Amalie Whitfield is the picture of a blushing bride during her wedding reception-but for all the wrong reasons. Instead of proclaiming his undying love, her husband can be heard, by Amalie and their guests, getting off with someone else. She has every reason to freak out, and in a moment of insanity, she throws herself at the first hot-blooded male she sees. But he’s not interested in becoming … her revenge screw.
Mortified and desperate to escape the post-wedding drama, Amalie decides to go on her honeymoon alone, only to find the man who rejected her also heading to the same tiny island for work. But this time he isn’t holding back. She should know better than to sleep with someone she knows, but she can’t seem to resist him.
They might agree that what happens on the island should stay on the island, but neither one can deny that their attraction is more than just physical.
Filled with hilariously scandalous situations and enough sexual chemistry to power an airplane from New York City to the South Pacific, Hooking Up is the next standalone, laugh-out-loud romantic comedy from Helena Hunting, the New York Times bestselling author of the Pucked series and Shacking Up.

I thought it was an easy read and interesting story. I like it.
Another amazing read! I absolutely loved this one. It has heat and sexy with a little sweet, which is what Amie needs. Thrown in a dash of angst and you’ll devour this in a sitting. Highly recommend this book. A must read.
This book kind of surprised me!! I kind of wish certain events would have ended sooner in the book though but I would recommend this book to anyone that wants a surprisingly sexy characters..
Hooking Up is the perfect read when you just want to escape into something fun, sweet and sexy. Poor Amalie has just gotten married. Literally, just gotten married, and is at her reception when the sounds of her husband’s infidelity are broadcast for the entire building to hear. Yeah…I was cringing for poor Amalie. I can’t imagine something more horrifying. But, does Amalie let it get her down? Nope. She goes off on her honeymoon alone, determined to escape what is surely to be some serious drama back at home. While at the airport she spots Lex (Lexington), her best friend’s fiancé’s older brother and the man at whom she threw herself right after hearing her husband cheating on her with his date at their reception. The man who gently rejected her. The man with whom her cheating husband has a long-standing rivalry. The man who happens to be her cheating husband’s cousin. Yikes!
As they discover, and indulge in, their attraction to each other while on Bora Bora, I was cheering for them, because if anyone deserved loved and happiness with each other, it is these two. Lex is so sweet with Amalie, and she honestly never should have ended up with Armstrong (cheating husband) anyway, considering that it was Lex who was gently flirting with her when Armstrong strong-armed his way into her life. I was seriously annoyed at Armstrong for his ridiculous behavior, but Lex more than made up for it and gave Amalie all the love (and steamy times) she needed and deserved.
If you like your romance heavy on the steam, light on the angst, but sweet and fun, 1-click Hooking Up today. Helena Hunting has never let me down, and Hooking Up is no exception.
A great author of a great book.
Hooking Up is a MUST READ. When I first read about Lexington in Shacking Up, I knew he would become a character that I would want more of. Amie & Lex have undeniable connection that will have you rooting for them. Armstrong ugh is vile and will definitely have you hating on him. How Lex treats Amie will have you swooning and their sex is scorching hot. Another amazing read that you will not want to put down.
I forgot that I had this sitting on my kindle since it came out. I liked Amalie in Shacking up, I was glad to see that there was going to be a book about her. Lex and Amalie are super hot together. Man oh man, did those two have fun with her box of toys. Loved everything that happened in Bora Bora. Overall it was cute and fun!
I expected nothing less than perfect from Helena and that is exactly what I got. I have been clamming for a book about Amie since Ruby’s. After reading Eye Candy I had high hopes for the hero.
Without giving much away if you’ve read Shacking Up then you already hate Armstrong and dare I say Brittany. But after this you just really really loath the guy. We never do get the satisfaction of his complete demise. A glimpse yes, but we all want him to be just completely gutted. The high points are the dick punches, the small dick references, and the under performance that he gives.
UGH I want to talk about *********. How just absolutely perfect he is. One of the best #bookboyfriends around. But I do not want to give a thing away.
I was completely happy that Amie didn’t go all dark side after that humiliation. That she holds her own at every turn. Though having Gwendolyn get hers would have been nice too.
As with all great books, I want more. I want more beyond what there is. I don’t want to come to my own conclusions about the future I want to “see” the future. I want beyond the HEA.
OH MY GOODNESS! I did not think that this author could get better than the Pucked series and I was so wrong. She slayed me with with this book. Lexington is my new book boyfriend (next to Ares but that is a different author and series). Oh wow! Let;s start with saying if you read Shacking Up the first book in this series you will have met Armstrong and Amie. Yes the stupid. might I even say idiot cousin of Bane, Lex and Griffin. In this book we get to see this here idiot come full circle. His dumbness flys high in at his own wedding and poor Amelia gets to witness it in all the techo sound glory…as well as all their guest. Enter Lexington well seems he was already in the bridal suite “taking care of business” and being the good guy that he is he refuses to take Amelia up on her offer. Oh yes i am talking in riddles here folks but believe me this book is not full of riddles but well written by one of today’s best authors. We learn about friendship and lust, love that comes from that place that one can not deny even if you want to…it simply draws you back to each other like magnets. Is this a “pretty read”? No. Is this a hot read ? YeS. This book had me wanting to find a tattooed guy to trace his ink, go to Bora Bora and skinnydip and just drink champagne on a plane with him.
