This was a heartfelt warning book about family, misunderstandings and what you really want out of life. This is about three sisters, Rose, Magnolia and Dahlia. 3 sisters invited to their aunt’s inn for the holidays. Rose is getting married, Magnolia is struggling with infertility whilst Dahlia has sent her children on holiday with her ex and his girlfriend. They are on a journey to find themselves, to be themselves and to find what they actually want out of life. They forge a relationship with each other that they thought was lost, after thinking each had the perfect life. I loved this book. The fact that it was set around Christmas (it’s never to early in my eyes). Will the sister undergo the transformation to be who they meant to be? A great story and characters.
Home For The Holidays is by far my favorite book that I’ve read this year. It was such a lovely story of family and togetherness. I loved all three of the sisters equally. Sara Richardson is definitely one of my favorite authors!!! I look forward to more in this series
Home for the Holidays is a heartwarming Christmas story about 3 sisters reconnecting and rediscovering what they want in life.
Dahlia, Magnolia, and Rose are sisters who each find themselves at a point in their life where they are struggling. They jump at the opportunity to visit with their estranged aunt at her mountain inn in order to escape their problems. Here they not only reconnect with each other but with themselves.
The sisters are all wonderful characters who I instantly cared about and rooted for. While are each very different from one another they celebrated those difference and were so supportive. Each one’s journey was filled with ups and down but wrapped up with hope for the future. I loved that Aunt Sally meddled just enough to set them in the direction towards their happy.
I know I’m being quite vague in my review but I don’t want to give away much more than what’s in the synopsis. Home for the Holidays is a heartwarming women’s fiction with to me, the perfect amount of romance that gave my heart plenty of happy sigh moments. (Especially Magnolia’s husband, I just loved that man so much!) I enjoyed every minute of it and definitely see it being one of my favorite holiday reads of the season.
I received an ARC for honest feedback.
Three sisters reunite at their aunt’s house when they think their estranged aunt is dying. Each sister is facing her own demons as well. Dahlia (Dally) is divorced with two kids and is faced with Christmas without her kids who are in France with her ex. Magnolia (Mags) has been trying for years to get pregnant is married to Eric. Rose is engaged to be married but isn’t sure she is in love with her fiance anymore, or if ever.
As they reunite at their Aunt Sassy’s home, the Juniper Inn, they notice it in shambles. The sisters work together, along with two local men, Dr. Ike and Colt to restore the inn in time for Christmas.
A sweet book in which each sister is confronted with decisions about her life and standing up for what she really wants.

Home for the Holidays brings estranged family members together once more at their Aunt Sassy’s inn. Three sisters, with personal issues of their own, make the decision to return to Colorado for one final visit before their aunt moves on from the now slightly rundown inn where memories are around every single corner. Fifteen years is a long time away, but Sassy’s love for the girls never faltered and they are welcomed back with open arms.
Dahlia, Magnolia, and Rose are facing personal decisions, questions in their relationships that make this getaway time even more precious as the distance from problems will often allow the truth, and the solution to be found.
The cover description really gives the reader a good idea of what to expect in Home for the Holidays. Yet it doesn’t show the emotional toll that personal life decisions have taken on all of these women, including Sassy. This time away will allow Dahlia to see herself in a different light far away from the controlling ex-husband who still is trying to pull the puppet strings of their relationship. For Magnolia, the failed IVF tries have finally reached a point where her husband no longer wants to hold out hope for a child. Magnolia isn’t there just yet, she may never be and this time at the inn will be a reflective moment for her. Rose may have fallen in love quickly and agreed to a marriage far too soon as she is now beginning to see her fiancé’s determination to change her even before the vows have been spoken. She’s second-guessing decisions made at the height of being in love, and being with her sisters and aunt will show her the way to true happiness.
There is a lot going on in Home for the Holidays, yet it flows easily, giving each character the needed time for their own issues, as well as time with family members. I enjoyed this story so much. It’s light on the romance side, but it’s there just enough to make the story realistic and provide reasons for some decisions. Mainly, this story is about family, decisions in the past and for the future, and the possibilities that can come if we hold out for them. One chapter is closing for each of these women, but another is on the horizon… that is what made their story so heartwarming, and at times, heartbreaking. Letting go of the past to embrace what may be just ahead. I was emotionally touched by their stories, and the Holiday theme was perfect for this reunion.
*I received an e-ARC of this novel from the publisher, Forever (Grand Central Publishing) via NetGalley. That does not change what I think of this story. It is my choice to leave a review giving my personal opinion about this book.*
Home for the Holidays by Sara Richardson was such a heartwarming and delightful read that put me in the right mood for the upcoming holiday season.
Three sisters Magnolia, Dahlia and Rose receives a letter from their aunt Sassy hinting at one final Christmas together at Juniper Inn. Thinking this would be her dying wish, they leave their lives behind to see their aunt. When they get there, Aunt Sassy is as sassy as ever and her plans were to leave the inn to the Buchanan sisters.
