Virgil Flowers investigates a miracle–and a murder–in the wickedly entertaining new thriller from the master of “pure reading pleasure” (Booklist)Pinion, Minnesota: a metropolis of all of seven hundred souls, for which the word “moribund” might have been invented. Nothing ever happened there and nothing ever would–until the mayor of sorts (campaign slogan: “I’ll Do What I Can”) and a buddy … slogan: “I’ll Do What I Can”) and a buddy come up with a scheme to put Pinion on the map. They’d heard of a place where a floating image of the Virgin Mary had turned the whole town into a shrine, attracting thousands of pilgrims. And all those pilgrims needed food, shelter, all kinds of crazy things, right? They’d all get rich! What could go wrong?
When the dead body shows up, they find out, and that’s only the beginning of their troubles–and Virgil Flowers’–as they are all about to discover all too soon.

I love every book John Sanford has written. I receive them on publication day ( thanks AMAZON) and am always finished way too quickly! Always awaiting the next one!!
A worthy addition to the Virgil Flowers saga….
I absolutely love the Virgil Flowers series! He may not be flashy but he slowly and methodically get the criminal while meeting a new group of unique characters some helpful, some not so much. Always a great read with a twist or two to keep the reader guessing!
As usual John Sanford never fails to deliver an original story that forces you to keep reading until the end. A highly original plot that twists and turns until a final surprise that could never be anticipated. Virgil Flowers is as original cop as Lucas Davenport.
You will not be disappointed.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I’ve read all the Virgil Flowers books, enjoyed them all. This one had me laughing out loud! Great entertainment!
How does Sanford do this book after book after book? He just keeps getting better. Virgil Flowers is back in a small town in Minnesota hit hard by the economy solving another quirky crime with interesting characters. Two days. i could not put the darn thing down. Every extra minute spent reading the latest Virgil Flowers dilemma. I love how Sanford includes regular characters and seems to make them richer and deeper in intelligence and with humor. Keep writing, John Sanford. I do not miss a book, not one!
Excellent
Love this author but this one wasn’t up to his usual, the plot dragged out and the twists were predictable.
Love Virgil Flowers. But I missed Davenport calling to bust his chops.
Yoiu can’t fo wrong with Virgil Flowers

Virgil Flowers. What more need I say?
another great Virgil Flowers novel
Jus like Sanford’ s books
I am an avid Sandford reader and have read every one of his books. This one is good, but not his best. I still recommend it as it is entertaining and I went cover-to-cover almost without pause.
Classic Flowers is back
Virgil Flowers #11 and still going strong! He just might be my favorite protagonist in this genre…very smart but humble, never boring, always thoughtful. He’s the perfect example of the spin-off ending up better than the original (Virgil Flowers first came alive in the Lucas Davenport Prey novels). This outing, our hero is sent into a tiny Minnesota town only a couple of hours from home, and so he gets to come home occasionally for a home cooked dinner and to check on his with-child wife. The plot is well composed and just complicated enough to keep things moving along. Two shootings become three, and then four, and the case seems impossible to solve. I hated to see it end, but (as usual) it ended fully with all loose ends tied up (never any cliff hangers with John Sandford). I am ready for the next one already. If you have never read this series, I envy you as you have the first eleven still ahead of you! Be sure to start with #1.
I’ve loved quirky, witty Virgil Flowers since he was first introduced in Sandford’s Lucas Davenport books. The entire series is fantastic.
