It’s not every day that a beautiful naked woman falls out of the sky and lands face-first on grizzly shifter Berg Dunn’s hotel balcony. Definitely they don’t usually hop up and demand his best gun. Berg gives the lady a grizzly-sized t-shirt and his cell phone, too, just on style points. And then she’s gone, taking his XXXL heart with her. By the time he figures out she’s a honey badger shifter, … shifter, it’s too late.
Honey badgers are survivors. Brutal, vicious, ill-tempered survivors. Or maybe Charlie Taylor-MacKilligan is just pissed that her useless father is trying to get them all killed again, and won’t even tell her how. Protecting her little sisters has always been her job, and she’s not about to let some pesky giant grizzly protection specialist with a network of every shifter in Manhattan get in her way. Wait. He’s trying to help? Why would he want to do that? He’s cute enough that she just might let him tag along—that is, if he can keep up . . .

Loved it
A “romance” where the two protagonists are alone together, what, twice? Good story, and entertaining, but definitely lacking an actual romantic plotline.
The book took off running and didn’t let me down. Fun read!
It’s been a long time when an author keeps me up way past my bedtime to finish a book. I laughed so many times out loud. Don’t want to be part of the MacKilligans family but loved reading about their antics. Time to read the next book in the series – In a Badger Way.
Once again total craziness abounds.
Three half-sisters with the most amazing amount of talent, craziness, ability and downright ability to survive.
The bear street was just so cool with everything going on.
Max and Stevie were wonderfully intense and nuts respectively.
Liked the new characters we met and loved that we had some of my favourite characters popping in to this story.
I loved that Charlie is worse than Dee Ann and Cella. Never thought I would see the day those two were whooped.
Not too sure about the father still being alive. Thought the two crazy aunts and Mairi was enough to go forward with.
The reason I took a star away was the lack of romance between Charlie and Berg. Just didn’t feel the love and three quarters of the way into the book they really didn’t seem to even be getting together, then all of a sudden they were having sex.
Will I be reading the rest of this series? YOU BET.
Shelly Laurenston did not disappoint with this one. I love the humor and the characters. She weaves new and old characters together in such a great way. I can’t wait to see what Stevie and Shen have to offer, as well as Britta (Ber’s sister). She was hilarious. Max (Charlie’s sister) was crazy, and I still can’t figure her out. Her story will be very interesting. You can read this as a standalone, you just won’t know who the old characters are when they make appearances.
5 Full Stars!
Genres; Adult, Action-Adventure, Humor & Comedy, Paranormal, Romance
Negatives & Positives
Shelly Laurenston has not lost her touch. Not only that, but I think this has beat her other series all to heck and back. Definitely Off The Charts fantastic read.
The world build and flow of the story was shear perfection.
The humor has you laughing out loud.
The romance is adult and perfectly written. It is not erotica nor porn. It is adult.
Thank you, thank you, thank you Ms. Laurenston for writing this story!
The suspense and action will have you on your toes and often laughing at these shifter’s shenanigans.
Charlie & Berg were fantastic together. All the characters got in on the action.
Can not wait to read Book 2.
Loved it.
Laughed my Butt off!
bookshelves: adult, paranormal, romance, humor-comedy
Love every book from Shelly Laurenstons..
This series is funny, fast paced and the couples are perfect.. Strong women and alpha males .. but in the right way.. my next one was already pre ordered…
Laughed out loud throughout the book!
Shelly Laurenston writes the most irreverent and fun shifter romance novels. Her characters do have the characteristics of the animals they shift into, but unlike other novels in the human shifting into animal paranormal genre, it doesn’t skeeve me out. I always look forward to a new release and I’ve been looking forward to reading Hot and Badgered since I read and featured the Chapter excerpt a few months ago.
If this were a normal novel I’d say that Charlie is the overprotective older sister who has taken it upon herself to protect her two younger sisters their entire lives. However, this is a shifter novel, so that same sentence should actually be, full blooded honey badger, Charlie is the overprotective sister to her half tiger/honey badger genius younger sister, and her psychotic always smiling honey badger middle sister. Sounds like a lot more fun, right? Honey badgers are notorious for not being scared of anything. They will fight a grizzly to the death even though they are bigger and more fierce. These ladies are no different they are death personified, but sweet and funny at the same time.
Berg Dunn meets Charlie when she dives naked out of her hotel bedroom and lands two flights down in his. He helps protect her from the armed men who are chasing her and she runs out the door before he learns her name. When he finds her a few days later he helps them rent a house in his bear neighborhood where they will catch the scent of any non bear who tries to sneak in. This is the start of Berg’s fascination with Charlie, but Charlie doesn’t want to bring solid, dependable Berg into her crazy life. Of course, he does finally wear her down, but not before a lot of blood is shed and food is eaten. Shelly Laurenston has built a world that is total fantasy and 100% fun. These shifters are fierce and somewhat like their animal namesakes, so reading their reactions to each other is kind of like watching the Discovery Channel but the animals have human emotions to match their animal fierceness. Berg and Charlie were a fun couple and complemented the other. Berg was solid and nice while Charlie was a bit ADHD and a warrior. She was the most normal of the three sisters so I can’t imagine what species could possibly be matched up with either of her two crazy sisters.
If you’ve never read a Shelly Laurenston novel, I’d start with the Pride series the world might make a little more sense, however, this is a stand alone novel and there are only a couple of extraneous characters who show up where you may miss a subtle reference.
Blood-thirsty siblings should be a description, too! 🙂
This book is fast paced and kept me laughing the whole time. I love the sisters.
Looking at all the descriptors I used to describe this book makes me seem as if I am unhinged! But really that’s the kind of book this is, and I really and truly enjoyed reading it. I never really knew where it was going geographically or storywise. Yet, I loved the character’s. The honey badger who had to bake when stressed. The genius who ended up on the ceiling and was afraid of bears because they can eat you. Then there is always Max who understands how violence can be used to solve problems. Unbelievably there is an extremely happy ending. This was a great book to read and unlike most of the other shifter books I have read.
I laughed my self silly, really, there were belly laughs and tears. Shelly Laurenston is truly a gifted writer. I make it a point to read everything she releases.
I couldn’t stop laughing. The characters are great!
I really like the book, but it did take me a little while to get in to the book. I’m looking forward the next two.
While reading this book I would laugh out loud, I couldn’t help myself. It has a wide range of characters with their own personalities that you either fell in love with or wanted see them taken out. Looking forward to their story lines.
Shelly Laurenston always entertains with her sideways view of dual- natured folk and her irreverent humor. Love reading her books!
Love it!!
Hot and Badgered is a fast paced, laugh out loud romp. The characters are lovably crazy with enough believability to keep you reading until the very end. I would share this book with any lovers of paranormal romance.
