THE INSTANT #1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLERTen years after the high-profile kidnapping of two young boys, only one returns home in Harlan Coben’s gripping Myron Bolitar thriller.A decade ago, kidnappers grabbed two boys from wealthy families and demanded ransom, then went silent. No trace of the boys ever surfaced. For ten years their families have been left with nothing but painful memories and a … nothing but painful memories and a quiet desperation for the day that has finally, miraculously arrived: Myron Bolitar and his friend Win believe they have located one of the boys, now a teenager. Where has he been for ten years, and what does he know about the day, more than half a life ago, when he was taken? And most critically: What can he tell Myron and Win about the fate of his missing friend? Drawing on his singular talent, Harlan Coben delivers an explosive and deeply moving thriller about friendship, family, and the meaning of home.

I experienced this as an audio book. The reader brought his acting to great benefit in presenting the story. I wish I could think of his name. Coben is one of my go-to authors when I want to be entertained in a twisty way. I found this particular novel a little disappointing though. It stretched credibility in many ways and failed to provide detail when I wanted it to be there. That said, I still recommend the book. I was entertained, and it is always fun to be reunited with his recurring characters.
Loved this book. Very good read
Always good!
I like this author – will read any and all books by him.
Good Harlen Coben Read.
Good Read. Great Ending
Very good Harlan Coben book. Know these characters and it’s nice to meet them again. Twists and turns and surprise ending.
I had been binging on Harlan Coben books for awhile, so I decided to take a break and read some other authors. Then I saw this one and thought it was time to come back. I’m so glad that I did. This is a book that everyone who likes the Thriller genre should read. It’s interesting that he writes the story from the perspective of ‘Win’, one of the better characters in any book. Usually, Myron Bolitar is the main protagonist with Win in the supporting role, but it works really well. And their ‘bro-mance’ is really touching.
All the characters are back including the always hot Esperansa, hilarious Big Cindi, ‘El Al’ Bolitar, and nephew Mickey, who has his own series for young readers. The ending really took me by surprise. One of the other reviewers said they thought that this might be the end of this series. If it is, and I really hope its not, it’s a great way to end. Get this book. You won’t be disappointed.
I’ve always enjoyed Coben’s writing style. He has just a touch of humor and he and his friend really act as a foil to each other. This book in particular, though, added a twist that I hadn’t seen coming.
I’m a total fan of Coben’s Myron Bolitar books – can’t get enough of them. The writing is fabulous, and the snide comments Bolitar makes inside his own head about himself or situations or other people sometimes have me in stitches. Great mysteries, developed well! Love them!
I love anything written by Harlan Coben!
It has an intriguing plot and was well done, but not quite a five in my opinion.
Kept me wanting to pick up the book constantly.
this author is excellent, always a great story, well written, and evokes the full range of your emotions
I love every Harlan Coben book I have ever read!
Found me a great new writer!!
Love all Harlan Coben books. All are different and you never know till the end
I generally have read quite a few Harlan Coben. Some of the stand alone’s were superb but as a series I just love Myron and Win. This is a Win and Myron.
I don’t particularly read books in the order they were written. So when i was reading the Mickey Bolitar series i would often wonder where Win was. Why wasn’t he in? I guess i missed a few before the start of that series.
This book starts off with Win. Hard core , no apologies Win. I was hooked. Then the Myron,Win repartee, i just kept enjoying the book. About a quarter into the book. Mickey and his young sleuths gang was also in. At that point i was actually like WOW. A proper Win and Myron series with Mickey and gang as well.
It was thoroughly enjoyable. Of course i think the Myron and Win series should not be read back to back as then maybe it becomes repetitive. In this case for me it was quite a long break. At least 4 yrs or more. So that might be one of the reasons I loved it so much.
Harlan Coben books almost never end well. No happy endings so that isn’t really a spoiler.
However the epilogue again had a very nice , completely unexpected juicy reveal. Makes me wonder where he is going with this in the next books. Interesting possibilities.
Sold mystery read. Keeps your interest to the end. Typical read from author… dilemma that has tough, twisted turns in it. *spoiler alert* Almost all his works have an “oops, we got in over our heads, a crime happened, and we got spooked or we/kid(s) look bad in our community; sorry, should have known better, but couldn’t un-do it, so we went with this outcome, instead of telling truth years ago”.
Truly enjoy this writer. Usually stay up late to finish.
