ONCE IN NINE LIVES, SOMETHING EXTRAORDINARY HAPPENS.
The last thing Gwen Cooper wanted was another cat. She already had two, not to mention a phenomenally underpaying job and a recently broken heart. Then Gwen’s veterinarian called with a story about a three-week-old eyeless kitten who’d been abandoned. It was love at first sight.
Everyone warned that Homer would always be an “underachiever.” … “underachiever.” But the kitten nobody believed in quickly grew into a three-pound dynamo with a giant heart who eagerly made friends with every human who crossed his path. Homer scaled seven-foot bookcases with ease, survived being trapped alone for days after 9/11 in an apartment near the World Trade Center, and even saved Gwen’s life when he chased off an intruder who broke into their home in the middle of the night. But it was Homer’s unswerving loyalty, his infinite capacity for love, and his joy in the face of all obstacles that transformed Gwen’s life. And by the time she met the man she would marry, she realized that Homer had taught her the most valuable lesson of all: Love isn’t something you see with your eyes.

I loved everything about this book, from the first hilarious introduction to Homer, to the last word on the last page! It is a gem, and I would recommend it whether or not you have a cat. You will relish the antics of this one!
I did not expect to like this book as much as I did. I am a cat lover but I do not think of myself as a crazy cat lady. This book is well-written and engaging. Not to be overly sentimental, (which I am certainly not), but I have been enriched learning – even vicariously – about Homer’s Odyssey through life. I am glad I took a chance on it.
Held my interest. I have recommended this book to all my feline loving friends. It is about one incredibly amazing blind cat.
A must read, highly recommended.
As a cat lover, I found this book entertaining as well as informative!
Having cats myself I could relate to the fun it is to have a cat that is so entertaining. Every day is filled with laughter when I see the antics through a cats eyes or lack of sight in Homers case. I have also watched my cats grow old and worried when they got sick as to what should I do and how much should or could I spend to correct this. I …
While I may not be the target demographic for this book(a male that is not a cat person), I thoroughly enjoyed it. It’s hard to tell if the book is about Homer’s life or Gwen’s life as they are so intertwined. I understand that you cannot compare a cat life to a human life, but I found her thoughts on Homer and what he accomplished very inspiring. …
I read the first time the kindle version, then I ordered the paper-copy because I wanted to highlight all those parts that I found very inspirational. Yes! you can learn a lot from a humble, funny, brave, blind cat.
