From New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Aurora Rose Reynolds comes the sizzling final installment to the humorous and heart-filled How to Catch an Alpha series.Anna McAlister needs a new life. But that doesn’t mean she needs a new man. After leaving her fiancé and Chicago behind, she promises herself no dating until she finds what she’s looking for. But meeting one seriously hot and … meeting one seriously hot and determined detective has her questioning herself.
Calvin Miller is that detective, and he’s been burned by women in the past. It’s easy for him to sleep alone and focus on his work, but the moment he lays eyes on Anna, he starts imagining sexy nights with her wrapped in his sheets. Maybe it’s time to get back out there.
But just as the attraction between them begins to sizzle, Anna’s past shows up to create trouble. And to make matters worse, a string of murders forces Calvin to juggle his new relationship and his career. His worst fear? That the two are somehow connected.
Can they find love together, or will her past and his duty sink their hopes?

I loved this story! Anna is trying to start her life over in a small coastal town in South Carolina after realizing how unhappy she was and abandoning everything in Chicago. She tries to deny the attraction to police detective Calvin Miller. They both feel like they aren’t ready to jump into a relationship yet but the attraction is more than they can resist!
“If you take one lesson from today, let it be that you should live every single day of your life like it’s your last. Drink when you want, laugh until your soul is full, open yourself up to falling in love, spend time with people who are important, and enjoy every moment, even the scary ones.”
Hooking Him is a perfect distraction book. It is a sweet and fun small town romance with just a touch of angst.
-5 Stars!-
Hooking Him is book 3 in the “How to Catch an Alpha” series by Aurora Rose Reynolds. This is a standalone read that is told in a dual POV. I do recommend reading the previous books in the series.
Calvin and Anna are simply amazing! The chemistry between them literally sparks off the pages. The story is written perfectly with the right amount of sweetness, romance, heat, feels and then added in to keep the readers enthralled – intrigue, suspense and mystery. Loved it!!!
Anna is a sweetheart- has been hurt in the past but doesn’t let that keep her down. We see she has some moments … but oh she’s got a great character. Sweet, hardworking, and sassy. Calvin is a police detective who is oh so alpha (swoon). He is very hardworking as well, dedicated to his job yet the moment he sees Anna- insta love goodness . The secondary characters add to the story, making this a phenomenal read by Aurora Rose Reynolds. I hope maybe there will be a spin-off of this series and we’ll see these characters again. Calvin and Anna are my favorite, with his swoony Alpha goodness and Anna’s sassiness. This is a must read.
My Rating: 4.8 stars ***********
Anna & Calvin are GREAT!! I love their story! She’s funny & sweet & just searching for her own key to happiness. She finds it in a little southern beach town, a bakery, friends, and LOVE. Calvin starts out a bit prickly, but his true colors shine through. He’s affectionate, swoony, protective… All the things we love in an ARR hero! And of course we have Bane, the awesome doggy companion, Edie & the Golden Girls causing a bit of mayhem, Gus & Chrissie encouraging our current couple’s HEA, and a mystery.
Super fun, quick read w/ just the right amount of steam as well! 10+ stars!! : )
GAHHHH…I loved Anna & Calvin! I think this is my favorite book of the How to Catch an Alpha series so far!!! These two were so adorable. I loved how Calvin was so overprotective, he 100% was the absolute perfect alpha. And Anna was just so awesome. Watching her find her happy after living a life that wasn’t her…it was uplifting.
This book reminded me why I loved ARR. I got the same butterflies and feelings as when I read Until November the first time. It was such a great book!!
Aurora Rose Reynolds does it again! She has created a magic formula with her Alpha Heroes and the sassy fierce heroines, you can’t help but fall in love.
This book is a standalone novel in a series of standalones (I know confusing but limited cross over and can be completely read on its own). The story is told mostly from Anna’s POV but we do get a couple chapters from Calvin’s. I thought the flow and pace of the story worked well. The pace of the story flowed well even this this was a slower burn coming to love relationship.
The story follows Anna and Calvin. Anna works in the same bakery as Chrissie (heroine in book 2). Anna left her life in Chicago to find her happiness. Calvin is a Detective for the local police department and has had his heart broken in the past. Neither of these characters were open to finding love. Anna and Calvin both have experienced heartache and have some trust issues to overcome before they can be all in together. This story is the perfect amount of romance and drama/suspense to make a good read.
Hooking Him was a fast fun and flirty read. I loved the added element of suspense and mystery to this story. This book had me sitting on the edge of my seat, trying to figure out the who. But it also filled with funny laugh out loud moments. I loved the quirky old ladies in this story. They added so much to the book.
AAR has a magical way she writes her alpha heroes. If you alike a strong sexy man and a female lead who is equally as strong, I would highly suggest these stories. This was a 4/5 read for me. They are not overly long and detailed books. Spending a couple hours by the pool this summer, this is the perfect light and funny read.
This is a really cute, quick alpha male, instant love story in the How To Catch an Alpha Series. It features a strong willed, independent heroine named Anna who left her life in Chicago in search of something that will actually make her happy. She ends up in a small town working in a bakery where she meets Calvin, a hot detective that scares her just a little.
