From the New York Times best-selling author of The Southern Book Club’s Guide to Slaying Vampires comes a hilarious and terrifying haunted house story in a thoroughly contemporary setting: a furniture superstore.Something strange is happening at the Orsk furniture superstore in Cleveland, Ohio. Every morning, employees arrive to find broken Kjerring bookshelves, shattered Glans water goblets, and … shattered Glans water goblets, and smashed Liripip wardrobes. Sales are down, security cameras reveal nothing, and store managers are panicking.
To unravel the mystery, three employees volunteer to work a nine-hour dusk-till-dawn shift. In the dead of the night, they’ll patrol the empty showroom floor, investigate strange sights and sounds, and encounter horrors that defy the imagination.

Nightmare in a ikea-like store. Without the Swedish meatballs!
Interesting concept book. Would have been better if the diagrams were actually readable on the Nook, as the building layout was critical to the storyline in many places. I liked the social commentary – past and present. Pacing was excellent. Characters were believable. Weakness was that the plot veered into the totally unbelievable. It would have been a stronger book if the author had showed some restraint in the more fantastic plot chapters. Clever ending.
This was a great Cthulhuianesq story. The description of the big box store made me LOL. A very entertaining and scary story.
This was not at all what I expected it to be, I am so glad I read this. This terrified me and I really cannot pinpoint which part did it in for me. Grady Hendrix wrote this in such a way that I really felt I was right there with the characters. This story definitely had my heart pounding at certain points in the story. Just imagine getting lost in a store and then imagine it being haunted this is Horrorstör! If your on the fence about this one, like I was, just give it a try but leave a light on.
Think big blue store with yellow letters. The one where you have to follow a path that leads you from one department to the next and where, by the time you get to the end of the winding tour, you’ve put more stuff in your cart than you expected. Now imagine that place haunted with a power unexplained and unexpected. And THEN, add some humor and characters you recognize from your own work experience and life. Horrorstor starts as a fun romp and ends with some serious consequences. A well drawn out mystery and horror story with a bit of a roller coaster emotional ride.
Horrorstor by Grady Hendrix is a chilling horror novel. It’s neither too long, or too short. The story is full of humor, creating an atmosphere that is dark, but not too dark to be an enjoyable read. The suspense was intense throughout the book, making it hard to set the book down. The length of the story keeps it moving fast and there wasn’t a spot where it lagged. The characters were all distinctive from each other and the main character, Amy, was easy to relate to. The book was made to look like an IKEA catalog. The layout of the book added to the reading experience nicely. This book is definitely worth a read, or more than one.
Not at all what I expected but I loved it!
An interesting premise…unique setup but still silly
This is definitely an original premise for a book but I just couldn’t get into it. Long and very boring.
Enjoyable. Fun read.
Very slow starter. The Ikea-named furniture gets old and redundant. Fair amount of scares about 3/4 of the way through. It’s a very quick, easy read.
Interesting read.
This was a really fun book, with an original concept. I enjoyed this.