I read this in one sitting and this is the perfect book to cozy up and get lost in, in an afternoon. I found myself relating to the sisters and their lives. It was an uplifting read as sisterhood and family bonds are strengthened.
The writing was completely engaging and easy to read – simply unputdownable. This Christmas family story with a touch of romance is all I needed to start this wonderful holiday reading.
This was a fantastic read, and I loved it!
Though it’s her first Women’s Fiction book, Sara Richardson has delivered a perfect sweet and heartwarming story.
Home for the Holidays is about family and following your heart. It features sisters Dahlia, Rose, and Magnolia who reunite with their estranged aunt at her mountain inn. Each sister is at a crossroads in their life and time together is just what they need.
The story is told with each chapter being from one of the sisters’ perspectives. So it was easy to connect with them as the plot unfolded. There’s also a lot of holiday magic and a little romance to tie it all together.
I would love to see more from these characters in the future!
Thank you to the author for providing an ARC for an honest review
Super cute movie style book with three sisters go out to see their aunt at her inn that they use to visit! Told in three POV with one that is a mom to some cute kids, getting over a divorce but almost truly running into the town doc. Rose who is about to get married and hating her soon to be mother-in-law. Mags who has had fertility issues. Love all the sister-ness and them finding themselves again. Super cute location!
Overall, 4 stars and .5 steam
A feel good Christmas journey that checks all the feel-good blocks. The story of the Buchanan sisters will take you straight into the holiday season with a smile.
Home for the Holidays was a great book, and the setting was perfect. I would love to visit Juniper Inn! All of the characters were wonderful and I really enjoyed reading their stories. I wish this would be a series.
I voluntarily read and reviewed a complimentary copy from NetGalley.
HOME FOR THE HOLIDAYS by Sara Richardson is a contemporary, adult, stand alone story of women’s fiction focusing on the Buchanan sisters: Dahlia, Magnolia and Rose.
Told from third person perspective HOME FOR THE HOLIDAYS follows the Buchanan sisters to Colorado and their aunt Sassy’s Juniper Inn. A mysterious letter arrives inviting the sisters to spend a last Christmas at the Juniper Inn. Believing their aunt Sassy was going to die, Dahlia, Magnolia and Rose left their families behind in order to say goodbye to the woman they loved but upon arrival, the women would discover that Sassy was well, and was considering leaving the inn to the Buchanan siblings: Dahlia, a divorced mother of two whose children were spending the holidays with their father in France: Magnolia, a young woman who struggles with infertility and several miscarriages; and Rose whose engagement to a man is fraught with too many issues including the overwhelming control by her fiance’s mother. As the Buchanan sisters clean up the inn and prepare for the Christmas holidays, Dahlia will find love with the local doctor: Rose will come to a decision about her future; and Magnolia will discover that life is about to change for both she and her husband.
HOME FOR THE HOLIDAYS is a story of family and relationships, acceptance and love. The premise is sweet and heart warming; the characters are inspiring and playful.
Family is what the holidays are all about! Home for the Holidays is a truly beautiful story about three sisters, struggling with their own personal problems, but brought together again by their aunt. If you’re looking for the perfect book to curl up with – grab your cup of cocoa and a comfy blanket, cuz this is the perfect book to get you in the holiday spirit. I’ll definitely be reading this again closer to Christmas, but I can’t recommend it enough. I still smile just thinking about the Buchanan sisters. This is a must-read for any time of year!
Home for the Holidays is the 15th novel by Colorado author Sara Richardson. The three Buchanan sisters have wonderful memories of their visits, especially their Christmases, at their Aunt Sassy’s Juniper Inn in Juniper Springs, Colorado. Now grown and scattered around the country, the sisters, Dahlia, a divorced mother of two in Minnesota, Magnolia, a young wife and baker in Florida, and Rose, the youngest and a designer with an upcoming wedding to Savannah aristocrat Gregory Cunningham, receive an item reminiscent of their Christmases at Juniper Inn with a letter asking the girls to join her at the inn for one last Christmas.
Each girl, having hit stumbling blocks in their lives, decide to go to have a special Christmas with Aunt Sassy and each other. With wonderful descriptions of scenery and rich characters, this holiday story is a tale of sisterly love as they find themselves and reconnect with each other on a much deeper level as adults. Those discoveries are life altering for each sister.
This is a heart warming story and just the first of more to come. These sisters will capture your imagination and, just like me, you will want more stories about these ladies. I really enjoyed this book and I do recommend it!
Dahlia, Magnolia, and Rose – sisters – are each at a crossroad in their lives. Dahlia, who has been divorced just over a year, faces the first Christmas without her children. After suffering the heartbreak of numerous miscarriages and fertility treatments that aren’t working, Magnolia and her husband find themselves on opposite sides as they each question the future family they want so much. And Rose is getting ready to marry one of the most eligible bachelors in Savannah, but can’t seem to live up to the expectations set forth by his controlling mother.
