I always like visiting Honey Springs and its inhabitants. Roxy brings so joy to this small town.
Roxy is faced with her aunt Maxine’s shenanigans that influence her business atmosphere.
She is defending the butcher’s wife, Yvonne, against murder charges. Her ex-husband Kirk shows up to represent Jo Beth, the butcher’s daughter. Even though no murder is trivial, I found this an entertaining, witty read. Why would Yvonne confess to a murder she didn’t commit or did she? Roxy has some rocks to overturn before we get to the bottom of this mystery. There are plenty of twists throughout the story.
I also learned more about hemlock. Ms. Kappes does her due diligence in bringing us plausible story lines. Another hit in the Killer Coffee series.
I was provided an advanced reader’s copy and am not required to leave a positive review.
Roxy and Patrick overhear another couple arguing while at dinner at a fancy restaurant. As they leave to go home they follow the same couple and watch as their car goes over the edge of the road and into the water. The husband is dead, and the wife is saved. But then she is charged with murder and hires Roxy to be her lawyer. Little does Roxy know her ex-husband is the lawyer for the deceased’s family. Roxy can’t believe that her client killed her husband, and goes investigating. That is where things start to get crazy! Can Roxy find the real killer? Will she be able to get her Christmas dinner done in time for everyone? A very entertaining story. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
This is the perfect book for cozy mystery readers at this time of the year! I absolutely loved it! the investigation is well written ane captivating until the end ( even if i guessed the culprit early)
Tonya Kappes gives us a wonderful idea of Christmas set in the South and her character Roxy make us live it through her eyes a pure wonder.
The rythm is perfect and as always the pet like Pepper and Sassy just add teh little touch we loves.
Really an excellent book not to be missed
I believe that this series just keeps getting better and better. I loved this cozy mystery based in a small town in Kentucky. I did not want to put this book down. I love the characters. It is great to learn more about these characters as each book in the series comes out. I enjoyed learning a little bit about Hemlock and how deadly it is. I loved the cover of the book. I love the descriptions about the town. I received a copy of this book from the author for a fair and honest opinion that I gave of my own free will.
Loved it and can’t wait for the next one in this series!
“Holiday Roast Mortem” is the seventh book in the “A Killer Coffee Mystery” series. I loved this book and cannot wait for the next one in this wonderful cozy series. The characters are quirky, well developed, and realistic. I particularly love Aunt Maxi; she reminds me of someone I know. The story is well written and engaging, capturing my interest from start to finish, with humour, murder, secrets, lies, and suspense. Throw Roxy’s ex-husband in the mix and it really gets things interesting.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
Holiday Roast Mortem is the 7th in the Killer Coffee series. In this one it’s Christmas time in Honey Springs and Roxy is getting ready to host Christmas dinner but as usual finds herself wrapped up in a murder investigation but this time she goes head to head with her ex husband representing the other side. This is a great read I highly recommend it.
I received an ARC for a honest review
Honey Springs is getting ready for Christmas. Tourists, decorations, and gatherings abound. Roxy and Patrick finally manage to carve some time out for themselves and enjoy a dinner out. However, on the way home, the car in front of them swerves and goes into the lake. Patrick manages to save Yvonne but her husband Ryan doesn’t survive. Unfortunately, it turns out to be murder as Ryan was poisoned. Roxy becomes involved trying to help Yvonne avoid a murder charge.
This is a cozy small town with fun, interesting characters just trying to enjoy the holiday spirit. Great Read!
Holiday Roast Mortem by Tonya Kappes is the seventh A Killer Coffee Mystery. Each book can be read on its own, but why would you not want to read each book in this entertaining series. Holiday Roast Mortem is a fun holiday cozy mystery where Roxy gets an opportunity to dust off her lawyer skills. When Yvonne Moore is suspected of killing her husband, Ryan, she requests that Roxy represent her. Yvonne was seen arguing with her husband the previous night by Roxy, Patrick and a restaurant full of diners. There are also rumors swirling around town that Ryan was having an affair. Roxy believes Yvonne is innocent until a shock has her doubting her instincts. Holiday Roast Mortem has Tonya Kappes’ trademark writing style which is engaging and easy to read. It is like talking with an old friend when I read one of this authors books. I quickly became engrossed in the story and the pages flew by as I tried to figure out who killed Ryan Moore. There is plenty of holiday happenings with the town decked out its finest decorations for tourists plus Roxy and Patrick are decorating their tree. Roxy has planned an elaborate feast for her friends and family for Christmas Day which is being held at The Bean Hive. There might be one less guest after Aunt Maxi tries to steal Bunny’s beau. The mystery was interesting. I liked the method of murder which suited the season. There are several viable suspects and good clues to help readers solve this whodunit. There is an adorable bunny who needs a home and Roxy believes the local bookstore would be the perfect place for it to reside. She just needs to convince the store’s owner. Holiday Roast Mortem is a happy holiday cozy mystery with choice coffee, a beautiful bunny, tasty treats, a conniving killer, dating disharmony, and tree trimming.