I loved all the characters in this books so much from the Golden Girls to Chrissie and Gaston who we already know from Baiting Him.
I love how they all step up to protect Anna and be there for her when her family let her down.
I really have enjoyed all 3 books in this series.
**I was generously provided with an advanced readers copy of this book in exchange for my fair and honest review**
Sweet, sexy, and funny Hooking Him is Aurora Rose Reynolds at her finest! Reading this took me back to why I fell in love with her books in the first place. From the heartfelt romance to the hilarious moments every second of this book was a joy to read. There was no pacing myself once I picked this up, it was utterly unputdownable.
I was completely engrossed in all things Anna and Calvin from the moment I started reading until the very last page. Their story is all things swoony romance punctuated by hilarity from friends and a huge dose of sweetness to go right along with the heat these two put out.
Ok I know the story was really about Calvin and Anna but The Golden Girls stole the show. They were hysterical!!!! Ok back to Calvin and Anna, they were just perfect together. From their initial interaction to Calvin going to the bakery to apologize. Their banter was perfect and the peanut gallery (Chrissie and Gaston) only added to the story. Seeing Anna stand up to her parents and go after what she really wanted was empowering. Another great story and a perfect ending to the series.
So I keep crying about this stupid Covid slump I’m in and honestly the last week felt like I was going a little crazy. I re-read an old favourite but I couldn’t get into any of the books I’m committed to read. Then I opened my kindle to find Hooking Him front and center and I couldn’t put it down.
Obviously I am madly in love with the beautiful Aurora Rose Reynolds and her writing is perfection. So it was a given that I was going to love the book. Seriously the only thing that could have made it more exciting is if it was a Mason.
Anna was one of those characters that I instantly wanted as a bestie. She wasn’t sure who she was, but she knew who she didn’t want to be and she had the strength to go looking for a better life. And I loved that she wasn’t afraid to face the things about herself that made her uncomfortable. She was a really great heroine.
In true Aurora Rose Reynolds style Calvin was perfection. He knew that Anna was everything he wanted in his life and he set about making that happen. Not that she put up much of a fight, but then again, who would? He had the whole growling, possessive alpha thing down. But it wasn’t in the normal over the top way.
The story was awesome and kept me guessing. And the chemistry was perfect. This was the perfect read to help restore my sanity.
I received a free ARC copy of this book from the author prior to release and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This is book 3 in the series and my new favorite. It stars two brand new characters in the series. Anna is the newcomer to town. She is a former heiress who now works at the bakery. And we meet Calvin, a cop in town who ends up meeting Anna when he gives her a ticket.
It is not love at first sight for these two but more of they drive each other crazy instead, however they are so much fun and I loved how his mom gets involved and tries to matchmake. I loved how even though Calvin has an ex that hurt him, that he wants Anna so much that he chases her around town until she gives him a shot.
This was a fun and hot romance with lots of laughs and hijinks and I absolutely adored it. There is some drama with Anna’s family and her ex fiancee and a stalker and murderer but those are small blips in the story. The story is centered on Anna and Calvin and I loved how sweet they are together.
Hooking Him is a story that will steal your heart and soul within minutes of starting this book. Calvin and Anna have an intense chemistry that you can feel radiate through the words and pages of their story. Their story is heartfelt, passionate, emotional and will leave your breathless. Two people who have a past they are trying to move forward from and are searching for nothing short of true happiness. If you are after a story that will make your pulse race, have you smiling and leave you feeling totally and utterly fulfilled, then sit back, grab a cup of coffee and relax as this one will have you hooked on everything that is Calvin and Anna.
Oh wow! I devoured this in a couple hours and even then I had to re-read certain parts because not only did Calvin capture my heart but so did Anna and her Golden Girls friends. She did what she needed to do for her happiness and didn’t back down. As much as others tried to bring her down, she stuck to her needs. Calvin supporting her and showing her how she truly needed to be treated was the icing. Their chemistry was explosive but it was more about their understanding, support, passion, and love that’s the heart of the story. There is a little mystery/suspense. There were so many moments of laughter too that I couldn’t stop smiling. I laughed, I cried, I got frustrated and upset but in the end, I was left with a big smile on my face.
This is the 3rd and final book in this amazing series and is Anna and Calvin’s story. Anna is from a wealthy family and appears to have her live all sorted out, however, when she realises that she is just complacent she gives up everything and moves to start a new life. Now working in a bakery and living in a small apartment she is content. I adored the “Golden Girls” and their crazy shenanigans. Calvin is a detective who has been hurt by his past and is not looking for any relationships, until he sets his eyes on Anna. This is a beautifully written story and is fun, entertaining, and humorous, with a tad drama, suspense, and mystery which all lead to a sweet and romantic storyline. I cannot recommend this story highly enough; it is a definite must read.
