After a few weeks going by with books I liked but not too much, I finally found something that hooked me from the first page until the last. This new series seems promising. This is the first book I’ve read by Lauren Layne despite I’ve shelved some of her other works. The story is set in New York and as you may think from the hot guy on the cover, is about men in suits, in this case Wall Street billionaires.
The protagonist of the story is Ian Bradley, a talented investor who has arrived where he is only with his brain and hard work. He is proud of the path he did to get to the top, and won’t let anyone threaten what he fought so much to achieve. Enter Lara McKenzie, a talented woman who works for the SEC, and that comes to Wolfe Investments for an informal investigation against Ian. Is he guilty of a financial crime or is he not? You have to read to find out.
Ever since the opening scene, you’ll be hooked to the book. I liked how Ian and Lara seemed to “talk” to me as a reader, as if they were recounting their story as I turned the pages. This book never bored me and I loved the banter between the characters. You may think Ian is the usual rich playboy, but he’s more than that, and Lara isn’t the average female character with no integrity. They were realistic characters and all of their scenes with the secondary characters were funny and entertaining to read. The dialogue never seemed off and it kept my interest alive until the epilogue because I wanted to read each of the characters’ thoughts and smart remarks.
This is a love story that makes baby steps, meaning that the characters may appreciate each other after the first meeting, but they don’t sleep together nor kiss too soon. The author was good at creating a realistic story that moved at a slow pace, not rushing things but giving time to each moment of Ian and Lara’s story a proper timing.
Needles to say, I will check out the following book that will be about Matt and Sabrina. Can’t wait about Kennedy and Kate’s book as well. Ian and Lara’s story is nice, but it was nicer not only because of them, but also because of the world of characters and places like Wolfe that Lauren Layne has created.
A fabulous beginning to the new series Wolves of Wall Street .
We begin with Ian . He is a self made man, coming from a foster care upbringing he is hard and abrasive . Making his way as only he knows how with determination , skill, and intelligence. He is cut throat and arrogant but always honest when it comes to money and women. He is surrounded by loyal friends that always have his back ! They are a fabulous cast of characters .
Lara is making her way up in SEC , she investigates white collar criminals and shaddy business practices . When an anonymous tip comes in to the department she is sent to the offices of Wolf industry and on the doorstep of Ian.
Shall we say that these two individuals get off to a rough start and it doesn’t get any easier from there.
They soon discover that their is so much more to the real person than either one was expecting . I loved their sexually charged banter , wit, sass and chemistry !! So Good !
It is wrong , Illegal , and down right irresistible. They cannot submit when neither knows what the end will bring!

I have said it before and I will say it again….I LOVE Lauren Layne books. I am never disappointed when I pick a novel written by Lauren Layne.
Hot Asset is the first book in 21 Wall Street Series and it was AMAZING!! I am in love with this story and I can’t wait to see where she goes with this series. I loved all the characters that were introduced in this book. I also found the storyline refreshing. It is about a subject I haven’t seen in most books.
To me Hot Asset felt like a different kind of story from Lauren Layne. Yes we have everything we come to expect from a book of hers, but in this one she added a suspenseful element that had me turning the pages so fast to find out the answers to my questions. I loved that she had me guessing until it was all revealed.
Hot Asset is an opposite attracts forbidden romantic suspense novel. It is told in Dual POV and is a standalone novel. This series will have interconnected characters, so if you can I would start with Hot Asset and read them in order. I found the flow and pace of this story worked perfect. If you like a slow burn story then this is the one for you. Even if you aren’t a fan there is so much more to this story that the pace she takes Ian and Lara won’t bother you. The storyline is so captivating that you won’t even miss all the sexy scenes. Now don’t get me wrong, when these two do hook up they steam up the pages. I loved their chemistry.
In this book we follow Ian and Lara. Ian is a top Wall Street broker and Lara is SEC investigator assigned to investigate Ian. Ian is thrown off his normal “player” game when he first meet Lara and she isn’t instantly swooning over him. But he isn’t deterred even when he finds out what Lara is there for. He is actually more determined after that. I loved their banter. I also loved that Lara didn’t stand for an of Ian’s male magnetism. She put him in his place when need be. So what happens when they start feeling more for each other?? Will either of them be willing to forget about the job they both love to get their HEA?? Read this book to find out.
I would recommend this book to everyone. This is a great and fun start to a Lauren Layne series and one you don’t want to miss!!!!
I devoured this whole series. Lauren Layne is always a good bet!
Oh man, Lauren Layne has done it again. I have a feeling the 21 Wall Street books are going to be some of my favorites. Hot Asset is one of my favorite books of Layne’s to date and I can’t help but wanting to go back and read it again already.
Right off the bat, we meet manwhore Ian. He’s a Wall Street egotistic, who isn’t afraid to brag about how good his life is. The only problem? There is more to Ian than you think there is. There’s a side to him you aren’t prepared for. But it made him even better. Okay, back to his manwhore ways…most women can’t resist him and one look at him and they fall… until the woman he meets in the company coffee lounge.
Lara Mckenzie, oh how I loved her! This power house of woman was just what I needed. She’s gorgeous, she’s strong, she resists all of Ian’s comments and kindly tells him, she isn’t interested. Lara has a job to do… she’s a SEC investigator, investigating Ian. Oh, did the story get good at that point.
Everything about Ian and Lara was perfect. I couldn’t help but love watching navigate their attraction, their complicated situation and how they achieved their happy ending. I can’t wait for book 2 in this series of standalones.