So when their estranged Aunt Sassy invites the sisters back to the Juniper Inn – where they spent so many Christmases of their childhood – they each see an opportunity to reconnect and remember the things that are most important.
I fell hard into this book this past weekend. And I know, today marks the first official day of the Fall season, but honestly I just couldn’t wait to pick this book up.
It’s literally the idyllic Christmastime setting. Falling snow, small town, Christmas celebration, reconnecting with family, connecting with new people, romance. It hit all the right spots for what I’m missing/needing in my own life right now, I think.
I loved that Sara Richardson gave each sister their own path in this book, but also was able to make it about them coming back together again. I thought it was really well balanced. Excepting right towards the end where I felt a little rushing to tie things up with a nice bow, I felt that each sister’s story got it’s own equal share of the pages.
Dahlia, facing Christmas on her own, doesn’t really know who she is without her children and after her husband left her for another woman, her self-worth is rather low. She meets Ike Songer while in Juniper and begins to gain the confidence back that she lost after ten years of a marriage that ended badly. I loved seeing Dahlia, basically, embrace herself again.
Magnolia’s story was the most heartbreaking. Sara Richardson conveyed so well the gut-wrenching sadness that accompanies a miscarriage. Magnolia’s story was the one I wanted more than anything to see a happy ending. I won’t spoil anything, but her journey is probably my favorite of the book.
And Rose, the youngest, has always been the people pleaser. This time, she’s marrying the man her mother thinks is perfect. Good name, wealthy. But Rose wants to be more than a wife to her husband. She wants to have and realize her own dreams which include interior designing. I enjoyed seeing Rose, I guess, kind of grow up and recognize what it is that she wants and not be afraid of getting it even if others are doubtful.
I think the best aspect of the story was that it was really focused on the women. Yes, there’s romance, each has their own romantic subplot, but the men, and the romance, don’t define the trajectory of where the women’s story will end which is mostly clearly visible in Rose’s own story.
Out of all three sisters, I feel like I would like to see more from Rose. I felt like she was just getting started and I’d love for her story to pick up in the next book.
Overall, a satisfying early holiday read that has me ready for snow and hot chocolate, presents and family.
When Aunt Sassy sends each of the sisters a letter and gift asking them to come home for one last holiday, they all 3 assume she’s ill. Each sister has some conflict in their life when they get the letter and they all agree to go and spend time with each other and Aunt Sassy. Turns out to be just what they each need. They are able to get some answers as to why they quit going to see their Aunt, help her make some decisions on her life and gain a clearer view of their own lives. They find they need each other more than they even realized and all could benefit from some changes. Very heartwarming story and shows how sometimes we all need to take a break and look at what’s going on in our lives and what changes we might make that can be scary but provide better quality in the long run. I received an ARC through Netgalley and am voluntarily leaving my review.
I loved this story about sisters, each at a crossroads in their lives. While listed as womens fiction, it was more of a holiday romance in my eyes; Hallmark channel-ish, but without the sappy, cavity-inducing perkiness.
Dahlia, Magnolia and Rose were interesting characters who were each dealing with real, personal issues, but keeping them all inside. Living far-flung from each other doesn’t necessarily lead to sharing with each other, but spending Christmas with their very free-spirited aunt Sassy brings them together again…just in time to lean on those sisterly bonds.
This was my first holiday themed read of the season and I couldn’t be happier in my choice of books. Emotional, inspiring, fun and uplifting, I highly recommend Home For the Holidays
Loved this story. Three sisters, all different personalities, head back to Juniper Springs for Christmas with their Aunt Sassy. This is a place all the sisters feel that they are home. Being in back in Juniper Springs helps them to find the way their lives should be moving forward. This is a great Christmas story. The characters are awesome, you’ll love some of them and some you may not even like, but hey, you have to have good and bad, right? I received this book from NetGalley, but my opinion is my own.
Set in a picturesque town in Colorado alive with Christmas three sisters comeback to visit their Aunt Sassy to spend it with her and reevaluate their lives. This is an uplifting an happy story so what the w0rld needs now – thank you Sara Richardson for the Christmas Magic.
Dahlia, Magnolia and Rose are sisters who each lead busy and active lives.
The sisters each get a letter from Aunty Sassy asking them to return to the Juniper Inn suggesting they spend the holidays together with her and they all think she is ill and they want to spend what time they have left with her.
Little did they know she is perfectly fine and just want them all to be together.
The sisters each have complications in their lives and need to be with each other.
I loved the story – the setting and each character added another dimension to the story.
I want to thank NetGalley, Sara Richardson and Forever (Grand Central Publishing) for the ARC of Home for the Holidays. This is a story that will warm your heart and make you glad you went Home For the Holidays with them.