Hooking Him by Aurora Rose Reynolds is book Three in the How to Catch an Alpha Series. I have read the previous books which of course added to my enjoyment of this one but, I did feel they can be a standalone book if you wish to do so. This is the story of Calvin Miller and Anna McAlister. Anna has moved to town to make a fresh start after a bad breakup. Calvin is the hometown boy/man who is now a detective and also hasn’t had a good past relationship. When Calvin and Anna first meet they don’t have a very good meeting that takes them a few times to get past it. It doesn’t take to long before they get their feet on good grounding where their feelings just take off. I would not nor could not put the book down. I am a big fan of this author’s writing so I haven’t read one of her books yet that I can stop reading. I love her Alpha Male men who know who they want and they are going to make that happen. Loved it!
Not much to say about ‘Hooking Him’. It was a cute hallmark movie type romance filled with instant love (cringe worthy but expected), oozing chemistry, family drama, cheating exes and a side fish of murder (surprising bit of this story). It’s definitely a feel good romance and ideal for readers looking for a quick, easy read.
This was a real feel good book. The characters are well developed and the plot is well thought out. I like that Anna and Calvin are both down to earth genuine people that I can picture in real life. I like that there are few side stories going on as well other than just the main love story. And I especially loved how ARR tied them all together! I also really love the secondary characters in this book. Edie and the Golden Girls had me laughing multiple times and Bane sounds like the cutest pup in the world. The ending was a little rushed for me though. It was like the climax of the story happened and then the end. Overall a great book and I would highly recommend.
Not just a boy meets girl read. No, this book is about two different worlds coming together in a meet cute way that will steam up your readers. Anna and Calvin give us a story of and unlikely but perfect for each other couple. The setting is a small town filled with everyone in each other’s business and small town charm this book is the ultimate get away from our new realities. Throwing in a dash of danger and mystery, I was transported out of my house to a world where their is excitement near the beach and a hottie that will make the nights even hotter.
Now every good book has to have more than just romance and mystery! Eddie and her friends throw in that dash of comedy that will have you thinking of the Golden Girls and laughing till your pee your pants. So be warned!
An extremely entertaining and romantic book!
This is the third book in the series and I enjoyed just as the first book or maybe even a little more..I loved Calvin and Anna. I had to give it to Anna to let go of her toxic surrounding with supposedly the people who have your back or your love. Anna leaves he rich family, her good paying job, and her fiance of 5 years. Anna started a new life after realizing how shallow her life was, and meets the Golden Girls, and let me just say that I love those old woman they were hilarious. Calvin has been stuck in a rut, he loves his job however since his ex left him hanging 5 years ago he has no interest in dating, until he meets Anna. These two were made for each other, and we had a little interesting scenario going on besides their new love affair. Hates Anna’s parents and her supposed friend, however I got to appreciate Lance after his quick stupidity I felt like her redeemed himself.
rcvd an ARC at no cost to author..(netgalley) voluntarily reviewed with my own thoughts and opinions
What would you do if you realized that you were just going through the motions? Not living life, and it was more like letting life live you. Doing things that made other people happy, but not yourself. Anna realized that she was not happy and in an effort to change that fact she dropped everything, left her life behind in Chicago and is now in SC working in a bakery and living in a place that is the size of the closet she once had. Just when she thinks she has everything figured out, she meets Calvin. Is getting close to someone now a mistake, or is this one of those steps that Anna needs to achieve that goal of happiness?
Calvin and Anna’s story was amazing!! I loved everything about it; the drama, the trio of little old ladies, the naughty bits. From the first paragraph I got sucked in and didn’t stop until it the last word. I give this 5 stars.

Another great read by Aurora Rose Reynolds!! I absolutely love her Alpha Heroes and the sassy yet fierce heroines that they fall in love with. She always gives us the perfect mix of Alpha possessive and man with a heart of gold.
Hooking Him was another sexy, fun and entertaining read. This is a standalone novel that is told in Dual POV!! I loved that she added an element of suspense and mystery to this story. This book had me sitting on the edge of my seat, trying to figure out who did it?? But it also was like the other books in this series and had me laughing out loud. I loved the “golden girls”….they were so much fun!!!
This book is a standalone novel that is told primarily from Anna’s POV but we do get a couple chapters from Calvin’s. I thought the flow and pace of the story worked well. Normally ARR does the insta-love connection in her books, but this one was a little slower, not much, but a little…lol 🙂 Both Anna and Calvin had some trust issues to over come so it was nice watching that play out over the course of the story.
I loved Anna and Calvin’s story. It was sweet and romantic with just the right amount of drama and suspense to keep you intrigued. This is the third and final book in ARR’s How to Catch An Alpha series. It follows Anna and Calvin. Anna works in the same bakery as Chrissie (heroine in book 2). She left her life in Chicago to find her happiness. Calvin is a Detective for the local police department and has had his heart broken in the past. Neither of these characters were open to finding love. Both had some trust issues. I loved watching their love story play out!!
As I have said in the past, ARR is an author that when they release a book you don’t even need to know what it’s about, you just know it will be fantastic and you go in blind because they never let you down. I never have to read a blurb of her books, because I know I am going to get an Alpha Hero and a sassy heroine and a love story that will make me swoon and smile. I will read anything she writes!!!
If you haven’t read an ARR book and love an Alpha Hero and a story that has interesting storylines and off the charts chemistry….then you need to read one of her books.
