The Enforcer’s Oath: Protect the club at all costs.
Jackal made an enemy out of Penni when he kidnapped her years ago. He let her go, never imagining she would take a piece of his soul with her. Now protecting Penni against a former brother will force him to place the club against her once again.
She may be the Hostage, but he’s the one held captive by the lust she refuses to admit binds them … admit binds them together.
She thinks The Last Riders and another man will be all the protection she needs to end the tug of war between them. However, he’s never lost a battle, especially against a tiny blonde with an attitude, begging him to teach her that her place is under him.
To end the battle, he’s going to have to reclaim the piece of soul she stole from him or claim a part of her soul as prisoner.
When a predator takes you hostage, you’re his forever.

3.5 Stars! I have been anticipating Penni and Jackal’s story since he kidnapped her in the beginning. They sparked against each with every interaction they had and I was looking forward to the explosion.
Summary:
Jackal made an oath to his club, and he takes it very seriously. They saved him once upon a time, and he returns that gift with his undying loyalty and protection. He even made an enemy of Penni upholding that oath, and he’d do it again, if maybe a bit gentler the second time around. He never anticipated having a piece of his soul snatched by the fiery vixen. He’s determined to pin her down in a much more pleasurable way this time. But it’s only bad luck that has him protecting Penni against a former brother, pitting his club against her once again. Penni thinks The Last Riders and another man is all she needs for protection, but Jackal has other plans. Penni belongs to him, and he’s not about to lose the battle that will see Penni underneath him. A Predator doesn’t give up his prey once they’ve captured them. Penni will learn that lesson one way or another.
Penni and Jackal’s story ended up being more explosive than anticipated. A lot ended up happening both with them as a couple and between and with the clubs. I liked Penni a lot in previous books, and was looking forward to getting to know her better. She wasn’t what I imagined, but not in a bad way. Penni was loving, loyal, charismatic, and caring. Exactly as I knew she’d be. But she was also a lot more like Shade then I’d ever thought possible, but in different ways. It was nothing bad, just a surprise. My only criticism was that I wished she wasn’t a complete hellion to Jackal for the majority of the book. Other than that, I loved her spunk. Jackal was exactly as I imagined. Protective, loyal, determined, and a bit of a womanizer. I loved his pursuit of Penni, though. It showed a softer side that was just for her. As a couple, they were explosive. A lot of the time, they were at odds, and Pennie had Jackal working for every inch gained. It was entertaining to read, although, I wouldn’t have minded if Jackal pushed a little more. The chemistry between them made for some pretty steamy scenes and I actually didn’t mind the parallels made to Shade and Lily’s romance. Overall, Hostage was just an okay story. Penni and Jackal’s part in it was entertaining because Penni is at least a little bit crazy with Jackal not far behind her, but the rest of the storyline was a little convoluted. The obstacles in the way were more a re-emergence of past problems. While it affected the relationship, there are still a lot of things that were left unsaid and unsolved. I did appreciate seeing so much supporting cast from so many different series in this world. It really brought all the clubs and outside allies together, and it was a glorious thing to behold. I’m looking forward to more from all the series, but especially Train and Killyama’s book.
YAY! Penni & Jackal finally got their turn!! Their story was jam-packed with action, temper-tantrums, sexual tension & some of Jamie Begley’s most-talked-about characters!! *cough* The Last Riders *cough* It felt so good to get back to the Predators, even if most of Hostage seemed like it took place AWAY from Queen City!
I LOVED Jackal & Penni as a couple. They had great chemistry together (although I wanted MORE sex) & their banter was fun & entertaining. It’s amazing how much these characters changed throughout the book. They started out explosive; full of lust, hatred, arrogance, sass & stubbornness… And they ended in soul mate mode; full of warm, fuzzy duckies-&-swan-love, loads of forgiveness & more playful, easy-going attitudes. Dare I say they ended up like slightly “watered-down” versions of the Jackal & Penni we’d grown to know & love? Nothing wrong with them, just different, more mild… maybe some call it more mature? I don’t know for sure.
Penni was a HUGE surprise for me. I wasn’t expecting the bottled up rage, the secret crush or her later VERY forgiving nature. I admired Penni’s tenacity in wanting to get her man back (yes, there is a bit of separation between the two later on in the book) but I was super surprised with how it played out. Even after most of the beans were spilled, she still remained somewhat of an enigma to me.
I LOVED watching Jackal chase Penni & LOVED learning just how much she affected him (who doesn’t like to get inside a Hero’s head, am I right?) but man, that damn Predator Oath… I just can’t take that stupid thing anymore! Didn’t he learn ANYTHING from Ice’s downfall in Riot? Your woman does NOT need to take a back seat to your club to prove that “you’re the man” or whatever. On a happier note: the piercings rocked, the spankings were wicked & the later on celibacy thing really stoked my fire! 🙂
One thing happened in this book that I just can’t get over… and it had to do with The Last Riders. The original eight members ticked me off big time with an idiotic decision they made (one they didn’t even bother to vote on) concerning one of the other members. I’m not going to name names since that’d spoil a juicy plot point but with all the crap the original eight members spew about loyalty & trust, this decision does NOT sit well with me. At. All. Hopefully, it’ll be addressed in the next Last Rider book!
Odds & Ends:
*Is it Ginny or Genny because in ALL of the past books where she was mentioned, it was Ginny but in this book, it was Genny. Either way, I like where things are heading for her! Awesome change of scenery!!
*Mag- You were freakin’ hilarious woman! Thank you for that!!
*Grace’s “development”- Why did that need to happen? I’m hoping it’s a set-up for a future storyline because I just didn’t get it otherwise.
*Winter & Viper- So, are we getting a novella for them before Train’s Clash comes out or what? *hint hint*
*No Predator club wh*** or stripper drama? I was almost positive there’d be some Crush or Juliet smackdowns! Nuts.
*Editing- Feel like it could’ve used another run through with the editor… Found lots of spelling/grammatical errors that made it a bit distracting to read at times.
Now, the countdown is on for the MOST ANTICIPATED book of the series… Train’s Clash! CANNOT WAIT to unravel the mysteries that are Train & Killyama!!
I loved this book. Penny and Jackel are a favorite of mine.