Wow….this book was amazing!!! I’m so glad that we got more of Amie after being introduced to her in Shacking Up. After seeing a bit of her relationship with Armstrong, you just knew he wasn’t the right guy for her. And after the worst day of her life, here comes Lexington…..and holy hotness, where can I find a Lex for myself? He was just fantastic. Absolutely loved him and how he was with Amie. She deserved to be treated with respect and love, which Lex gave her wholeheartedly. He lost out on a chance once before (no thanks to Armstrong)….and fate gave him a second chance, that he was not going to pass up. They were absolutely perfect for one another – just loved this story so much!!
Audio review from June 2018
I really enjoyed this story. Amelie really deserved better than the man she initially married
The last few lines of the epilogue made me swoon!
She found the right man! 😀
We jump right into the action at Amalie’s wedding and things quickly go from bad to worse. It was clear that Armstrong’s a jerk and he’s awful for her in the previous books so I wish she would’ve figured it out for herself before being publicly humiliated, but I’m just relieved she walks away. It’s an emotional rollercoaster for Amalie, dealing first with her husband’s callous betrayal and then being turned down by the man she propositions. After taking some time to calm down, she decides to go on her honeymoon alone. The solitude is just what she needs, except she’s not alone. The sexy stranger who refused her advances just happens to be on the same plane, headed to the same island and it doesn’t take long for sparks to fly.
They give in pretty quickly but agree this is just an island fling, one that means nothing and won’t continue when they return home. If only it were that simple. Feelings abound but Amalie’s hesitant to open herself up to anyone and understandably so. He wants to give her time and the space she needs to get past everything that has happened, but he can’t stand to be apart. This is a tricky enough situation that’s made more complicated by the fact that Lexington Mills is Armstrong’s cousin and they’ve had a rivalry going all their lives. Armstrong refuses to acknowledge his wrongdoing and insanely believes Amalie should let this go and continue their marriage. He won’t leave her alone and is making her life miserable in many ways, including being one of the biggest obstacles in the way of a relationship with Lex.
Hooking Up is funny and sweet, just like the rest of the series. Amalie was so demure and one-dimensional in the first book, although Ruby kept telling us how Amalie’s fiancé had changed her for the worse. Now we get Anarchy Amie, who hasn’t been let loose in years, but the fierce independent woman inside her can’t stay buried any longer and she finally stands up to Armstrong. Ever vengeful, he plants a seed of doubt, telling her that Lex never wanted her, he just wants to beat Armstrong by stealing his woman.
It should be obvious that Armstrong’s a conniving liar not to be trusted, but Amalie has a history of picking the worst possible men and Lex seems to fit her bad boy ex profile, with his tattoo sleeve and dirty mouth. Is she a prize in their lifelong rivalry or is Lex really the one for her?
This story is a lot more will they/won’t they than Shacking Up and it’s not quite as lighthearted but it’s every bit as good. I’m looking forward to the rest of the series.
Omg really love this story. I’ve been wanting to read it since Shacking Up and Eye candy. It didn’t disapoint. Love Helena’s writing and storyline. Didn’t want it to end
First, the cover *Fanning myself*.
Ok, now that that is out of the way, I loved this book. I like Ami during the first book of the series (this book is standalone but definitely read the first book of this series because you’ll find an even deeper love of the heroine). Initially, my heart broke for her and then, with Lex, it was slowly put back together, although cautiously because I absolutely detested Armstrong and I knew something bad was going to happen. But you know, Helena Hunting is amazing. The story proceeded so beautifully, revealing an authentic way for the relationship to roll out. The story lacked fabricated angst and instead, Helena Hunting wrote a realistic story that highlighted how a messy relationship can unfurl into something so beautiful. It was a wonderful story further accented by the wonderful performance of Jacob Morgan and Muffy Newtown. Overall, I truly enjoyed this story and will be moving on to the third book of this series.
(By the way, I found it especially amusing because I had previously read the 5th book in this series, Handle With Care, even before I read the first book of this series and I had some not nice things to say about Armstrong there too. Although I loved that book too!)
A fun, sweet, sexy steamy book by Helena Hunting. Ami hasn’t had much luck in boyfriends but she thinks she has found her match in Armstrong….too bad she has ignored her gut. When everyone at her wedding reception gets to hear Armstrong cheat on her, she is done with her life. Her best friend Ruby convinces her to go on her “honeymoon” alone. Lex is Armstrong’s cousin and technically met Ami first and even through there seemed to be something between the two of them at first, she picked Armstrong. When they end up on the same plane, he is determined to not pursue Ami and to let her try to heal. I loved Lex so much! He is hot and steamy, but also sweet always thinking about Ami. There were funny parts to the story too (see the TSA scene). I also can say that I can’t express how much I hate Armstrong. Can’t wait to read more in this series.
I can’t say enough good things about this book. Lex is definitely my favorite of the Mills brothers. There’s something about him that warms my heart. He’s both cocky and caring. This book is funny, romantic and superhot. I did find myself angry at times during this book, because Armstrong Can really push my buttons. This is the third time I’ve read this book, and it won’t be the last.
In Hooking Up, we get the story for Lexington (Bane’s brother from Shacking Up) and Amalie (Ruby’s best friend from Shacking Up)…and what a story it is! u2063

