A best friend’s little sister, fake relationship sweet romance. It’s all home runs and after parties until your sports agent-slash-best friend tells you to get a new image STAT or you won’t get that trade you desperately need in order to be there for your family. So what’s a guy to do except hire a fake girlfriend and go on pretend dates and then ask her to marry him in front of millions of fans? … front of millions of fans?
In hindsight, I shouldn’t have hired my agent’s little sister.
And I definitely shouldn’t have kissed her, or taken her to meet my family, or envisioned an actual life with her.
Three strikes I’m out. Now she wants nothing to do with me and there’s nothing fake about how I feel.
I’m in love with my best friend’s sister.
Home Run Fiancé is a standalone sweet romance in the Faking It series.

Can a free spirited, independent young woman find happiness posing as the fake girlfriend of a popular and talented major league baseball player? Stranger things have happened in the quest for true love, but Rhys wasn’t so sure she wanted to spend any time with Jake. He had a reputation as a player and was always photographed with beautiful women at his side, fawning all over him. Which is exactly why Jake found himself in need of a pretend girlfriend. He needed to clean up his act and make himself more marketable during his potential baseball trade negotiations. Jake thought that Rhys was beautiful and carefree, and very different from the women he usually dated, which was definitely in his favor. He was tired of women showing interest in him because of who he was, instead of getting to know the person he was inside. Rhys found Jake very handsome, confident and she loved his sexy beard. She could really use the money that she would receive by dating Jake. Besides, what could possibly go wrong? She had many plans for her future and none of them included falling in love with a perfect stranger.
What happens when Rhys and Jake spend time together? Will dating a celebrity become too much for Rhys to handle?
Will Jake decide to take a chance on love and win the biggest game of his life?
This sweet swoony book gave me all the feels. I loved this story about Rhys and Jake. Jake is a professional baseball player in LA. He wants to be traded to Texas so he can help care for his sick mom. But he has to clean up his image first. His agent and best friend suggests his sister, Rhys, act as Jake’s fake fiancée. Rhys recently quit college and is making a good living with her YouTube channel. On their way to their HEA, there is a small bit of angst and there is growth for both characters. This book has a little bit of everything – sweet moments, real life issues, imperfect characters, laugh out loud moments, and so much love. I will definitely read the other books in this series.
So… you know when I said I was boycotting certain tropes? Well, I lied. How about we pretend that I said I was going to avoid certain authors who write said tropes? Does that sound as good to you as it does me? Yes? Sweet! It’s settled! Haha.
I’m not lying when I say… I absolutely LOVED this book! I had the hardest time putting it down and I already want to read it again. It was THAT good!
You guys… I literally found myself laughing out loud and reading with one of those goofy perma grins on my face all while the butterflies in my stomach were going crazy. Why, you ask? Rhys and Jake.
*dreamy sigh*
Y’all these two. I just can’t even begin to tell you about them. The moment these two meet, sparks start flying! And they kept flying until the very end. Both Rhys and Jake are passionate, strong characters. They know what they want and they refuse to give up until they get it. With Rhys’s sass and Jake’s suave ways, neither one of them stood a chance. I loved every minute of it. Hehe.
I am really loving this series! It’s a lot of fun and giving me that much needed break from reality amidst all this craziness. There’s nothing better than curling up in my big, comfy chair and diving into a great book. I’m looking forward to reading Charlotte’s story. She’s been a bit of a mystery and I can’t wait to discover her secrets.
I am so glad that I found Ms. Ray! I’ve been in a bit of a rut lately and only reading books that I’ve already reviewed. But from the moment I picked up Lines We Cross, that rut seems to have disappeared. Gotta love when that happens!
A really good clean fake romance about Jake and Rhys who start a fake relationship to help his image but they dislike each other even though they are strongly attracted to each other. Jake needs an engagement to a nice girl to get his contract for the Texas Sliders to be near his mother during her cancer treatments. Rhys is doing it for her brother, Asher, Jake’s agent, plus she’s hiding a secret from him. Will their attraction overcome their dislike for each other?
I really enjoyed this book and highly recommend it.
