It’s not every day that a beautiful naked woman falls out of the sky and lands face-first on grizzly shifter Berg Dunn’s hotel balcony. Definitely they don’t usually hop up and demand his best gun. Berg gives the lady a grizzly-sized t-shirt and his cell phone, too, just on style points. And then she’s gone, taking his XXXL heart with her. By the time he figures out she’s a honey badger shifter, … shifter, it’s too late.
Honey badgers are survivors. Brutal, vicious, ill-tempered survivors. Or maybe Charlie Taylor-MacKilligan is just pissed that her useless father is trying to get them all killed again, and won’t even tell her how. Protecting her little sisters has always been her job, and she’s not about to let some pesky giant grizzly protection specialist with a network of every shifter in Manhattan get in her way. Wait. He’s trying to help? Why would he want to do that? He’s cute enough that she just might let him tag along—that is, if he can keep up . . .

Shelly Laurenston’s paranormal romance novels are unique and funny. Lots of memorable characters, quirky twists, action, and romance!
HOT AND BADGERED is the first instalment in Shelly Laurenston’s contemporary, adult THE HONEY BADGERS CHRONICLES paranormal, romance series –a spin off from the author’s Pack and Pride Series. This is hybrid honey badger/ wolf Charlie Taylor-MacKilligan, and grizzly shifter Berg Dunn’s story line.
NOTE: Fans of the author’s Pride and Pack series will recognize a number of the secondary and supporting characters including the Jean-Louis Parkers, Bo and Blayne, and of course the Van Holtz and Smith Packs; Sissy Mae Smith and her mate lion shifter Mitch Shaw.
Told from several third person points of view including Berg and Charlie HOT AND BADGERED introduces the MacKilligan Honey Badgers and their large extended family, and the Dunn grizzly bear family and friends of the BPC –Bear Protection Council-the international protection agency for the bear nation. HOT AND BADGERED follows the MacKilligan sisters as the struggle to stay one step ahead of a group of mercenaries intent on taking them down –dead or alive. Charlie, and her half-sisters Maxie (honey badger) and Stevie (honey badger/tiger) have been on the run for years. Their father, Freddy MacKilligan, an a$$hole of the first degree, has endangered his daughter’s lives since the moment they were born, and in this, the trio have battled enough evil in their lives to ensure a lifetime of therapy for everyone involved. When news comes that their father has died, the girls go in search of the truth only to discover that desperate times call for desperate measures and the trio find themselves hiding out amongst the shifter bears of New York. Enter Berg Dunn, grizzly shifter and security expert, and the man with whom Charlie will fall in love. What ensues is a complex battle with several forces intent on taking down the MacKilligan sisters, as a series of events and catastrophes threaten their less than well-ordered lives.
HOT AND BADGERED is a detailed storyline with all of the author’s requisite humor, sarcasm, wit and charm. Charlie MacKilligan, the eldest sister, is very protective of Stevie and Max. As members of the honey badger shifters, the trio are feared for their aggression and ability to kill but it is their ‘hybrid’ genes that make them an unknown threat in the world of the shifter nations. Stevie has a copious number of emotional and psychological problems, and her ‘shifter abilities’ attracts some unwanted attention. Maxie is a trained killer; a warrior in her own right, and a woman whose ability to get the job done catches the eye of The Group, and The Carnivore’s shifter hockey team.
There is a large ensemble cast of secondary and supporting characters including some very familiar shifters (Dee-Ann and Ric; Niles Van Holtz, Bo, Blayne, Loch, Crushek and his mate Marcella Malone) and the introduction of many more including Berg’s triplet brother and sister Dag and Britta Dunn, and Maxie’s best friend wolverine shifter Dutch Alexander. Panda shifter Shen Li, Kyle Jean-Louis Parker’s body guard has caught the eye of Stevie MacKilligan.
HOT AND BADGERED advances the series several years as there are now a number of off-spring spawned by the Pride series characters. It was great to reconnect with so many familiar characters, and witness the next-generation of shifters taking their place in the author’s story lines and series.
Shelly Laurenston has an amazing ability to pull the reader into an elaborate world of spirited and playful shifters with her fantastic story line banter, and characteristic charm. Maxie’s on-going and stingingly successful raids on the local honeycomb and bee apiaries is nothing short of pure unadulterated fun; and Stevie’s inability to navigate the world in which she was born is both heart breaking and humorous. HOT AND BADGERED is a fantastic and imaginative take on the paranormal; Shelly Laurenston is an author you do not want to skip.
love, love , love Shelly Laurenston’s books! I have read them all, she cannot write them fast enough for me.
This story was very interesting and entertaining. It was action packed and a page Turner. I could not put it down until I finished it. Now I am ready to read it again.
Hot and Badgered is the first in a brand new series and it was so much fun to read. I love the silly snarky humor, crazy characters, and laugh out loud moments.
This book is a wild ride from start to finish with people trying to kill Charlie and her sisters, a father who’s pretty much the black sheep of the family, and larger then life characters. If your not familiar with Laurenston and her Pride series, well that’s ok, you can still have fun with Hot and Badgered.
As always I enjoy the ridiculous antics that Laurenston puts her characters through. The family dynamites and snarky humor add to the fun and enjoyment of reading. You can’t take these books seriously and that’s the main reason I love reading them. Their light, easy, fun to enjoy, out of the box, and creative!
Those that have read the Pride series will love the return of many previous characters. I adored the new cast as well as seeing the old. Copper Jean-Louis Parker our prodigy musician piano player ends up spending a lot more time on the pages, but our main characters; Berg our lovable grizzly bear and Charlie our honey badger keep the pages going with their families and courtship.
