Melanie runs away. From conflict. From pain. From reality. When novelist Melanie Vander faces a looming deadline, she decides it’s time for an escape to an inspiring, novel-worthy locale. She’s not running away. Really. She just needs time to focus. But as she disappears into her writing, she encounters a man whose tenderness leaves her reeling. Engaging and wise, psychologist Elliot Hammond … psychologist Elliot Hammond tempts Melanie to question everything, including her marriage.
But that’s ridiculous. Dr. Hammond isn’t even…real.
Melanie’s husband, Craig, has his own problems, including a recession that’s threatening his business. Waning finances, a looming home foreclosure, and a wife who’s checked out emotionally, has Craig feeling as though he’s carrying his burdens alone. When his client, the beautiful and single Serena Buchanan, offers him a solution to his financial woes, he’s tempted by more than her offer of a business solution.
At a crossroads, Melanie and Craig seem headed in opposite directions.
As Melanie runs away from her problems by escaping into her own fictional world, Craig dives into his struggles, seeking God for strength and healing for his marriage. Ultimately, Melanie must choose whether she’ll check out completely, or allow her characters to lead her home.

A poignant story of love, friendship, overcoming the past, and discovering the true meaning of home.
A glimpse into OCD from a sufferer’s point of view and the spouse trying to cope and understand. Also another family dealing with mid-life marriage & grief crisis from both sides of the struggle. The author drew me into their lives even tho I was put off, at first, by jumping back and forth between the people struggling. The transitions were easy and short so the train of thought was not lost. A good read!
Home – a perfect title. Home isn’t necessarily a place.
I was interested in the story topic. Then as I read three story lines with a possibility of a four appeared. It was hard at first to keep them all straight. I felt that the author did not give much attention to two of the story lines. So at the end of the book you are only left with one completed story. The other two just hang out uncompleted.
Yttrup was a new author to me, but I loved this book for its realistic, in-depth characters. I finished it and ordered her 3 other books online. “Words” is even better, but all three of them are wonderful!Q
I really enjoyed this book. I was inspirational in dealing with the different changes that takes place in life from birth, planning family and having Christ in your life to work through the different challenging experiences you go through.
A good read that makes you appreciate what you have and think about what could possibly happen. Very interesting and realistic. A thought-provoking Read.
A very thought-provoking study of several characters working their way through personal issues: writer’s block, obsessive-compulsive disorder, extramarital temptations. The Christian element is understated and nicely offered up.
I read and enjoyed this book, but not as much as I did the others written by G. Yttrup. I considered the others unique in subject and held my attention and while enjoyed this one, the subject did not hold my interest to read as “voraciously” as I did the others. I admire the creativity and writing style of G. Yttrup and will definitely read anything further she writes.
Have to say I liked Jill the best, despite her OCD and PTSD. I also liked what a strong relationship she has with her husband.
I found the writing interesting, the characters charming
Real world issues.
Would recommend!
Very few books I would read again…this would be one of them, well written, the interaction of people was real and believable
I loved it. It really touched my heart and helped me understand and work through some of my own grief.
It gave allot to think about when people get so involved with there own lives that you have to have a hardship to bring you back to reality. It seems that you need to listen to have a great friend to bounce things off.
I love to read a book I can’t put down it was good I like her writing
Enjoyed her style of writing. Will read more by her.
It was a nice easy book to read.
Couldn’t finish, went straight to trash
For me it was a little hard to get into because I couldn’t figure out what was going on. But once I did I had a very hard time putting it down! It drew me into the story and their lives. Once you start you won’t want to put down the book! Enjoy
