5 Stars for “Honor on the Cape”
The second installment of the Cape series did not disappoint. I love Blayne’s spunk and Irish roots and Jamie’s (Jay) determination to came home and fix his mistakes. I highly recommend this book.
Honor and familial duty are still bonds that connect Blayne McCafferty and Jamie Astor. It was familial duty and the need to honor his surname that drove Jamie to abandon his love Blayne in Cape Van Buren 10 years ago, leaving the new Irish immigrant to fend her way in a new country very much alone. And it is now Blayne who feels the familial duty to head back home to Ireland, a successful businesswoman whose achievements can bring honor to her family while she repairs the rift she created by leaving dramatically with Jamie all those years ago. But when Jamie returns to the Cape to win Blayne back, can he convince Blayne he will stay with her? Or will Blayne return home to the Old Sod? What bonds are stronger – love or honor? What emotion is stronger – fear or comfort?
And so MK Meredith immerses us once again into the world of Cape Van Buren, where old secrets, new love and Maxine Van Buren’s moonshine mixes together for a delectable treat for contemporary romance aficionados! Jamie is one swoon-worthy hero – wealthy, handsome and now mature enough to realize he has only one true love and soulmate. He now realizes his mistake of leaving all those years ago and staying away. But how can anyone not love Blayne, one vintage-loving, roller derby playing kick-ass businesswoman who really had to create her world in the US from nothing. The more I read, the more I wasn’t sure Jamie deserved her! But MK Meredith managed to masterfully bring all elements of the story together to make it one satisfying read. I loved it!
Loved it and recommend everyone run out and grab it
Blayne MacCaffrey and James Astor were meant to be together, but that was 10 years ago, before he left her in a country she didn’t know, with a broken heart, to make her own way. Blayne knows she has to make a name for herself, or she’ll never be able to return home after her own father accused her of causing the family dishonor. When she’s asked to take over the launching of the Archer Conservation Park in Cape Van Buren, she knows this is the very break she’s been waiting for that will bridge the chasm between her and her father. However, when James is asked by Ryker Van Buren to help with the launch, she refuses to fall for his charms again or let him stand in the way of her return to Ireland and the family she’s missed for so many years. But James doesn’t see this as a finish to the relationship he walked away from 10 years ago when he made the biggest mistake of his life. Instead, it’s the chance he’s been looking for and the challenge he is willing to take on to try to win her back. Will it mean their happy ever after, or will honor remain elusive for both of them.
This was so much more than a second chance love story. It was a story of determination and hard work. It was a story defining the importance of family, especially in the most difficult of times. It was also a sweet, mesmerizing and sizzling hot. It also gutted me more than once. It was one of those stories that made me want to reach into it and shake some sense into these star-crossed lovers. The heroine was strong even when it broke her to be so. The hero was determined with a healthy dose of doubt. The background characters were a fantastic and important supporting cast of characters who not only added to the humor but the suspense and drama of the situation. And the end was not as cut an dried as expected, keeping me on the edge of my seat until the very last word.
As expected, the author’s words had me in tears and laughing out loud. She has a way of blending emotions and words and creating a story that captures the heart. Her characters are complex and their stories fit together like a puzzle that needs to be worked out before the book can be closed. They always involve more than a single venue, always involving the entire town. The rivalries she designs are comical and so important to the dynamics of the groups of characters and the story. She makes me want to live in this tight knit community. Bravo, Ms Meredith. You deserve all of the recognition you receive for this story. And I’m beyond excited for the next one!
Honor on the Cape (Cape Van Buren Book 2) by MK Meredith. This is James Alexander Wilmington Astor III (aka “Jamie” also “Jay”) and Blayne MacCaffrey’s story.
The story grabbed my attention from the beginning. I loved and felt a connection to the characters. Jamie and Blayne were in a relationship years ago. A choice that Jamie made split them up. Their paths cross again after 10 years. Blayne is still hurt and angry. Jamie knows he made a mistake and wants to win Blayne back. The chemistry and attraction between them is still just as strong or stronger. Will Jamie be able win Blayne back?
This is a fun, sweet, steamy, and emotional read. Loved it!
FYI, contains mature content. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
Sometimes you have to go home to figure out that leaving was the right thing to do in the first place. Such was the case for Blayne MacCaffrey in Honor on the Cape by MK Meredith. The latest installment in the Cape Van Buren series brings Blayne back together with her first and only love Jamie Astor. Blayne and Jamie come together to make the Cape Van Buren community center a reality and realize that while you can’t always go home, you can always go forward and sometimes that is the right answer. Jamie and Blayne are fiery and fierce, but together they both learn how to be their best selves.
I really love this series and can’t wait to see what is next. I’m hoping that Meredith has plans for Claire and Mitch, their sparks are almost as hot as Jaime and Blayne’s.
I voluntarily reviewed and ARC of this novel.
