Melanie runs away. From conflict. From pain. From reality. When novelist Melanie Vander faces a looming deadline, she decides it’s time for an escape to an inspiring, novel-worthy locale. She’s not running away. Really. She just needs time to focus. But as she disappears into her writing, she encounters a man whose tenderness leaves her reeling. Engaging and wise, psychologist Elliot Hammond … psychologist Elliot Hammond tempts Melanie to question everything, including her marriage.
But that’s ridiculous. Dr. Hammond isn’t even…real.
Melanie’s husband, Craig, has his own problems, including a recession that’s threatening his business. Waning finances, a looming home foreclosure, and a wife who’s checked out emotionally, has Craig feeling as though he’s carrying his burdens alone. When his client, the beautiful and single Serena Buchanan, offers him a solution to his financial woes, he’s tempted by more than her offer of a business solution.
At a crossroads, Melanie and Craig seem headed in opposite directions.
As Melanie runs away from her problems by escaping into her own fictional world, Craig dives into his struggles, seeking God for strength and healing for his marriage. Ultimately, Melanie must choose whether she’ll check out completely, or allow her characters to lead her home.

I enjoyed reading the second half of the book. The first half wax difficult for me to keep track of. Going from fictional characters to real life. Once I was able to keep track of the characters i found the book interesting.
Not very interesting
It was interesting to see how the couple grew apart but were able to reunite.
I enjoy reading this book , it was a little different than what I usually read. Has a lot of people in the book
This book dealt with some very realistic themes and gave its characters hope in situations that seemed impossible. The author researched the material quite well and dealt with the issues involved, teaching the reader along the way.
I’m… not sure how I feel about this book. On the one hand, it’s a surprisingly open, real, and not-cheesy-at-all portrayal of two believers rediscovering their faith in God and, through Him, each other. The development of their marriage, and the way they rediscover their relationship, was truly touching. On the other hand, I often found myself slogging through scenes wondering, why am I reading about this moment? Really?
Overall, worth a read–if you can make it through to the end.
I really enjoyed reading this book. Real life, not sugar coated. Great story!
Lots of characters. Great read.
This is a wonderful book and well worth the read!
I love Ginny Yttrup and this novel is so inspiring, realistic and moving. Love her works and this is no exception!
After the first few chapters, I almost stopped reading it but am glad I kept going. Gave me lots to think about and realty enjoyed it once I got past the get-aquainted chapters.
An interesting book with some twists
Deals with mental health and relationships. Wonderfully written.
A good read that makes you reevaluate any issues you might be holding on to.
I really enjoyed this book, it highlighted such relevant issues and I could easily relate. The title says it all. Home.
End was abrupt but the rest of the book very enjoyable
Nice story!
For me, this was quite refreshing. From the protaganist being an author to chapters devoted to different character’s points of view. There was some mystery with one character’s past. It was not a light read but did have some levity. The spiritual aspect was realistic and not forced.
great book with a great story
Interesting characters. Several stories within the story. Kept my interest to the last page.
