“Deliciously sexy, emotionally gripping… Hostage rocked my whole world.”~Marni Mann, author of SIGNEDI’d never even kissed a boy the night I met Stone. The night I saw him kill. The night he spared my life. That was only the beginning. He turns up in my car again and again, dangerous and full of raw power. “Drive,” he tells me, and I have no choice. He’s a criminal with burning green eyes, … He’s a criminal with burning green eyes, invading my life and my dreams.
The police say he’s dangerously obsessed with me, but I’m the one who can’t stop thinking about him. Maybe it’s wrong to let him touch me. Maybe it’s wrong to touch him back.
Maybe these twisted dates need to stop. Except he feels like the only real thing in my world of designer labels and mansions.
So I drive us under threat, until it’s hard to remember I don’t want to be there.
Until it’s too late to turn back.
HOSTAGE is a dangerous standalone romance by New York Times bestselling authors Skye Warren and Annika Martin. It’s set in the same world as PRISONER, but can read separately!
“Fast paced and oh so addicting!” – #1 NYT bestselling author Rachel Van Dyken

It’s forbidden, suspenseful, emotionally-charged, thought-provoking, and damn sexy–everything I love in a dark romance. And boy do I love this book. It can be read as a stand-alone, but PRISONER is just as gripping. Do yourself a favor and read both.
This book opens with a bang and doesn’t stop. I loved the tragedy that sets the story into motion, and the writing of Skye Warren and Annika Martin is top notch. Definitely recommend you give it a look! xx
Deliciously sexy, emotionally gripping. . . Hostage rocked my whole world
Cinq étoiles sombres! Ce livre est une expérience hallucinante pour un Amant de Romance Sombre. Laissez Stone vous ruiner.
“He’s a dark diamond. Green eyes bright and hard.”
If you search the definition of perfection, you will find a picture of the cover of this book. Hostage is a masterpiece written by two talented ladies: “The Queen of Dark Romance Queen”, aka Skye Warren and Annika Martin, aka “The Princess of Rom-Com”. Such talented writers delivered a unique and twisted piece of heaven.
My mind was literally blown away. I love every word, every sentence, every paragraph; everything was perfection. I couldn’t put it down. I devoured it like a starved bookworm. Books like this feed the dark side in me. I spent a wonderful time. It twisted my insides in a delicious way. (The darker, the better)
“I’m a sacrifice, kneeling at the feet of a beautiful, brutal demon.”
My heart and soul were tortured because of the complexity of the story. The plot is stunningly darkish. The characters are complex and watching them falling for each other was like watching an avenging Angel falling for a pure Little Bird.
“This pure, perfect girl dropped into the middle of my hell, trapped and strapped, under the total and utter control of a predator.”
There are many types of monsters in the dark. They hurt without thinking just to fulfil the darkest pleasure their bodies need. They don’t have a soul neither a heart. Power and pleasure seduce them like a mermaid’s song. Men with depravity and power are the worst monsters that can exist on earth. Those monsters deserve to be murdered in dark because they ruin everything with their dirty claws.
The hero of this story is a murder. Stone is the damaged Knight, a survivor, a fighter, an avenging angel. He had an awful past like his brothers. He is focused on making all those who hurt him and his brothers pay with blood. The things they suffer are unspoken and painful. They were treated worse than animals. Stone is the one who can fight the monsters who hide in the darkness.
“He’s dangerous to me because he opens the lid of the box, because he lets me see what’s outside. He’s the sun, a burning ball so bright it can blind me, and I don’t even care. I want more. I’ll do anything to feel more, even if it means I burn.”
On the other hand we have a pure heroine, a little bird who is suffocated by her family. She is trapped in a golden cage. Her duty is to sacrifice herself for her family. She doesn’t feel real until she met Stone. He makes her feel alive. He will ruin her but it will worth it. He is cold and hot. Stone intrigued her. He is more than a bad boy, he is her savior.
