It’s not every day that a beautiful naked woman falls out of the sky and lands face-first on grizzly shifter Berg Dunn’s hotel balcony. Definitely they don’t usually hop up and demand his best gun. Berg gives the lady a grizzly-sized t-shirt and his cell phone, too, just on style points. And then she’s gone, taking his XXXL heart with her. By the time he figures out she’s a honey badger shifter, … shifter, it’s too late.
Honey badgers are survivors. Brutal, vicious, ill-tempered survivors. Or maybe Charlie Taylor-MacKilligan is just pissed that her useless father is trying to get them all killed again, and won’t even tell her how. Protecting her little sisters has always been her job, and she’s not about to let some pesky giant grizzly protection specialist with a network of every shifter in Manhattan get in her way. Wait. He’s trying to help? Why would he want to do that? He’s cute enough that she just might let him tag along—that is, if he can keep up . . .

This book is brilliant. The plot is exciting , the characters are witty, gritty, and pull no punches, literally. This the fifth novel that I have read about this group of shifters, and they just don’t get old. Can’t wait to get another.
Shelly is one of my favorite authors. Her writing and style is a great read. If you read one of her stories you have to read them all. Thanks for the wonderful reads.
Could not put this book down! It was laugh out loud funny and outrageous.
I am such a fan of Shelly Laurenston’s books. I’ve re-read them so often that when characters from the earlier books popped up in “Hot and Badgered” I was thrilled. How Shelly keeps the vast cast of characters true to themselves, I don’t know, but I love it!
This book was a non-stop thrill ride with action, humour, family and an adorable romance.
Great read and lots of funny storylines
I don’t read a lot of shifter books like I used to, but this author is my favorite. I’ve read every single one and they’re hilarious and so entertaining. Omg these sisters just kill me. I love that other couples from her books are in here too. I can’t wait to see what happens with Stevie in the next book. But I’m Team Max all the way. That is girl is so awesome in a psychotic kinda way.
TEN!!! RIP-ROARING, ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC, MARVELOUS, LAUGHED SO HARD I THINK I CRACKED A RIB FROM FALLING FROM THE BED, READ IT TWICE, ON MY THIRD RE-READ SO GLAD THAT MS. LAURENSTON WRITES THESE ASTOUNDING BOOKS STARS!!!!! (Ummmm, was that too much, you think? Nah, Lol) I am so glad that Ms. Laurentson has continued to write these shifter stories. I cannot recall laughing so hard and so much and able to totally relate to these stores as I have never done with any other book before. The honey-badger MacKilligan sisters are a hot mess and I am in love with them so freaking much! It seems Dee-Ann has met her match with Charlie Taylor-MacKilligan (and love that last name by the way, kill-again, lol, priceless). We have Charlie the oldest and the one that can keep, Max the middle one, from killing everyone while smiling and Stevie, the youngest, the prodigy who I believe, in my opinion was the best of them all, in line and out of trouble, Lol. Then we have the Dunn’s, Bear Triplets! That is just, WOW. I mean Bears in Triplet form? How freaking amazing is that! Loved it! Loved Berg, who was completely and calmly perfect for Charlie. I cannot say enough about how awesome it was to catch up on past characters and so many pleasant surprises. This was the best, I read it so fast the first time, I had to read it again and I am currently reading it for the third time and decided I needed to write this review, Lol. I cannot say too much about this, because if I do, I will spoil it for all the fans and I cannot do that. So please, please, I implore you all to read this and enjoy it! AMAZING 10 STAR READ!!!
P.S. I need more Panda, can we please get more Shen? Lol…
Loved the beginning of this book! The three little girls getting rid of the alpha wolf was hilarious! Easy read with funny characters and lots of action.
Oh my God..it had me cracking up…I read it and then I read it again….I freaking loved this book.. and the girls..( honey Badgers) awesome…
This is a great start to a new series. Cannot wait for more!
Paranormal First Timers ? , this series is a must- have. They are the first paranormal riot of books for you to try. The series, including this one is so hilarious I wake my husband up laughing. Then I have to read part of it to him.
