Crispin Henry isn’t an adventurer. He learned early on that the world is a frightening place and that home is rare and precious. If his friends didn’t drag him to sports games and ill-advised trips to Vegas, he wouldn’t get out at all—and his trip to Munich for Oktoberfest is no exception. But it’s there that he meets Luka Gabriel, and he learns to take a chance.Luka is a free-spirited world … free-spirited world traveler, working at Oktoberfest to feed his enchantment with new places and new people. His only possessions fit in his backpack, and he depends on the kindness of strangers for a place to sleep. Crispin should know better—but he takes Luka’s hand anyway, and together they turn three nights in Munich into the relationship neither of them has been brave enough to risk—and neither can let go of.
When Luka turns up on Crispin’s doorstep before the holiday season, Crispin takes him in on hope alone. Yes, he knows the odds are good Luka will flutter out of his life again and leave him bereft, but isn’t it worth it to see if Luka is a homebird after all?

I really love the plot of this. Both men are hurting and many of the same ways but each has chosen to cope in different ways. There was a lot of angst in their relationship to see if love is enough and can each of them get what they need. It felt touch and go for awhile as there were other possibilities. I love the way things worked out as each man comes to different realizations.
Luka spends his life on the road. He limits his possessions and changes locations as the spirit moves him. Spontaneity is his life. Crispin Henry could not be more opposite. His life falls into the comfortable pattern he has built for himself. Crispin needs the consistency to feel grounded, safe. So what happens when the unstoppable force meets the immovable object? In the deft hands of Amy Lane, what happens is poignant, beautifully written, romance. These two men have been broken by events in their pasts. While their reactions are very different, what has broken them is painfully similar. What starts as a night of passion at Oktoberfest in Munich becomes more than either man was expecting.
This is a story about hope and home. The characters in this book do not live perfect lives. But whatever problems they face, they face them with hope. They all have different definitions of home as well. What they don’t realize is that the home they are all looking for is living in the foundation of their friendship, of their love for one another. This could be what eventually scares Luka off, or maybe it could be what finally gives him his own home. This is a truly satisfying love story. I hope there is a follow-up for Cam, Crispin’s best friend. I would love to see him get his happily ever after as well!
You can read this novel as a light romance, though it has some deep themes – that’s Amy Lane’s style. Friendship, family, loss, grief, healing, support, love, and forgiveness pull both Crispin and Luka through their story, and while I think this author’s written better stories, Homebird was worth my time, and I hope to see these characters in future books.
This was one of the best relationship stories I’ve ever read. Crispin and Luca had immediate feelings for each other that grew from lust and admiration into a heartbreakingly precious love. No matter what was in store for their future, that love was going to last. The bond between Crispin and his sister was strong and true, as was hers with her devoted husband. Then there were the friends who helped Crispin to realize that he could step out of his comfort zone and enjoy life. These guys were so much to each other, teasing and sarcasm not hiding their love and concern. These people had such a great support system in each other, which was lovely to see. It made my heart happy to see all of this support wrap around Crispin when he needed it, and it was beautiful to see Crispin extend those same feelings of strength and support to Luca. Luca was kind, sexy, and everything Crispin could have hoped for; and sweet Crispin was exactly the person Luca needed to show up in his life.
I won’t go into the plot, but I just can’t stop thinking about the people. There was so much pain and change going on with different characters, and I felt like I got to know several of them pretty well. I loved them all! I want to know more about each of them. This story was sweet, sexy, funny, and heart-wrenching. It was amazing. Read this as soon as you can. You’ll be so glad you did.
Homebird will really tug at your heartstrings. I loved the Author note in the front of the book and just imagined Luka the waiter. It gave the story such a beautiful personal touch. As in all Ay Lane books you have an array of fabulous characters. I enjoyed not only Crispin and Luka but Crispin’s group of friends as well. The storyline had some sad moments, but that’s another Amy lane thing…You know there has to be a good ending!
If you are looking for a story with lots of meaning, character growth and just an amazing romance this is for you!
