A Relentlessly Sexy, Angst Filled, and Unapologetic Story of Undeniable Love…
After several months of reading endless amounts of blah, I have been on a bit of a Penny Wylder kick again. Why you ask? Because unlike other authors Wylder pens wonderfully layered and thoughtful stories about forbidden love that are as emotionally intense as they are blisteringly erotic. All while maintaining a fairly easy-going writing style that can be devoured in a single sitting, giving you the ability to escape into the lush and vivid story worlds of all things taboo.
Regardless of your preferred flavor of “forbidden” Wylder almost never disappoints, and this book is another perfect example of the smoldering, heartfelt magic that only Wylder can create. “Hooking Up with My Dad’s Best Friend” is far more complex than the title implies. This much older man/younger woman, best friend of my father tale is both unapologetically sensual and thought provoking.
Here Wylder presents us with the story of Katti and Bryce, Katti being a twenty-five year old book store owner running from the ghosts of her past. Ghosts that involve her long harbored feelings for Bryce, the much older man and best friend of her father’s. A man for whom she has spent years dreaming about and longing for, concealing feelings so intense she flees from her hometown after graduating college to try and start over far away from the man she loves in order to protect him and her father from the fallout of her forbidden desires. And Bryce, the forty-nine year old object of Katti’s desire, an intense and uncontrollable love, that unbeknownst to Katti herself, Bryce shares for her in return. However, he (along with her family) are left behind in the confusing dust of Katti’s unexplained departure years earlier, and it isn’t until a chance encounter on a dating app that they are brought face to face after almost five years apart and the truth of the events at hand are found out.
What follows is rollercoaster of emotional turmoil. A glimpse of chemistry between two people so intense it dares to completely consume them both. Every word of dialog between Katti and Bryce sears itself into your soul. You literally feel the fiery lust between them on your fingertips as you turn each and every page. Here once again, Wylder paints a love connection so intense you are unable to look away for even a millisecond! Beyond their chemistry, the level of despair and worry Katti holds for both Bryce and her Father makes your heart ache for her. A realization quickly forming that so concerned is this young woman for how the mere appearance of them together would affect the people around her, she’d rather doom herself to a lifetime of unhappiness than chance causing one moment of pain and/or discomfort for Bryce or their family and friends.
Beyond the scorching eroticism, this book is also a stark reminder of how horrifically affecting societal norms and opinions can be. How these uninvited and unwarranted views can affect the very fabric of one’s soul and cause untold emotional harm. An intelligently written reminder that in order to be truly happy one must follow their own heart, and their own truth, the world around them, and other people’s opinions be damned!
This one is just plain gorgeous, contains an explosively addicting couple, and is easily my favorite of Wylder’s thus far!
A steamy and sexy quick read with a younger girl (25) and an older man (49) who just happens to be friends with her dad. Both have been attracted to the other for years but never acted on it. This is quite a hot read as these two get to know each other. Drama, self doubt, lots of steamy scenes and an eventual HEA makes this a good read!!
WOW…Penny has created another outstanding read! Katti, a book store owner, has been attracted to Bryce, a British businessman who is her father’s best friend, for years. Katti moved away from her hometown to avoid contact with Bryce so as to not hurt her dad with her feelings for Bryce. She signs on to a dating app to seek outa new love interest. She is matched to Bryce which starts their journey to romance and love. They both know there are many obstacles in their way, but Bryce is committed to Katti.
This story of forbidden love is well written, dramatic, intense, and filled with steamy passion. Penny Wylder has written another amazing novel. I strongly recommend the purchase of this outstanding book.
I received an arc in return for an honest and voluntary review.
Good romance
Good romance, very hot, with good characters who fight for their beliefs in the access to care and patient care in a private hospital in the United States. The story is well written, but a little predictable.
Good romance in which I liked the main character, Maggie, newly nurse, who is trapped by the influence of her father, director of a hospital, who wants her to work for him until she has paid back her study costs, to the detriment of patients and the workload of her colleagues. He forces her to deal only with rich patients which goes against her convictions.
At the hospital, she finds Russ, the best friend of her father by whom she has always been attracted. She also discovers a man with convictions similar to hers and she also discovers that this attraction is reciprocal, he understands her and supports her in her objectives.