A fun rollercoaster good time to be had to just read an entertaining book about bears, leopards, honey badgers; my favorite, and many more. If you are open minded and want a fun filled series to lift your spirits take my advice. Get to know Shelly Laurenston. Her books are adoreable and I’m 65.
I’ve been a fan of Shelly Laurenston’s work for years now. But when I found out that she decided to end her popular Pride Series I was crushed. After nine books of fun, over the top characters, hilarious laugh out loud moments – I felt bereft and if I’m honest I was in denial. So, when I found out she was releasing a new series, I was all over it. Color me surprised and absolutely in love, when I realized that her new book Hot and Badgered was part of my beloved Pride world.
Reading this book made me HAPPY!!!!
I have to admit that after a four year break, being reintroduced to my favorite cast had my head spinning, but only in a good way. This book was exactly what I needed. The author’s signature wit, the story’s diverse and unique cast and a plot that reminded me why I fell in love with her books in the first place – made this book a reading experience like no other.
Shelly Laurenston has the unique talent of writing shifters that embody everything a shifter should be. Her characters are close to their animals, and have distinct animal characteristics. I have never read shifters with such authentic animal behavior before. Not only do they feel like real shifters, they act that way too. On top of that, the author’s heroines are tough, bad ass, kick ass and hilarious to boot. They go nose to nose with anyone that threatens their family and friends. Feisty, sassy and often times as fearless as any alpha male. And I love them all.
There is really only one author that writes these kind of characters and that’s Shelly Laurenston.
I’m not going into detail about the storyline. If you ever read one of the Pride books, you know what you can look forward to. This book is an accumulation of beloved characters, as well as an introduction to three women that hopefully will feature prominently in her next books. Hot and Badgered is also not for the fainthearted. The story starts with a BANG, and it pretty much continues that way. I felt like I was on an exhilarating roller coaster ride I didn’t’ want to end.
Be prepared to be wowed, and swept away by an engrossing novel that will only make you want MORE.
Welcome back Shelly Laurenston – I missed you!!!!
I received an Advanced Reading Copy of Hot and Badgered from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. As always, the following review consists solely of my opinions and mine alone. I then reread the entire series so it was all nice and fresh before I dived into the ARC.
In Hot and Badgered, we meet a whole new set of shifters and see the return of some of our favourites as well. I was almost fooled by the prologue and was worried I wouldn’t have any Blayne, Dee-Ann, or Livvy cameos in Hot and Badgered, but I shouldn’t have doubted Shelly Laurenston to deliver. I’ll never doubt you again, Ms Laurenston.
Hot and Badgered focuses on an ostracised branch of Livvy’s family, the MacKilligan sisters. The oldest of three sisters, Charlie Taylor-MacKilligan is an anomaly. She and her youngest sister, Stevie, are only half honey badger which isn’t a thing since HB genetics totally dominate in every other pairing with honey badgers involved. Together with their middle sister, Max, the MacKilligan sisters are on the run from the the first paragraph. Their guesses as to who’s behind the hit squad after them varies from a Peruvian drug lord to government types, but one thing they know for sure is that it’s definitely their no-good useless father’s fault.
Charlie jumps off her hotel room’s balcony and lands on Cooper Jean-Louise Parker’s balcony (yes, the JLPs are baaaaack!) and Berg Dunn is Coop’s bodyguard on duty. Berg and Charlie take on the black-ops types that crashed the party and while Berg has no idea who she is, he starts falling for Charlie then and there, even as she takes off again. She meets up with Max, and the two go to Switzerland to break their genius sister, Stevie, out of yet another ‘mental health spa’ and then they head to Manhattan and a Yang Family safe house (aka Livvy’s house that is most decidedly not a Yang Family safe house).
Eventually Berg takes Charlie and her sisters to a place he knows will be perfect for the sisters to hideout until they figure things out. It doesn’t hurt that it’s a house in the same neighbourhood as the house Berg shares with the other members of his triplet set, Britta and Dag. The safest place he could think of was in a bear-only neighbourhood and as long as Max doesn’t raid their hives and Charlie keeps stressbaking, everybear is more than happy to welcome the sisters to the neighbourhood.
