When I first opened Home Made Lovely, I was shocked at how many words were in it and how few pictures were included. Any decorating book I’ve read before has been mostly pictures so I was very disappointed. However, that disappointment was short-lived when I started reading. This book is a great tutorial for decorating your home!
The first thing that stood out to me was that the author emphasized that you should decorate your home for YOU. It should be a comfortable place for you and your family, not a showcase for Pinterest-worthy photo ops. I loved that! The author also shared ways to bring Scripture into the home and gave examples of verses that can be prayed over every room. The book also has budget-friendly decorating ideas, ways to conquer clutter, and hospitality tips. She even shares some DIY projects and simple recipes.
I will be keeping this on my shelf for future reference!
I received a complimentary copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This book was not what I expected, and that’s okay. Author Shannon Acheson doesn’t just tell us how to “create the home you’ve always wanted.” It goes deeper than that. She challenges us to think about who we’re making this lovely home for, and what we really want. Not what current trends tell us we need. She shows us how to decorate on a budget. But more importantly how to decorate using God’s Word.
With a focus on hospitality and warmth for guests, Acheson reminds us that home should be our happy place. The place for family and friends to feel care for. A different home decorating book, I recommend it to those who are interested in decorating as an art, not a trend.
I received a complimentary copy of this book but was not required to leave a review.