Honey Springs Kentucky is once again the lovely setting in this charming cozy/whodunit! The author enables you to draw a complete picture in your mind of the setting and the wonderful cast of quirky characters with the Bean Hive Coffee Shop (owned by the amateur sleuth) being the center of the community when it comes to meeting, gossip, yummy treats (with recipes provided) and of course the best cup of coffee in town! An argument is overheard and the next thing you know a pickup truck is face down in the lake. Tons of twists and turns, laugh out loud humor and a mystery that keeps you guessing until the end! Since there is never a spoiler in my review, that’s all your getting from me…except this final suggestion: This most recent book in this entertaining series is sure to please any cozy over, as is any book in this author’s repertoire. It can be read as a standalone, but you’ll just want to go back and read the rest and each book develops the relationships a little bit more, although, that is not necessary to enjoy this fab book! I received an advanced copy of this book at my request and this is my honest, unsolicited review. Go get this now!
Roxy and her new husband are enjoying a pleasant evening out at a local restaurant. It’s the Christmas season and the lights and decorations give off an enchanted feeling. too bad it’s being marred by the couple at the next table, in full argument mode. Roxy and Patrick are ready to hit the road, having heard more than enough. On their way home they find that they are following the angry couple and witness their car leave the road and plunge into the lake. While Patrick is able to get both of them out of the frigid water, the husband later dies. Turns out it was a death by drowning. He has been poisoned and his wife is the prime suspect. Declaring that she is innocent, she turns to Roxy for help. In her past life, before Patrick, before opening her shop, The Bean Hive, Roxy was a lawyer. Yvonne Moore really needs a good lawyer to shift the investigation into her husbands murder in another direction. Soon things get very complicated when Roxy’s ex-husband, Kirk shows up and shares information that heats things up further.
If that wasn’t enough to deal with, Roxy is preparing her Christmas dinner plans, she has to deal with the continued friction between her Mother and her aunt and run the Bean Hive. That’s a whole lot of stuff to juggle but Roxy will find a way to keep her wits about her and bring a killer to justice.
There is so much to like about this (so far) seven book series. There is always a strong animal theme in each book – Roxy has a pair of fur babies, pups named Sassy and Pepper and she is involved with the local animal shelter. As for the human characters, they are well fleshed out, not cardboard. I’d enjoy this series even if it wasn’t a mystery. The puzzles are so well written, full of twists and blind alleys I usually read well past my bedtime.
This is a great addition to this series. You can also read this a stand alone. Roxy is on the case again. Her and Patrick see an bad accident. The next day Yvonne hires Roxy to represent her. I like how both Spencer and Patrick don’t dismiss the help from Roxy anymore. Things pop up because not is all as it seems. You get a lot of Christmas cheer and talks about the beautiful decorations in this book. I would definitely warm up next to a fire and read this cozy mystery while thinking about lovely Christmas spirit and decorations.
*I received a free copy of this book via author and am voluntarily leaving a review.*
I always look forward to visiting Honey Springs and this time the setting is Christmas. While out to dinner, Roxy and Patrick witness a couple at another table arguing throughout their meal. They leave the restaurant at the same time as the disagreeable couple and end up witnessing their deadly accident. It turns out it wasn’t a simple accident, it was murder. When Roxy is hired to represent the surviving spouse, she is determined to figure out who is truly responsible. This can be read as a stand-alone, but I recommend you read this series in order.
It is Christmas in Honey Springs, Kentucky, and everyone is ready to celebrate! Roxy and Patrick are planning a large Christmas Day meal and celebration for all of their friends at Roxy’s coffee shop, The Bean Hive. When Roxy and Patrick take a break from all their hard work to indulge in a fancy dinner at the Watershed, they overhear a pretty serious argument between Ryan and Yvonne Moore. After dinner, Roxy and Patrick see the Moore’s car slide across the road and into the lake. Despite Patrick’s best efforts, Yvonne is the only survivor of the accident.
After Ryan’s autopsy comes back showing his death was no accident, Roxy becomes involved in investigating his death. Yvonne asks Roxy to be her attorney – Roxy must use all of her legal and sleuthing skills to figure out who killed Ryan and why.
Holiday Roast Mortem is the 7th book in the Killer Coffee series, and it is my favorite so far. I really like Roxy – she is smart, creative, and committed to living a life that makes her happy. Honey Springs, Kentucky, is an ideal small town filled with interesting people and plenty of places to explore. The writing is engaging, the pacing is great, and the storylines are tight. I really enjoyed the mystery aspect of Holiday Roast Mortem – the red herrings threw me off and made the reveal of the killer exciting. If you haven’t read any of the previous books in the Killer Coffee series, Holiday Roast Mortem can be read as a standalone, but I would recommend brewing a pot of coffee and enjoying the series from the very beginning.
Tonya Kappes’s books are a ray of sunshine – I know that I am going to escape into a great setting with characters I love and cozy mysteries that are fun to solve with the main characters.
A huge thank you to Tonya Kappes for the opportunity to read and review an ARC of Holiday Roast Mortem!