It isn’t until we’re introduced to Dee-Ann’s daughter that I realised that Hot and Badgered takes place at least 7 years after Livvy’s story, Bite Me, which I wasn’t too happy about. If you’ve read the entire series of Laurenston’s from Eggie Ray’s short story to Sara Morrighan’s introduction to her true self to Mace Llewellyn’s reuniting with his Bronx love to the mighty bearcat that is Novikov (who is not a serial killer), you’ve seen the craziness that I love and adore in Laurenston’s books. And I was so upset that I missed the pregnancy crazies that I just know Dee-Ann and Blayne experienced through their pregnancies. I will literally get down on my hands and knees and beg Ms Laurenston for a book that has flashbacks (which I steadfastly despise) just so I can read how wild Blayne got or how terrifying Dee-Ann was during their pregnancy days.
Moving on before I start that wailing again (I get emotionally invested in my favourite books!).
Due to a few miscommunications (I totally blame Max’s best friend), Dee-Ann and Cella (yes, the cat killer is back!) end up chasing Charlie and her sisters around Manhattan, including at the Sports Center where so many things I love happen and I can’t tell you about them because it would spoil the story.
We get to see Sissy Mae and Mitch crash a house party, the sisters gain a Jean-Louise Parker prodigy roommate, Ric gets back in the kitchen (while Dee-Ann is teaching their daughter what her daddy taught her), Stevie faces her fear of bears in Shen Li, and Charlie gets a job to do what she does best that pays over $80K for a few days work. And we get a new shifter breed introduced! What else can I say to convince you that you need to read Hot and Badgered? There’s moderate bloodshed, funny moments abound, and favourite characters return in cameos!
There are only a few things I disliked about Hot and Badgered. Mostly the fact that we skipped witnessing pregnant Dee-Ann and pregnant Blayne being in the same room. Because if you know Dee-Ann and Blayne, you know things happened. I’m not a fan of horrible fathers like Charlie, Max, and Stevie are cursed with but that’s pretty much my daddy issues popping out of the closet to say howdy-do. But the likes by far outweigh the dislikes for me.
I love that the MacKilligan sisters are half-sisters (Charlie is half-wolf, Stevie is half-tiger, and Max is full honey badger) and they’re all raised by one of the moms until they end up having to go live with Charlie’s grandfather. Max is outright unstable but then you have Stevie who is heavily medicated for her anxiety issues and when she goes off-meds, she’s just as unstable. When Stevie isn’t hiding in trees from man-eating bears (don’t judge), she’s got her sisters’ backs too. And then, there’s Charlie, who’s the one who always has her head on straight and always has several plans to keep her sisters safe. I love how Stevie and Max advise Berg on how to win over Charlie, “stray dog it!” is now a thing that shall live in infamy. Novikov trying to recruit the sisters repeatedly in the strangest moments.
If this book were human, I’d marry it. Therefore, I give Hot and Badgered 5 out of 5 stars (le gasp!) and a nice mellow 2 flames of sexytimes. Ms Laurenston focused on the storyline and didn’t overindulge in the love scenes so I didn’t feel like an unwilling voyeur reading through things. I wholeheartedly suggest y’all check it out.
I love Shelly’s books because they are so funny and entertaining. Her books are well written and original stories.
Whenever I review one of her books I must list her names–Laurenston/ Aiken/ Gardner/Ashley. This is a Laurenston title and was highly entertaining. I had the giggles even though I had a miserable sinus infection with a massive headache. If you love a funny over the top story, go for this one. It is really best if you have read some of the previous books so that you get who the characters are and why reactions are what they are. I’m planning to re-read it soon, preferably as a go to sleep book. I hope the next books will be coming out soon.
This is literally one of the most funny and inventive books I’ve ever read. Yes, there is a romance, and you can go from that angle. There are also three sisters in a hell of a lot of trouble, for various reasons. There are weres in the world–badger, tiger, bear, etc. This takes a tired premise and makes it fun, new, and twisty as hell. Read this book when you don’t have to work the next day. You’ll forget to sleep, or even to go to work. It’s that funny, and that difficult to put down. I want the next one, NOW!
This is another funny and action packed book by one of my favorite authors, Shelly Laurenston. Always entertaining, this one features 3 sisters who are at least part honey badger, and a bear shifter who is intrigued by one of them. Let the chaos commence! This was an adventure that you don’t want to end.
