“When Time Stood Still” by Chelsi Arnold and J D Boudreaux

Together in the Smoky Mountains of Tennessee she has her hands full with the tall, handsome, and infuriating Nick. As for him, the five-foot-two beauty may be just what he needs, if he can survive “Hurricane” Jacqueline.

In 1919, as a suffragette for equal rights, Evelyn Thompson arrives at the ammunition factory for her regular supervisor shift. An accidental explosion tears apart the factory but brings Evelyn and James together in a selfless display of heroics that has nothing to do with gender and everything to do with love.

Hometown Heroes: A Christmas Anthology is a wonderful set of stories that I loved reading. Having stories that are set around Christmas and then adding in some romance gives you that heartwarming feeling that the season is all about. There is no doubting the magic of the season as you read each story. The woman in these tales are fiery, independent, and strong. While the stories are not long they have enough emotion in them that I found myself with misty eyes and a smile on my face. I found that these stories stayed with me and I thought about them even after I had finished the anthology. Some are set in the past and others are in the present day. All make a lasting impression on your soul. I have read stories by some of the authors and enjoyed reading stories by them again. I also have discovered new authors and look forward to reading more of their writing. This is a wonderful group of stories that have amazing characters. Highly recommended.
Hometown Heroes: A Christmas Anthology by Carrie Dalby, Chelsi Arnold, Cj Petterson, E. A. Hale, J D Boudreaux and Jolie St. Amant and is a series of very short christmas romance and stories told by the different authors. They range from stories told in earlier times to current times and even the paranormal, but each one is about heroes, falling in love and the joy of the season. There is also a lot of emotions in the stories and some may bring you to tears. But all in all it is a group of stories that will take you on a short magical journey and their diversity will ensure you enjoy that break in reality.
This is a book of short stories by six great authors. They are stories bring heartwarming Christmas Spirit to life with tales of romance, paranormal, and historical stories. I connected to all of the characters in these stories as they are lovable and made me feel as if I was right there with them. These are women who are town heroes, I highly recommend reading this book to find out why they are heroes. I found my favorite series as well as a couple of new ones, I know you will too.
The perfect anthology for Christmas! This romance collection hits all the right notes with the hometown themes and sweet romance thrown in to the mix. The collection provides tales from six authors and they lend themselves to each other well. Each story was heartwarming and relatable and just felt perfect for a fire, couch, cup of good cheer, and Christmas decorations. Just completely heartwarming. Loved it!
Hometown Heroes: A Christmas Anthology is a great set of holiday themed stories. These include: Courtship and Courage by Carrie Dalby, When Time Stood Still by Chelsi Arnold and JD Boudreaux, Hobbes House Noel by CJ Petterson, Talking in Code: A Christmas Homecoming by E.A. Hale, and Safe Haven by Jolie St. Amant. I personally love anthologies, always a new author and something I may not have previously read. That is absolutely the case here. I enjoyed each of these stories. In these holiday themed stories, the magic just flowed freely – it felt right, it felt real, and it was divine! This is definitely a treat that you need to taste.
Hometown Heroes: A Christmas Anthology was a sweet, feel good Christmas read that showcased a variety of different characters and situation, but in the end held the same heart warming message of love and magic.
This collection of short stories was a relaxing feel good read that managed to pull me in, even as the stories changed, the authors changed and of course characters. I found myself loving each stories and feel connected. Even as one story ended, I didn’t feel apprehensive about jumping into the next one, no I felt excited. The pacing and placement of each story was done magically and, I give props for that.
As each story is short, I’m not going to give you anything that might spoil this warm holiday read. I will tell you that, if you’re looking for a great collection to indulge your Christmas spirit, then this is for you. If you’re looking for an amazing way to spend a quiet afternoon, to lift your heart, then grab this book, even if you’re not into the whole holiday season, still pick up this book. The characters are all well-rounded and have such addicting personalities that you will connect almost instantly. This isn’t just a collection of Christmas stories, it a collection of love, finding love, magic, heros that don’t get the credit they deserve and, excellent writing.
So please take my super high recommendation and my stamp of approval; that this anthology will touch your heart and warm your soul.
Happy Reading