Hot and Badgered is hilarious and you know theirs going to be more silly crazy fun times ahead with these honey badgers. I can’t wait for the next installment.
Rated: 4.5 Stars
This book was not at all what I expected it would be. I thought it was going to be a cute, funny book with comical shifters. But what I got was more serious. There was some levity but it wasn’t the joking book I thought it was going to be. I did really enjoy reading it! I’m excited to read the next one!
5 stars – I loved it!
Charlie Taylor-MacKilligan is used to her life being chaotic but when she and her sisters keep getting attacked she knows her father is most likely involved. Now she is renting a house in a bear neighborhood in the hopes it will keep her sister safe, it helps that her neighbor is kind of cute too.
I adored Charlie and Berg. Berg is such an adorably awkward bear and I loved him so much for it. Charlie is the organized and protective sister of the group. She has spent her life taking care of Stevie and keeping Max out of jail. She may not be able to shift fully but she can still protect her sisters. Charlie was a smart, sassy, and a little bit crazy heroine and I loved everything about her. Their relationship was slow building, at least for this series, and I think it worked perfectly for these two.
One of my favorite things about this book though was the family bond that the MacKilligan sisters and the Dunn siblings have. They protect each other and know they can rely on one another. Berg was the perfect partner for Charlie because he understood her bond with her sisters and her determination to keep them safe. Also Berg’s sister Britta was a great side character and I kind of want to read her book. We also get a glimpse of some of the previous couples from the Pride series which was fun because a lot of them have started families at this point but they are still just as crazy as you expected them to be.
As always with a Laurenston story, I really enjoyed the ridiculous antics and craziness of her characters. She creates great stories and characters that are perfect for when you need to laugh or smile at a crazy story. Overall, this was a great start to a new series and I can’t wait to read the other sisters books.
*** My reviews are my honest opinion and I leave them where, how, and when I choose to***
I don’t get a chance very often to binge-read these days like I’d like to, so when I find a series I can really get into it makes me very happy. Hot and Badgered is the so-action-packed-your-heart-races and laugh-out-loud-funny first installment in Shelly Laurenston’s The Honey Badger Chronicles. And man, oh man. At one point I was laughing so hard I could barely see the screen. But above and beyond the excellent ribbon of snarky humor running throughout, this is an attention-grabbing story. Three half-sisters who really don’t fit in with most other shifters and whose father is…well, not the most reliable or stable person in their world, to put it mildly. The sisters must depend on themselves and each other through some extreme circumstances, and what an unexpected ride.
How much did I like this book? I immediately went and scooped up and read the other two, that’s how much. It’s worth your time, trust me.
Any book by Laurenston is fantastic!
Too unrealistic
I just love the characters in her stories. All the little quirks in the behavior make me laugh. I can’t put the story down once I start, reading into the night until I’m to the end.
My first SL book but it won’t be my last. Fun & great characters.
I was sucked in from the beginning.
To see the relationship Charlie has with her sisters reminds me of my relationship with my sister’s.
She’s s that take no crap alpha female that will do anything she has to to protect her sister’s it’s just beautiful.
I’d say her and Berg was love at first sight but not lol.
To see Charlie and Bergs progression as the story goes on it sucks you in even more to the story so much that wanna keep reading it until you get to the end to see what happens.
If you like a story about a heroine that will take on the world to protect her family whither blood or she just calls you family, than this is definitely the story for you.
Book one in the Honey Badger Chronicles series another well written story by Shelly Laurenston. I really have to look at my bookshelves more, this was in the pile on my nightstand. I see there are now more in this series which I will be buying. This book had me laughing from the start. It’s not every day that a beautiful naked woman falls out of the sky and lands face-first on grizzly shifter Berg Dunn’s hotel balcony. Definitely they don’t usually hop up and demand his best gun. That is the way he meets honey badger shifter Charlie Taylor-MacKilligan. I will say do not start reading this book at bedtime as I could not put it down.
I wanted to branch out from the usual PNR I read and I’d heard good things about this. I wasn’t let down. This was frenetic from start to finish. Always some wackiness going on. It wasn’t as steamy as I was expecting it to be, but all the action and craziness almost made up for it.
I’m very interested to pick up the next in this series about 3 honey badger shifter sisters and their crazy family. A wild time was had by me. For sure.
I love Shelly, I have been reading her series and each one is better than the last. I recommend starting with Mane Event and keep reading through each series as it branches off from the beginning series. The badger series is especially fun. The dialog is crisp and snarky, the reader nails the irony. I believe, if you love Janet Evanovich and Stephanie Plum you will love the badger series as well.
I’m not sure what Shelly Laurenston is up to but every female character in her shifter books just gets stronger and stranger with each book. They are all feisty and competent in their own very individual ways and each one has her own snarky attitude. Charlie though is different. She is a shifter who cannot shift and is still the biggest baddest one out there. The book begins with her pulling a Mrs. Peel type stunt with black ops following her with ill intent while NAKED! The rest of the book manages to keep up to that level of improbable yet funky behaviour. I loved it!
I loved this book the characters were great. The story very entertaining
Fun shifter romance by one of the best.
OMG! I was up late reading this book. It was a little confusing at the beginning but once I got into the book I didn’t want to stop (I have to work sometime 🙂
This is worth the read as well as the follow up book and I am currently waiting on the third book in this series to be released.
I wish I had these women as friends they kick @$$.
If you want fun, crazy, fast paced and laugh out loud enjoyment – this is a great book.
