fan. When Theo realizes that his guest is Elle the vlogger AND Elle the sex tape star, he really doesn’t want to like Elle, but there is something about Elle that means he can’t keep away from her. There are some very poignant moments in this story that made me feel all sorts of emotion and together with Ms. Hart’s funny sarcastic sense of humor, this made for a witty, warm, quick read that I loved.
**3.5 stars**
Hot Mess is an amusing, quick romantic comedy. I read it in one sitting, which hasn’t happened in awhile. The book starts with Elle on a road trip getting as far away from NYC as possible. She ends up in a small town in the Florida Keys, and decides to stay for awhile. We find out she is a famous lifestyle vlogger, and after a private tape is released by her ex, she is running from the media. As soon as she gets to town, she meets a young girl, who knows who she is and idolizes her, and the girl’s father, and he becomes Elle’s landlord. There are a bunch of meddling townspeople, crazy old ladies, and impressionable young girls in this cute town. There’s also some good messages in there about social media. It’s fun, entertaining, cute and light on the romance. I felt like this story was a little bit different than Emma Hart’s previous books. But, it was a story I enjoyed reading and would recommend it.
*I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I really liked this story for new reasons compared to other books from this author. The main character’s problem deals with her stage persona, public image being mudded, and how exposure is perceived both in positive and negative aspects.
The romantic part is calmer than usual, friendly and nice, and it still has appealing vibes thanks to the hot British landlord. The setting is wonderfully summery, the relationship goes through different steps from strangers in spontaneous close quarters to getting to know each other in ways that matter. I liked that tender quality while also sharing funny dialogues and situations. Add to that the cute little girl with fan syndrome for her social media heroine, and we have a perfectly adorable relationship with wit, candidness, and affection.
The romance in on the chaste side of the spectrum for most of the narrative, yet it feels right that way. It is all actually developing around Elle’s personal issues that brought her to this small town. Those issues are paramount and hold a forefront message in the plot.
It’s a quick read with quirky seniors, a lovely pre-teen, a grumpy but good-hearted single Dad, and a woman on the brink of a new life she has stumbled upon but finallly takes the reins of to grasp her happiness. Quite enchanting.
Hot Mess is a quick, fun romantic comedy! Ellie and Theo have undeniable chemistry and so many moments that made me laugh out loud! The slow-burn romance was perfect and the secondary characters were the best! This story also dealt with internet safety and I love how the author handled the topic.
It’s bad enough when your ex releases a sex tape you didn’t know existed, and even worse when you’re a well-known vlogger. Just ask Elle Evans, who hightailed it out of NY the second her video went viral and she needed to escape the media frenzy. And ends up hiding out in a beach house owned by a sexy, British, single dad. Yes, let me repeat that – SEXY. BRITISH. SINGLE DAD.
And that right there kicks off the latest from Emma Hart, a fun and easy read that I couldn’t put down. This wasn’t the rom-com I was expecting. but I really enjoyed it and loved these characters.
Hot Mess still has plenty of funny moments, but with a more serious undertone.
Theo & Elle were such fun characters, and Ari delivered the perfect amount of sassy & sweet. And, as expected from an Emma Hart novel, crazy pensioners boost up the comedy factor.
If you’re looking for a sweet & quick read I definitely recommend this one!
Hart brings her delightful romantic comedy to the table with her new release Hot Mess.
Hot Mess features Elle and Theo in one slow burn filled with chemistry, heat and hilarious moments between neighbors. Hart’s wit and humor were at the forefront of this novel reminding readers why you have fallen in love with her characters and stories over and over again.
Hot Mess is the latest romantic comedy from author Emma Hart. Hot Mess follows the story of Elle Evans, famous Vlogger, whose life gets turned upside down by a vengeful ex. Because of the mess her ex created, Elle finds herself escaping New York for Creek Keys, FL. It’s just the right place to hide out from the world until she can figure out what to do next. What she didn’t plan on, was meeting Theo. Theo is less than thrilled about having to help Elle out, but there is just something about her that stops him from turning Elle away. It doesn’t hurt that Elle is Theo’s daughter’s idol, but there’s more to it than that. While Theo is helpful and provides Elle a much needed place to escape, he thinks he’s got her all figured out, but he could’t be further from the truth. The more time Theo spends with Elle, the more he sees that there is more to Elle than meets the eye. Will Elle get her life set straight and return back to New York??? There’s only one way to find out….
Hot Mess was a really cute read. I absolutely adored Elle and thought she handled her scandal pretty well. I mean, it’s not everyday that you find out your ex made a tape of the two of you together and it gets released to the wild. Despite fleeing from New York, Elle handled her situation with grace and did her best to not only set the record straight, but also find the evidence to prove that her ex is truly scum. And poor Theo, when he meets Elle, the last thing he wants to do is help a tourist who is down on their luck. As much as Theo wants to tell her no, he can’t stop himself from helping her out. His daughter Ari was adorable as well. She looked up to Elle and completely idolized her for the videos she made. Ari reminded me a lot of my own preteen daughters who love to watch YouTube and have their own Vloggers that they idolize.
I had a lot of fun getting to know Elle and Theo. I thought they were a lot of fun and even though Theo came off a little brash in the beginning, there was a lot more to him than meets the eye. I loved getting to see Theo and Elle together. Theo’s daughter was a joy to be around. The little old ladies in the story were a total riot–you’re just going to have to read this for yourself to understand what I’m talking about.
Hot Mess was a fun read from beginning to end. You can’t help but fall in love with the characters and their story. Hot Mess was an easy, breezy light read that is sure to leave you laughing and with a huge smile on your face. It is the prefect book to spend your afternoon getting lost in. I hope you’ll check out Hot Mess and that you’ll fall in love with Theo & Elle, as I have.