“I’m kneeling in front of this strong, beautiful man who sees himself as a monster.”
Brooke and Stone will learn together. She is brightness and purity. He is darkness and harshness. Stone is afraid to ruin her but Brooke is stronger than he thinks. She is the one who will soften the hard edges that imprison and tortured him.
“I’m the winter nobody ever saw coming.”
I highly recommend you this book. Hostage is an all-consuming book wrapped in an elegant and beautiful cover. It has the darkish touches of Skye and the poetic and deep connection that only Annika can create. The combination of their talents is a mind-blowing experience. This book is the kind of book that left you wanting more, the kind that you can’t put it down until you finished it. It is a must read you must not miss. There are not enough stars to rate this book because it deserves millions. Let Stone ruin you.
4.5 stars!
I was SO excited to read Hostage by Skye Warren and Annika Martin as Prisoner was a favorite of mine. It was action-packed with a suspenseful theme that honestly had me hooked. I loved Brooke and Stone. In a way their relationship could be considered taboo/unconventional but I honestly thought it was delicious and sexy. There was something about one another that kept drawing each other back. I honestly could not get enough.
While Hostage is in the same world as Prisoner and runs somewhat parallel to Grayson and Abby’s story, it is a complete standalone. I loved this story. I thought Stone was dangerous and addicting. I loved his connection to Brooke and despite starting out on scary circumstances, they were always in each other’s thoughts, consequences be damned.
I loved that Hostage continued the same storyline in book one where Stone and his crew were on an ongoing quest for vengeance. But when Brooke Carson unknowingly gets caught in the crossfire and gets kidnapped by Stone Keaton, she makes an impression on him. Since that fateful day there was no turning back for either of them. But when secrets and lies come to light will Stone allow his bloodthirsty quest for vengeance to reign supreme over his feelings for Brooke?
I thought this novel was great and enjoyed their hot chemistry and banter. I loved that Brooke saw through Stone’s hard exterior and he likewise saw who she was inside and past the facade she put out to the world. This novel was fantastic and I can’t wait for more from these talented authors! Bravo! 4.5 Stars! ~Ratula
Hostage is captivating and brimming with passion! Stone and Brooke have undeniable chemistry! An unforgettable and passionate love story!
Hostage (Criminals and Captives #2) was a great read by Skye Warren and Annika Martin. Brooke had never been with a boy, let alone kissed one until she met Stone. The night they met, she saw him kill someone and he spared her life. Stone continues to show up in her car even after they parted ways. She shouldn’t be attracted to him but she feels a pull to him everytime he shows up. I enjoyed reading Brooke and Stone’s story and can’t wait to read more by the authors. Jacob Morgan and Lauren Sweet did a great job of bringing life to the characters.
Hostage is the second book in the Criminals & Captives Series, a dark romantic suspense. This is my favorite story in the Series. You can listen to this story as a standalone, but I highly recommend you to listen to the first book before (Grayson’s story). Stone and Brooke’s story is complex, intense, intriguing, and captivating. The secondary characters are intriguing. The brotherhood between the men is wonderful. I wish to have the story of each of them. Lauren Sweet and Jacob Morgan did an amazing job with the narration. If you like dark romance, this one is for you. I loved it! #AudiobookObsession
Wow!! I absolutely loved this dark and twisted tale. It is book two in the series but I haven’t read book one and I wasn’t confused.
This one is definitely not your average love story. Stone and Brooke meet under the worst possible circumstances and I admit I was kind of scared at times of the level of violence and horrific history of some of the characters. But, and it’s a big but, the horrors covered in this story are very much a reality for people and the authors were brave to explore such a dark subject.
Amongst the violence and fear is a really beautiful love story. A broken man who falls for an innocent. It’s a raw slowburn kind of story and not for the faint of heart.
Definitely recommend if you like your books dark.
