Beautiful how love can blossom from being a mail order bride. Does memory loss take all that away…. surely she comes ’round to ‘memberin’ before winter hits without any….dunt… dunt dunt …. trouble… what lurks around the corner? Must read!
– Living and loving can be hard! Living through the death of a spouse or dealing with suicide are hard things. Loving someone for who they really are can be almost impossible. Susannah not only had to deal with the shame and guilt of losing her first husband to crime and suicide, but she then had to mourn for him. Though she loved him she still had to come to terms with who and what he really was. David adored his first wife and wanted that again but instead ended up with a wife totally unlike his first. He had to love and accept Susannah for the unique person she was by setting aside his bad habit of comparing his two wives. Once David and Susannah were able to wade through all their conflicting emotions and memories, they were able to forge a love and marriage even stronger than what they had before.
Such a great story! Fabulous series, although can be read as a stand alone. The characters are so easy to like that they just pull you in. I loved how easy the story flowed, I just couldn’t but this book down! So excited for the next book in this series.
Was given a complimentary copy. All opinions are my own.
I must confess that historical romance is not usually the genre that I choose to read, but the premise of the book enticed me to read it. Susannah Eversoll’s husband of twenty years committed suicide, so she reluctantly offers to be a mail-order bride, taking her adult daughter Melissa to Oregon with her. Once there, Susannah fulfills her obligation to marry David, but she seems resigned to live without love and to take care of his two rambunctious boys whom she was not prepared to care for. One night, Susannah and David go to the town’s skating party and everything changes when Susannah is hurt and suffers from amnesia. David continues to hope that Susannah will regain her memory and we begin to see that he really cares for her. There are a couple of mysteries woven into the story, one of which threatens David and Susannah’s new marriage. I enjoyed the book because the pace was quick and the characters were sympathetic and believable. The few twists that were included certainly added to the story for me! Fans of historical romance will enjoy this clean read.