Hometown Heroes: A Christmas Anthology is a collection of five short stories by six wonderfully talented authors. These authors all have different styles and approaches to writing; all are unique and individual- but each story uses the same theme as their inspiration for writing their contribution to this anthology- the common thread running through each of the stories celebrates everyday heroes. Whether their heroism is gained through devotion, or leaving behind the safe and familiar in the hope of adventure and challenge, or saving a life by grabbing them from the clutches of death, or by being a war hero, or being someone who fights for what they believe in, or having the courage to leave a painful past behind in order to embrace the future- we meet a variety of leading characters, each one a hero in their own right and are unique to their storyline. All the stories are set around Christmas, and are packed full of Christmas spirit.
The Anthology contains:
-Courtship and Courage By: Carrie Dalby
-When Time Stood Still By: Chelsi Arnold and J.D Boudreaux
-Hobbes House Noel By: C.J Petterson
-Talking in Code By: E.A Hale
-Safe Haven By: Jolie St. Amant
All the stories are so engaging and believable- with wonderfully written plots, and well developed characters. I have read books by several of these talented authors before- but three of the authors were new to me… so I was excited to not only read the work of the authors I knew and loved, but also get an introduction to some authors who are new to me.
So, settle down for some wonderful reading, which will entice you with heartfelt romance, some suspense, a bit of mystery, history, some paranormal, action, drama, adventure, and more. There is something here for everyone!
I really recommend this Anthology- you won’t regret buying it! It is worth every cent of the purchase price- and by purchasing this anthology you will be helping out a charity in the process, as a portion of the proceeds will be donated to Cajun Navy Relief! #Win-Win!
Thank you to all the contributing authors!

Peterson Talking in Code: A Christmas by E. A. Hale, and Safe Haven by Jolie St. Amant. As a whole group, this anthology was put together well. The individual stories were short and quick, but had sweet romances in each book. I very much enjoyed all of these stories, but I particularly enjoyed Safe Haven. If you looking for a set of quick stories to read in between all the wrapping, this is a great holiday romance set to read!!!!!!

This is a collection of books about men and women who have put themselves on the front line so to speak. They give even when they have very little for themselves. All the stories were well written and had good character development. Sometimes short stories are better because it gives you just enough to satisfy you. There is no mincing words just straight to the point with only a few curves. These stories were a great distraction from my cranky 7 month old. I love anthologies because you get to read a variety of books and sample an author before reading their other stories. Overall I liked this book and will check out more from these authors.
Hometown Heroes: A Christmas Anthology by Various Authors. This was a wonderful collection of romantic Christmas stories ranging from Paranormal, Historical & Contemporary! One of my favorites was When Time Stood Still by Chelsi Arnold & J D Boudreaux is about Jacqueline Jones who needs a change from her East Side Apartment so she moves to the Smokey Mountains in Tennessee. Nick Lapointe once a member of the Cajun Navy says goodbye to Cajun country and heads to the same Smokey Mountains. When they meet sparks fly, literally, they are both attracted to one another but they also want to kill each other. Will love win out? This is a very entertaining read. I also really enjoyed Safe Haven by Jolie St Amcent. Its the story of Haven Cross trying to get over the tragic death of her husband during war. Every year @ Christmas she returns to Chateau Rouge & relives her proposal but the Enchanting Hotel has other plans for her & Chance Montgomery the musician in town. Can Haven let go of the past and have a future with Chance or will she let her fear hold her back? These are all very good Holiday romances and its well worth the read!
This collection of Christmas short stories was a quick and easy read. Each story features a different genre and each featured a hero of some type (hence the title of HOMETOWN HEROES).
Courtship and Courage by Carrie Dalby is a period romance. This is not a genre I read and I kind of rolled my eyes when I realized what it was. I have to say that I enjoyed it. It talks about a time in US history that I am unfamiliar with (shame on me) and I would like to learn more about. It is a sweet romance that takes place between a school teacher and a boat captain. It is well written, quick and to the point.
When Time Stood Still by Chelsi Arnold and J D Boudreaux is a contemporary romance. I have read both of these authors before and loved the fact that the male protagonist is reading one of Chelsi Arnold’s books. This is a story of how opposites attract and features a character with PTSD. My favorite line in the story – actually the entire anthology – “All a girl needs is her dog, caffeine, and a good pair of shoes. Everything else can be winged.” Well plotted with a very clear beginning, middle and end – I would love to read this as a full length novel.
Hobbes House Noel by CJ Petterson – This is a story where we learn that all is not as it appears. I believe that each character in this story is a hero in there own way.
Talking in Code by EA Hale is a full length novel in 13 short chapters. Complex and detailed story about a lost art.
Safe Haven by Jolie St. Amant – This is a short story\novella which is more like a scene from the author’s series “Chateau Rouge”. Paranormal Romance at its best. Makes you wonder what actually is going on around us.
The other thing I realized after writing the review is that there are no sex scenes and I don’t remember any foul language.
I would recommend this anthology to my mother’s book club.

Such a wonderful compilation of stories. Each contained a wonderful hero or heroine for the reader to fall in love with. My absolute favorite story in this anthology was When Time Stood Still. I really felt the whole book was a great holiday read. The characters were amazing and the storyline in each short tale was easy to follow.
Hometown Heroes has a good mix of stories centered around Christmas, heroes, and love. It has a little somethin for everyone. Courtship and courage is a historical romance with a sassy girl and a determined boat captain, centered around Christmas. I like how he’s making all his choices to be ready for a future with her, it’s sweet. When time stood still is sort of an opposites attract situation. These two were meant to meet, it was fate. Though they definitely butted heads for sure. Safe Haven takes place at this hotel I’ve read about before. All sorts of paranormal things going on, but falling in love is what it’s all about. Such a fun and sweet story.