Wow, what wonderful book. I hope these two authors are thinking of a 3rd soon!
definitely a different kinda of book, but i totally enjoyed it!!
“But without the darkness, there’s nothing left inside me. I’m hollow.”
#MindBlown is how I feel after reading this incredible book. This series has made it to my #Favorites list which only applies to a very small percentage of books that I’ve read. I’m very drawn to broken bad boys, and this series has my cup and my heart running over. While Prisoner and Hostage are part of the Criminals & Captives series, they can be read as standalones. They take place during the same time period and share some characters. I guarantee that reading either or both will have you joining the crew and hanging on every word.
Stone has hardened his heart out of necessity. He doesn’t trust anyone other than his brothers. He’s learned this the hard way. He uses women to scratch an itch, and names aren’t even necessary. He has something more important on his mind, vengeance. He wasn’t looking for her, she found him. She saw too much. She witnessed his crime and she became his obsession. He knew it was a risk to let her live, but for the first time, taking a life didn’t feel right. She didn’t deserve it like the others. She deserved so much more than him, but he couldn’t stay away from her.
She was at the wrong place at the wrong time. Hiding out from her obligations, resting her fake smile muscles. She wasn’t looking for trouble, but she found it. Trouble that she couldn’t lie her way out of or smile through. Trouble with striking green eyes that compelled her to forget her own name. Trouble that followed her into her dreams and became her obsession.
The forbidden attraction between the dangerous man and the dutiful daughter was breaking all the rules. Yes, even criminals have rules, they have to be careful to protect their freedom. They can’t risk sharing secrets and especially not feelings. And dutiful daughters wear the latest fashion and receive the most sought-after invitations. The two don’t go together. One seeks to remain hidden and the other is always the center of attention. But you know what they say about opposite’s attracting, right? Well, what they say about obsession is true also, and the attraction between them might be the last thing either of them want, but it’s beyond their ability to contain. And this reader was guilty of standing by with a match ready to ignite the sparks bouncing between them. But alas, my services were not required. Chemistry took care of it, BOOM!
These authors are magic together and I hope they continue to collaborate. Separately they have devious minds, when they put their heads together, they become word wizards. They stirred their cauldron of spells and kept me entranced from beginning to end, unable to look away, unwilling to put it down. As the suspense built and the passion flared they took me on a ride, but they didn’t have to tell me to drive, this reader was a willing captive ready to go wherever they directed. I’ll be anxiously awaiting our next encounter, engine running, no GPS required. The line forms here…
4.5 stars
Hostage is nothing and everything you would expect from these two talented and twisted authors. To say I’m biased might be true but only because I’ve devoured their books. I have yet to read one that didn’t have me highly entertained or on the edge of my seat.
Maybe I’m biased because I like the damaged bad boys.
Maybe it’s because I look for light in the darkness.
Maybe it’s because I’m a hopeless romantic…
Whatever the reason, I loved Hostage. I love the fear, the desperation, and of course the vigilante justice. There are few things in this world that get my blood thirst active…but people that harm kids is my number one. Do I condone certain behaviors…no…but do I understand- Hell yes! Would I have reacted the same…this isn’t the time to share my story. 😉
Hostage is a dark trail that runs along side a blackened highway. It’s not quite as dark as you might think but it isn’t exactly fluffy unicorns.
It’s intense. It’s raw and it’s exactly what you needed to happen. Hostage is second in the series but you can read it first like I did with no problems following at all. You will scramble to read Prisoner though if you haven’t already.
This BOOK BLEW MY MIND!! SPEECHLESS!!! Best Book of 2018 that I’ve read so far!! I LOVED that it was set in the same setting we learned about in Prisoner. I CAN’T WAIT for the next book in this AMAZING Series! Skye Warren and Annika Martin are two FANTASTIC authors and when they collaborate together it’s MAGIC!!
