Grace Mitchell’s dream of creating music derailed when she saw firsthand how fame could change a person. After choosing a more stable career, she’s content to build her future in backwoods Missouri until the reminder of her broken heart walks in the door of her father’s bait shop.Tyler Sherwood left it all behind for a chance at the national spotlight, but a backstage revelation changed … changed everything. Embarrassed to face his family after his failure, he retreats to a rustic cabin to regroup…and comes face to face with an intriguing young woman and an old guitar.
When sparks fly, will they leave her singing or singed? Can the message and the music reignite dormant dreams and bring him home for Christmas?
If you like prodigals, faith-filled romance, and country music, then you’ll love this final chapter from the Wardrobe series by Candee Fick.

Candee Fick sure can take a character I didn’t much care for in a previous book and redeem them in my eyes. She did it in Sing a New Song and she does it again in Home for Christmas.
If you’ve been following The Wardrobe series, you’ll remember how Tyler Sherwood left things. And if you haven’t gotten to it yet, you’ll get the gist in this new novella so you won’t be left in the dark.
I enjoyed Tyler’s journey back to faith and family. Grace Mitchell is witness to it all. A brief acquaintance with Tyler in her younger years has left a big (not very favorable) impression on her. Now he’s back in her orbit and hard to resist.
This sweet novella is a wonderful holiday read filled with hope, romance, forgiveness, and more. It’s also an excellent conclusion to the series.
Disclosure statement:
I received a complimentary copy of this book but was not required to write a favorable review. All opinions expressed are mine.
This is an incredible conclusion to this whole series and I’m sad to see it’s the last. The author uses the parable of the prodigal as her theme. Another major theme is having faith in God and trusting in his divine guidance to direct your future. Yet, sometimes, God pulls us aside and out of the limelight to teach us some new truths and in so doing, we are better equipped to serve him. All this and more is within the pages of this book.
That “more” is a gentle romance! Tyler and Grace actually have a brief past when their lives intersected in high school. This brief encounter was enough to influence them in very dramatic ways. But, now they have a second chance to get things right.
The conclusion is very fitting and it’s like everything has come full circle, but with new meanings based on what God wants for the characters’ lives.
Romance – PG / kissing only
Language – Clean
My rating – 5 stars
Home For Christmas by Candee Fick is a inspiring and lovely conclusion to the Wardrobe Series. With real characters facing real situations. The prodigal son of the famous Sherwood family (Tyler is hiding in disgrace from his family) meets a girl (Grace trying to hide from life). Beautiful story of mercy and grace and facing life’s twists and turns. Looking forward to more stories/books from Candee Fick.
I received this book from the author and all opinions are my own.
Tyler and Grace both get a second chance to find success in musical careers and to discover what will truly make their lives happy and fulfilling. They both lost their way and purpose, but discovered it in this book. I thought it was great that Tyler built his own guitar from recycled materials. I loved that Grace was a singer song writer. Both their families were so supportive of their dreams. I hope her sister Mercy finds her own supporting man in a future book.
Tyler Sherwood is kicked off a television show and returns to the Branson area where he hides out at a backwoods cabin rather than face his music show business family. Tyler doesn’t start out as a very nice person but changes through the course of the book! Grace is a sweetheart who plays guitar, sings and writes songs but is afraid to do so publicly. Meanwhile, she is helping at the family bait shop and restaurant! You will enjoy following Tyler as he changes after meeting Grace and her father. I recommend Home for Christmas to anyone who enjoys contemporary Christian fiction. I received a complimentary e-book from the author. This is my honest opinion.
A fun-to-read Christmas story with interesting characters!
I like how song writer Grace Mitchell faces her fears about which path to choose by remembering wise advice. Musician Tyler Sherwood is a great hero as he works through his problems, realizing his past mistakes. The developing romance between the couple is sweet, with an ending which definitely left me with a happy smile!
I enjoyed the peek into the world of music performers. Who knew folks can make their own guitars? (Don’t miss the details of the author’s inspirational in the notes.)
I found this to be an entertaining novella, even though I haven’t read the other books in the series. I’m intrigued by the family members mentioned who had their romances told in earlier books. Home for Christmas is fun-to-read story!
*I was given a copy of the book with no requirement to write a review. This is my honest opinion of this story.
I completely lost track of time!
Being an early riser, I often have extra time in the morning before I need to start getting ready for work. And normally, I do a great job keeping track of the time. It helps that my Kindle displays the time at the top of every page! Reading like this has never been a problem.
This morning I was up early again so I settled into my cozy recliner and started to read Home for Christmas. I was caught up in the story, loving the characters and the plot. All of a sudden, I looked at the time and gasped! I had completely lost track of time and had read for an hour longer than I had planned!
Gracie and Tyler both have identical twins, and both struggled with maintaining their own identity. Tyler became a bit of a prodigal in his attempt to be seen for himself.
I loved Gracie’s dad and the quiet wisdom he imparted. His love for music and making instruments was eclipsed by his love for God. He had a gift for encouragement and exhortation and shared scriptural truths in a gentle and loving manner.
This story was lovely. I loved seeing Gracie learn to accept the gift that God had given her and be willing to step out of her comfort zone so she could use it for His glory. And especially loved seeing Tyler turn to God after being broken and becoming a new man in Christ.
If you enjoy stories of prodigals coming home and second chances, this is a great one to read.
As a disclaimer, this is the fifth story in the Wardrobe series. If you plan to read just this book, it does stand alone; however, if you want to read the entire series (you won’t regret it!), be sure to read them in order to avoid spoilers.

I was given a copy of this book. I was not required to give a favorable review nor was any money received for this review. All comments and opinions are my own.
A story of going home to find forgiveness, love, but most of all, God’s grace.
This is now my favorite book of Candee Fick. This may be a short read, but you get the satisfaction of a longer book. This author can truly tell an emotional, heartfelt story. Tyler leaves his family in Branson and heads to Vegas for a singing competition, Making Music. When he learns he’s being eliminated and finds his supposed girlfriend in the arms of their coach and one of the judges, he can’t face his family. He heads to Ridgedale, where his Uncle Joshua has a cabin. When he stops at Mitchell’s Way Stop, he meets Grace and her dad, Luke. This will end up being the turning point in his life. I won’t tell what happens, but I will say you will be smiling as you read this wonderful story.
5 Star Plus!
What an awesome book!
A prodigal son. A girl with a dream she had smothered. A dad who sees her potential and gives her a little push.
How does God bring these people together?
I highly recommend this book!
A faith filled romance about two people searching for where the Lord wants them to be. I loved Grace – I have twin identical daughters so this was especially fun to read – she had an amazing attitude and a heart so willing to extend grace. Tyler wasn’t my favorite having read about him in a previous Wardrobe series book but I came to love him too. This read made me look at Who I am trusting in and how we all need grace and mercy and forgiveness. The ending was one of the best I have read. Another great addition to this series.
