Virgil Flowers investigates a miracle–and a murder–in the wickedly entertaining new thriller from the master of “pure reading pleasure” (Booklist)Pinion, Minnesota: a metropolis of all of seven hundred souls, for which the word “moribund” might have been invented. Nothing ever happened there and nothing ever would–until the mayor of sorts (campaign slogan: “I’ll Do What I Can”) and a buddy … slogan: “I’ll Do What I Can”) and a buddy come up with a scheme to put Pinion on the map. They’d heard of a place where a floating image of the Virgin Mary had turned the whole town into a shrine, attracting thousands of pilgrims. And all those pilgrims needed food, shelter, all kinds of crazy things, right? They’d all get rich! What could go wrong?
When the dead body shows up, they find out, and that’s only the beginning of their troubles–and Virgil Flowers’–as they are all about to discover all too soon.

John Sandford writes a very funny set of books around Virgil Flowers. Lots of F-Bombs if that offends but well worth reading. It will keep you guessing until the end.
Enjoyed this a lot, didn’t find the killer till the end
some how Sandford has made Virgil Flowers an even better character than Lucas davenport. Great audible read
I loved the characters, the plotline and the setting. The lead character is absolutely hilarious.
Love anything that John Sandford wrote, especially ones with Virgil Flowers!
The Virgil Flowers stories are always anticipated by me and, to date, have never disappointed. Although there is murder, there isn’t any gratuitous violence was a lot of clever repartee. If it were a movie, i would rate it PG. As always with Virgil, it was an enjoyable. easy read.
Great Book!
Love all the Virgil Flowers series.
Virgil Flowers is one of my all-time favorite characters and John Sanford is one of my favorite authors. I wait for each new book in the series rather impatiently. I’ve read them all and can’t wait for the next.
This is fairly interesting and the events that are investigated ad nauseum seem fetching for about half the book, but the endless chasing down of investigative details just wears you out. For instance, it is important to find out where the key to the storage room is, for whoever has it is the main suspect. but golly, it turns out that there are 8 people with keys, and every one has to be chased down and investigated, and we have to be informed of what road is ridden on to get to somewhere just wears me out. I read one other virgil flowers book, same thing. And, i am tired of everyone having the F word and the S work as a repetitive part of every conversation. And all of a sudden everyone, in this book and others are saying”yup” instead of yep. This has captured the literary world, if you call this literature, like a plague. I have never heard a living person say “yup”, and i am 78 years old.
Horrid, BBgun shooting at flys, splatting, gory….foul language from page one…never again!
Virgil flowers is a colorfull character love reading of his adventures.
This series gets better and better, more intimate and real struggles. The only thing Virgil needs a Black Angels t-shirt.
I love Virgil Flowers! If John Sanford writes about him, I’m going to read it. The story is amusing and interesting, the characters are well written and entertaining. I couldn’t finish the book in one day because I had to go to work, but I did finish it in two days. I’m getting set to read it again, so I can pick up on the little things that I skimmed over during the first read. Please people, read this book!!
Although this is not the worst book in the series it is not the best. A decent story that brings back the investigative team and continues to develop the Virgil and Frankie story line. I hope that the next book will be more of a mystery than this one was which had a more simple plot. I recommend this but advise persons new to the series to try the earlier novels first.
This book was very slow and predictable. I am, or was, a Virgil Flowers fan, but
I won’t spend money on another “Flowers” book in the future.
Ok, I just love Virgil Flowers and the way he thinks.
Keeps you guessing!
Love Virgil Flowers and the areas he “protects”. It is informative while being action-packed and thrilling. Now that he has a “love-life”, even better.
Sanford at his best