I always love Marika’s books as they flow so well and are always a great fun read and this one was no exception
Jake a major league baseball player needs to clean up his act he has a reputation as a womaniser and that is going to help with his trade negotiations So he decides he needs a stable girlfriend to help his image even if she is a fake fiance. Rhys an independent woman isn’t sure that she wants anything to do with Jake he is everything she doesn’t like in men but she does need the money that he is offering Can this fake relationship become something very real you will have to read to see
Highly recommend, Really enjoyed reading
ONE ENTERTAINING ADVENTURE!!
Hook, line and sinker! Grappling with a multitude of trials, plot twists and turns while trying to balance the unknown. A host of unforseen surprises and thorny circumstances propel your emotions into play beautifully. Struggling with suppressed feelings, keeping you flipping page after page is as riveting as it is captivating. One turbulent storyline and raging plot catapults this beauty to life nicely. The characters are authentic and realistic with depth and traits that blend and flow. The scenes are so vividly detailed it gives the illusion you were right there with them. Remarkable job Marika, thanks for sharing.
Home Run Fiancee by Marika Ray is a cute fake fiance romance that sparkles and shines. Jake and Rhys have this great chemistry that shines thru the whole story. I enjoyed reading about the fake fiance/ sports romance which will keep you engaged and entertained by the chemistry between the main characters and the plot.
Super sweet, very sweet and just packed with feels.
My Rating: 4.5 stars *******
I just finished this book and I can’t even begin to tell you how much I loved it. My heart is bursting. Marika knows how to write emotional, sweet romances that will tug at your heartstrings, while also diving into issues like preconceived notions, insecurities and not being able to trust someone easily due to past experiences. In the beginning Jake and Rhys were wary of one another but I loved watching their story progress and seeing their walls come tumbling down. I loved how swoonworthy Jake was and the chemistry between these two was undeniable. If your looking for a feel good romance, you definitely need to check out this book!
Ooooh sweet sugary goodness does Marika Ray know how to bring on the swoon. I really am loving these cleaner romances from her. Not that I ever mind some heat, but I have to say there’s something refreshing about a story that’s solely built upon the emotional connection two people have. While I may not have needed to grab a fan I certainly needed a hand in keeping me from being a big puddle of melted heart swoony mush on the floor because jear desus Jake is magnificent.
This hot baseball star is a bit broody, occasionally a jerk, but once you get past his walls it turns up he’s the world’s sweetest teddy bear. Being burned more than once by his ex’s and dealing with the lies spread about him by the paparazzi has made him rather jaded. When his polar opposite, Rhys, is dragged into his life full of sass and fire he has no clue how his world is going to change. Rhys was adorable. Creative, talented and full of determination to make it on her own all while still being a sweetheart. I was rooting for her on multiple levels.
These two have a romance that will completely fill your heart!
Marika Ray has outdone herself with Home Run Fiancé. This book is categorized under sweet romance but there are so many emotions evoked while reading this book that it needs to be listed under why Marika Ray is a versatile and wonderful author! Jake and Rhys are two lovable characters that you want to reach and shake while reading but realize they need to go through the tough stuff to get to the sweet part. I loved this book and hopefully we get to see more them in the future.
This book was definitely a HOME RUN for me. Loved the entire book from start to finish… What a great lovestory!!!! Marika has done it again!!!
Marika Ray has done it again. Faking It series book 2 is another page turning swoony book.
Jake and Rhys may start off sort of hating each other but the chemistry between them quickly changes. Will their contract stand or will they change their minds and start a real relationship? Jake has been burned before, can he see past it and accept a new trusting relationship with Rhys?
This is a sweet and clean read and I loved everything about it. Secondary characters were wonderful and I hope they have books coming in the future. I highly recommend.
Jake and Rhys were amazing in this book. It was a super cute fun read for the summer. When Jake needs to get traded he does the only thing his agent can think of, fake an engagement! When all is said and done feelings are had and love is found!
Loved this story.
What starts out as an illusion slowly morphs into something real. Jake needs to improve his image and Rhys is just the girl to do it. Who knew that sparks and feelings would be involved. Can they achieve both of their dreams as a couple?
This was a sweet, swoony read with the right amount of angst to make it thoroughly enjoyable.