New to me author. I listened to the audiobook. This is a MF contemporary romance set in the USA. Main characters are Lara and Ian. Their jobs make them enemies but love wins out. Love Ian’s step dad and all the broken TV’s. Lara is an insider trading investigator and Ian is a Wall Street investor.
Gah! Why have I not read this author before? I LOVED this book so much. It’s fast-paced and witty, and the banter between Ian and Lara is as adorable as it is addicting. I couldn’t one-click the second book in the series fast enough!
This was my first Lauren Layne listen. I really enjoyed it. The build up to Lara & Ian’s relationship was amazing! Great story. I can’t wait to listen to book 2. Excellent Narration by Jacob Morgan & Samantha Cook.
“Lara McKenzie isn’t a one-night kind of woman. She’s an all-the-nights kind of woman.”
Hot Asset is a romantic story that is cute, sweet, and steamy. Told from the POVs of Lara McKenzie and Ian Bradley, two total opposites and yet — totally attracted to one another. Lara has been hired to investigate Ian Bradley, after he is accused of insider trading. Being drawn to each other is so inconvenient. Lara needs to stay objective and get a win if she wants to get to the FBI. Ian needs to stay focused and prove his innocence before his career and everything he’s worked for goes up in smoke.
“I want to unravel her. I want to unravel with her.”
I really loved this book. The writing style pulled me in and the characters (even the supporting ones) are likeable. Lauren Layne knows how to write a romantic comedy with depth and suspense. Lara and Ian were so cute together. I loved their internal thoughts and the lessons they learned, all leading up to one helluva sweet HEA.
This was my first book by this author. I listened to it on Audible and the narrators performed amazingly. I really enjoyed Ian and Lara’s story. Although it was unexpected, I enjoyed the storyline and their chemistry.
A slow burn, interesting, saucy, and steamy story. I absolutely enjoyed this book.

Review:
I liked this book, it was a bit predictable at times but it was still enjoyable. The book is an easy read with good main and supportive characters.
This book really shows that we as people are quick to judge and think that we know best when that isn’t always the case. Sometimes what you think you know isn’t the truth. I loved that these characters where able to change their minds upon learning new facts.
There was some drama in this book that could have been resolved easier if the main characters just talked to each other but it didn’t take away from the story. It was resolved fast enough.
Overall it was a enjoyable read.
Rating:
3 1/2 I liked it Stars
I really enjoyed this book. The character were very relatable and you felt like you knew them. It was filled with action and passsion…my 2 favorites.
Hot Asset This was my first Lauren Layne book and I loved it. I loved the main characters. They both had dimensions and faults. Ian is not just a playboy with a seven-figure bank account. He had a hard life and fought for everything. It made you like him all the more. Laura saw everything in black & white, good and bad and was leading a pretty boring life.
I like that the attraction wasn’t instant, but it took time to get there. Witty banter and a great plot made me finish this book quickly. I can’t wait to find out what happens with Ian’s best buds, Kennedy and Matt
I wasn’t sure what I was getting into when I started this read/listen. Lauren Layne is a new to me author, and a recommended read. I am not sorry at all that I started it. Ian starts off putting all his charming moves onto the WRONG person, and she delights in his misstep. The two main characters and the four side characters that start off in this book follow along through the series. The group can be fun, but they definitely have a fun witty banter going on that makes you feel like on of the group and while not making the book a comedy, gives it the close knit vibe for the characters.
The narration by Zachary Webber and Samantha Cook is as always wonderfully done.
Lauren Layne is the queen of steamy, funny, smart books, and Hot Asset is no exception. If you’re looking for the perfect beach read, here it is.
I love this story and can’t wait to read the next one. Great characters and great situation.
I really enjoyed this book ,it made me laugh and swoon 🙂 i love the characters and the world that Lauren Layne built 🙂 and all the banter ! i love me some good banter 🙂
Ian is (sigh so dreamy) he’s funny ,smart, sweet and totally hot ,i love how cocky he is 🙂 when he first meets Lara and hits on her right away was great, the one liners he zinged at her had no effect on her and it was so funny ,all the chemistry between them was off the charts and i was dying to see them get together ,its a slowish burn but once the flames start its such a fast burn and i loved every moment of it 🙂 i loved that Lara actually made Ian change his ways ,like he didn’t see how lonely his life was until he got a taste of how a relationship could be ,he was afraid to put himself on the line but once he did it was great , he really is a amazing boyfriend !
I love Lara ,she’s cool and funny and i love that she’s more of a home body ! the moment she meets Ian she see’s that her life isn’t where she wants it to be but she also can’t start a relationship with someone she is investigating but once she clears his name (she doesn’t waste time) and they give each other a chance and it was so awesome ,they make a great couple ,i loved when Ian shows up at the end of the book (swoon worthy moment ) it was pretty freaking perfect ! they totally make an awesome pair !!!
Holy crap i love the side characters and i can not wait to read their books 🙂 i know that they are gonna be totally bitchen’ 🙂
You can’t go wrong with Lauren Layne. I didn’t think I’d love anything as much as her Oxford and Stiletto series, but this one hits the stop just as hard. All three books in the Wall Street series as fun, sexy and emotional reads.
I love a story in which the characters verbally spar with and are evenly matched with one another – it’s great foreplay! I also love Ian’s friends and their dynamic together. Can’t wait to read the others in this series.