Hometown Heroes is a great anthology! These following authors provided me with so much Christmas entertainment: Carrie Dalby, Chelsi Arnold, J D Boudreaux, CJ Peterson, E.A. Hale and Jolie St Amant. Some of these authors are new to me, while others I’ve read before. I absolutely loved reading these novellas by some of my favorite authors and being introduced to some great new authors.

This was a fantastic collection of short Christmas stories by some amazing authors! I loved that there were couple who I have read work by before and then also some new tome authors but each story in this anthology I thought was a well-deserved 5 star read! Although there may only be 5 stories there is definitely something for everybody from historical, contemporary to paranormal!
The 5 stories included in the anthology are as follows
Courtship and Courage by Carrie Dalby
When Time Stood Still by Chelsi Arnold and J.D Boudreaux
Hobbes House Noel by C.J Petterson
Talking in Code by E.A Hale
Safe Haven by Jolie St. Amant
I don’t think I can actually choose a favourite from this anthology which unusual for me there always seems to be one that stands up but I absolutely adored all of them. Each one was different and the author or authors were able to drag me into their stories easily. I actually would have happily read full length versions of any of the stories.
As I said before there is definitely something for everyone in this great collection and I cannot recommend it enough!
Hometown Heroes is a Christmas anthology comprising of five stories, which included:
Courtship and Courage by Carrie Dalby – A dramatic story set in the summer of 1898. Claire O’Farrell guards her heart but is no match for Joe Walker. This story was edgy and well written. A thoroughly enjoyable read.
When Time Stood Still by Chelsi Arnold and JD Boudreaux – A story starring Jacqueline and Nick. They get on each others nerves, spit fire at each other regularly, and provide a reader with endless action, activity, love and endurance. A fantastic and dramatic tale that was difficult to put down. A cleverly spun story worthy of 5 stars.
Hobbes House Noel by CJ Peterson – Merrill becomes a heroine after saving a stranger’s child. Christmas takes on a whole new meaning for her and she realises that sometimes what you are looking for comes to you in the oddest way, at the most unexpected time. A moving story that stays in your mind long after finishing.
Talking in Code: A Christmas Homecoming by EA Hale – Another story set in years gone by. Evelyn is a suffragette who is fired from her job in an ammunition factory, so a war veteran can take her position. Evelyn becomes entranced by James, until she realises who he is. Explosive emotions, courageous acts, defiance and love all go hand in hand to make up an adrenalin spiking and dramatic story that will never get old.
Safe Haven by Jolie St. Amant – Haven struggles to let go, and after her fiance was brutally taken from her, she has to deal with heartbreak, devastation and loneliness. She meets a dashing musician, Chance, and there unfolds a beautiful story of second chance love. An emotionally charged story that will lea vge a readers heart full.
This anthology celebrates all our heroes and heroines, whether famous or humble in their splendor. This collection of stories points out that a hero comes in all shapes and sizes, and the strength and courage of the human spirit is awe inspiring and never to be underestimated. All the authors are unique in their own right, but together they deliver some of the best christmas reading you will ever find. 5 stars.

Hometown Heroes is a collection of five stories: Courtship and Courage by Carrie Daley, When Time Stand Still by Chelsi Arnold and J.D. Bourdreaux, Hobbes House Noel by CJ Peterson, Talking in Code: A Christmas Homecoming by E.A. Hale, Safe Haven by Jolie St. Amant. Each story features a different genre but they all have a Christmas theme.
The short stories are all well written and held my attention from beginning to end. I haven’t read any of these authors so I’m glad a chance to get a little snippet of their writing styles. I love the heroe aspect of these stories. The strong characters and the romance. This is a great collection and I would highly recommend this collection to get you in the Christmas spirit.

This was a good collection of books, and what a great cause the proceeds go to!
There’s a story for everyone in this set and while they all weren’t my normal genre I love, I found each enjoyable.
I also found new authors to look out for.
If you like the stories of the everyday hero, this is the perfect colletion for you!

I loved this collection so so much. I have read books by a couple of these authors and loved them, what I really like is that now I have a few more authors to follow. Every story in this anthology was a 5 star read for me, a few of them I didn’t want to end and wish they could have been longer. Each one had a common thread with the hero part of the storyline, and this was shared by each author in a different way.
I don’t normally like reading anthologies and the only reason I took a chance on this one was a couple of the authors I have already experienced and the Christmas theme because I love anything Christmas. This one had everything I want in my books and I’m so very glad I picked it up.
I highly recommend reading this and I also can not wait to read it again next Christmas.
Many thanks to these extremely talented authors.
Loved It!!