MY REVIEW ON GOODREADS AND AMAZON AND MY BLOG AND WEBSITE
I PULLED ANOTHER ALL NITER WITH THIS ONE, COULD NOT PUT IT DOWN
HOSTAGE is an ABSOLUTE FANTASTICALLY GOOD BOOK
A standalone romance by New York Times bestselling authors Skye Warren and Annika Martin. It’s set in the same world as PRISONER, but can be read separately
Stone has been through more than most people could survive. He can not afford any entanglements and when Brooke stumbles onto him beating a man to death, he needs to protect himself and his family. He should kill her, but something about her calls to a part of himself he has hurried deep.
Brooke should be terrified of Stone. He’s a cold blooded murderer and after seeing his dark side, she should be trying to get as far from him as possible. There is a secret part of herself that Stone’s cold and dark edges brings to life. Her mind may be telling her to stay away, but her heart is saying something different.
Stone and Brooke’s story is complicated, dark, emotional and one of my favorites I have read so far this year. They were instantly under my skin and I was a drawn to them as they were to each other. I’ll be seeking out Prisoner now and will be looking forward to revisiting this dark world in future stories.
Raw, abrasive, hauntingly dark that consumes you. Hostage by New York Times best selling authors Sky Warren and Annika Martin have delivered a beautifully-damaged dark addition to the Criminals & Captives series and I couldn’t be happier.
Sky Warren has always written captivating tales, developed characters and plots so thick it leaves you mesmerized. But for her to pair up with the talented Annika Martin… watch out! These two EPIC authors are a dynamic duo and this addition, this series, only proves it. Both women publish top notch novels that are always hands down one-clickers!
4.5 stars
I found myself completely mesmerized by this story and these characters from the very first chapter.
The authors have assured us that, even though this is the second book in this story about the boys in the basement, each novel may be read as a standalone. I confess that I have not read Prisoner and some of the events in Hostage happen simultaneously to the plot of Prisoner, however, true to their word, not having read it did not diminish my experience with Hostage. Rest assured I will go back and read it now.
This is Stone’s story. He’s their ‘family’ leader. He’s complex and damaged. We get to see how he lives, how he survived and how he helped them survive, how seriously he takes his sense of leadership and responsibility and most importantly how he learns to change and love. Enter, more like ‘take’ the lovely, young, sheltered and inexperienced Brooke. Literally, sweet sixteen and never been kissed, Stone goes against everything that he’s known, everything that he is and Brooke soon becomes the very object of his obsession.
Stone exists on one thing, his mission of hate and revenge and when he discovers Brooke has secrets that may help lead the boys out of their dark and dangerous existence, he must choose between his ‘family pact’ or the one thing he never imagined himself worthy of.
Hostage is sometimes dark and scary and sometimes heartwarming and tender, your emotions will certainly get a work out. I highly recommend you take this journey.
Pleasant to read.
Brooke is 16 today, her birthday.
In her Givenchy cocktail dress, she’s about to have a good evening.
She smiles under the flash of the photos because nothing is more important than apparences…
Much later in the evening, Brooke is on the verge of tears and escapes into the back room and exits the building through a back door…
———————
A very addicting novel to read that tells the mysterious and intriguant story of an encounter totally due to chance.
Here is the captivating story of these two opposing characters who should never have met…
A volume 2 pleasant to read, different from the first volume, and which plunges you into a very exotic universe.
A book to discover.
I loved it! It is wrong and right at the same time.
Very thought provoking about the forgotten children and how one of those children takes charge and becomes the leader in his early teens and makes a commitment to find all those responsible for the conditions the children are made to live. Each child dealt with it differently but they vowed that no other child would be subjected to those conditions again. Murder…until Stone finds someone that he cares about…someone who got into his heart and showed his that he could be loved by Brooke. She never forgot him. Very thought provoking, touching, sensual.
It was dark and twisted and hard to read some times but by the end you knew that Hunter and Evie were in a special relationship and needed each other.