A laugh out loud paranormal romance that had lots of crackling, sexy heat, and a wickedly fun sense of humor, fabulous banter, and terrific characters. I don’t read many of Shelly Laurenston books often so I forget just how much fun her books can be but Hot And Badgered reminded me again just why her books are loved so much by readers!
From the very moment I started this book I was entranced. With plenty of heat, exhilarating moments, sassy, flirty, sexy times, and outrageously fun banter I couldn’t seem to stop reading this book. My husband ended up dragging me away in the wee hours of the morning because I had a great time reading. I am smitten with this series and I so NEED MORE because darn, this book was AMAZING!
Hot And Badgered gets a SUPERB FIVE SHOOTING STARS! I love a book that can make me laugh and sigh and this one made me do both throughout the entire book.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
I have been waiting for Hot and Badgered for eons! First, I thought I snagged an ARC but then learned it was only for the first chapter. Even though I’m not a sneak peak kind of girl, mainly because I have zero patience, I read it and was intense and funny and had me wanting the full story right freaking then. See. No patience. Then I waited, and I waited some more. When I finally scored the full arc I was doing cartwheels. I dove in and it was every bit the snarky, violently hilarious funfest I expected.
The three MacKilligan sisters have had a tough life constantly being dragged into their POS father’s crazy schemes. If they could find him and kill him off life would be so much simpler. Only one of the three sisters is a full honey badger, the other two are mixed breeds with Charlie being half wolf/half honey badger. These three are as close as close can be and are extremely protective of each other which is good because hybrid shifters have it tough in this world.
Charlie’s job has been to protect her baby sisters since her Mom was killed. With as crazy as her sisters are and as much trouble as they always seem to be in, Berg surprised her. The cute grizzly that kept popping up at opportune times (like when bad guys are bent on killing her). He actually went out of his way to help her and took her and her sisters to the safest place he knows, his bear neighborhood.
Between kidnapping and assassination attempts, grumpy bears getting their precious bee hives raided and none other than the Group getting in the midst of things, this was one crazy ride. Having Dee-Ann Smith, the most obnoxious, maddening, Group operative of them all getting a little lesson in humility was just the icing on my snarky and fun cake.
Berg was perfect as he did his best to “stray dog” his way into Charlie’s heart. He was a perfect mix of sweet teddy bear and gruff growly grizzly. Charlie was the sanest of the three sisters, but that really wasn’t saying a lot. She was loyal to her sisters and hell on anyone who crossed them.
Charlie and Berg had great chemistry, but once again the romance took a bit of a back seat to everything else going on. This was mostly A-okay with me though, since I had such a good time reading it. I can’t wait to read more honey badger stories. These books have always been insane, but the honey badgers seem to have ramped that up a few notches.
Rating: 4.5 Stray Doggin’ It Stars
**Received ARC from NetGalley for a fair and honest review**
Hot and Badgered is the 1st book in the Honey Badgers series. This is a spin off of the other shifter series, and if you’ve read those books you will get to see a lot of favorites in this book. I loved this book, and had a difficult time putting it down. I always know that when I pick up a book by Shelly Laurenston I am in for a fun ride, this book had me laughing hysterically, I was at an appt reading on my phone and people were looking at me like I was crazy. This was an awesome start to this series. There are a mess of secondary characters that I absolutely cannot wait for their stories!!
So I really enjoyed Charlie and Berg and both of their siblings. I really enjoyed the chemistry between them. I like this authors books because they are fun, they give you romance, you get that hot and steamy, but not overboard, you get updates on previous books characters, you get a storyline and at the end you can’t wait for the next book. I can’t wait to see which character gets the next book– though I do sort of hope it’s Stevie and that she ends up with Shen! Don’t worry that’s not a spoiler. Just something I’d like to see. Hopefully there will also be a bear spinoff because now that Charlie, Stevie and Max are living in a bear neighborhood and those characters have been introduced especially Berg’s siblings Dag and Britta it would be a shame not to get bears! So much I could go on and on about with this book. Bottomline, I loved the book, can’t wait for the next. Always know I will get a good laugh, and a good story from this author. Hope this helps! Happy Reading!!!