Instead of enjoying her wedding reception, Amalie, and all of her guests, hear her husband (assho…I mean, Armstrong) getting…uhhh…serviced by someone else. She runs into Lexington in the bridal suite as she cuts herself out of her dress and throws herself at him. Embarrassed, she decides to go on her honeymoon – alone – only to run into Lex at the airport and realize they’re going to the same place. Classic!u2063

Things I loved:u2063
Lexington – I don’t know what to say other than everyone needs some Lexington in their lives! u2063
Lex’s socks – apparently these brothers have a thing for socks. While I wasn’t a fan of Bane’s, Lex has much better taste and shows his fun side!u2063
Amalie – I loved her confidence! She was definitely not afraid to express what she wanted. Her awkward scene going through airport security was amazing!! u2063
The Steam – here’s where the “holy hell” comes in. This is one of the steamiest books I’ve read! Be prepared for it. If it’s not your thing, you might want to skip this one. Personally, I was here for it! u2063

Things I hated (that’s right, I said hated):u2063
Armstrong – I know I’m supposed to hate him, so good job there, Helena. He deserves every broken nose he got and then some! I haven’t read the upcoming summaries, but I’m really hoping he doesn’t get his own story. u2063

I loved this one and really hope we get to see a glimpse of them in the later books. Oh, and once again, Jacob Morgan’s voice was on point. Do yourself a favor and listen to this one if you can!u2063

I listened to the audiobook. The narration was pretty decent. The book was ok.
I didn’t realize this was the second book in the series until I was more than halfway through it. I’m not sure if it would have been better had I read the books in order.
It was interesting that Amie didn’t figure out any part of her relationship with Armstrong until after she had married him, after the wedding day debacle. Armstrong was a consistently easy person to dislike. There was nothing redeemable about his character.
I liked Lex. I liked him more than Amie and felt like he could have been with someone who appreciated him more. Maybe it was payback for his past, but it seemed like Lex was the one being used by Amie, and he was the one being blamed for using her.
The book lasted a little too long. It gave me a couple of chuckles. I should probably read the first book. It’s on my TBR list.
So great. I love books like this where you get previous characters you’ve read about, but you don’t have to read previous books to understand the premise of the story. This author is perfect at writing amazing stories just like that.
Lexington and Amie had an awkward relationship, due to family issues, but it was meaningful. It was beautiful. It was real. Lots of pressure on things that were happening outside of their relationship, which created issues going forward. But this story was so well-written that it made the story that much better.
This book is a must read. Great story. Great ending.
I listened to the audible version of this book and adored the relationship between Amie and Lex. They were everything that the other didn’t realize they needed. Lex is sweet and understanding of what Amie is going through. They brought out the best of each other. Amie and her suitcase full of fun was hilarious.
You’ll be laughing and plotting ways to remove amie’s ex.