Roxy has been quite busy so a meal out with her husband is something she has been looking forward to. While enjoying their meal it continues to be interrupted by a rude couple intent on arguing all night. Review:
The writing style flows smoothly and it defines the characters very clearly by their actions and words. There is a lot of action going on in this book, and that is a great thing. The author is very talented in creating a believable southern setting and I can picture it so vividly in my mind.
The characters are well rounded, well developed and three dimensional. Roxy and Patrick are a great couple and I enjoyed getting to spend time with them. Aunt Maxi can be a pistol but she loves Roxy completely. Getting to spend time with Roxi and her family and friends is time well spent.
The mystery was well plotted and moved along at a steady pace. There were enough clues to sift through and suspects to consider and it was not easily solved, which is the way I like my mysteries.
I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a well crafted cozy mystery. If you are looking for a great holiday read that is funny and has great characters, grab a copy of this book.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book and provided my honest review.
Holiday Roast Mortem is the 7th instalment in the A Killer Coffee Mystery Series by Tonya Kappes. I think this series is tied with the A Camper and Criminals Cozy Mystery Series as my favourite!
I really needed an escape this weekend as my little dog had been hurt and needless to say we were all very upset. I started reading really late in the evening and read right through till morning escaping even if for only a little while.

The mystery is interesting and well plotted. I loved the interaction with Roxy’s aunt and her frenemy Bunny, right down to how everyone seems to be quirky in their own way making for loveable characters which are well developed. I also like the inclusion of fur-babies into the story.
There are plenty of twists and turns in this story, and I kept guessing and second-guessing myself on whodunnit right to the very end. The story moves at a steady pace, and I had a hard time putting it down.
I have only read a few books in the series even though I own them, but I did just order the first 2 in paperback as I love the series that much!
Please note you could read the book as a stand alone, but you will want to read them all.
Did I mention Tonya includes recipes in the back and I am definitely try the Burnt Sugar Cake that Jeannie Daniel submitted.
I cant wait to take another trip to Honey Springs, Kentucky, to see whats new with Roxy and her friends. I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys reading cozy mysteries.
I requested and received an advance reader copy of this book from the publisher. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Holiday Roast Mortem is Book 7 in the Coffee Killer Series by Tonya Kappes.
This is my FAVORITE series. I was so happy to be back in Honey Springs especially at Christmastime.
This small Kentucky town has stolen my heart. I wish I could live there.
Roxy and Patrick are enjoying a nice romantic dinner at their favorite restaurant when they overhear a fight between a couple at a neighboring table. The night goes from bad to worst for that couple.
Next thing you know, Roxy is knee deep in another murder mystery and her lawyer and sleuthing skills are put to the test! This was a twisty murder mystery that was fun and I had no I idea who the killer was until the reveal at the end.
This cozy mystery is well written with cozy southern characters that exude charm.
The characters are so fun and I absolutely love the animals and people in this book.
Highly recommend!
I read an advanced copy for an honest review.
Welcome back to Honey Springs, where the holidays are around the corner and everyone in town is excited.
Unfortunately an accident turns into a murder and it’s up to to Roxy to not only represent the prime suspect, but to figure out why she’s taking the blame for a crime she didn’t commit.
Who is she protecting?
Why was her husband killed?
Will there be more bodies? How many?
What is Roxy’s obnoxious ex doing in town?
Can everything be resolved before Christmas?
So many questions to be answered. So many twists and turns in the book, wondering who is really guilty.
These stories are always a delight to read, with wonderful supporting characters that we have grown to love throughout the series.
Tonya Kappas has another winner.
Holiday Roast Mortem is another entertaining adventure in Kappes’ Killer Coffee cozy mystery series. This book proved to be a great holiday read as Roxy and Honey Springs prepare for the holidays. Roxy and Patrick are enjoying a night out when they are seated next to an arguing couple at the restaurant. Later when going home, they come across a car accident involving the arguing couple where the husband doesn’t survive. When the wife, Yvonne, becomes the prime suspect, Roxy steps in to prove that she is innocent.
Kappes does a great job at creating a compelling holiday read. The Christmas time setting fit in with this tale of a family being shaken by a murder as well as a healing of the past. Having Roxy’s ex-husband involved in the case raises the stakes for Roxy. I loved seeing my favorite secondary characters back again as well as the little side plot involving Roxy’s aunt and friend. These characters always add so much to the story. The book’s mystery is well done and keeps you guessing. Overall Holiday Roast Mortem proved to be an enjoyable holiday read that I would most definitely recommend. I look forward to reading Roxy’s next adventure.
Received a copy of Holiday Roast Mortem from the author in exchange for my honest review.
Christmas is just around the corner and Roxy is planning a Christmas Day dinner for family and friends at the Bed Hive.
Roxy and Patrick hear a couple fighting while out for dinner and then end up witnesses to them driving into an icy cold lake. Patrick dives in to save them but can only save the wife, Yvonne.
The wife becomes the prime suspect in what is now a murder case of her husband Ryan. Well we all know that means Roxy will find a way to nose around into the murder.
Plenty of suspects, lots of twists and turns really kept me guessing until the end. Wonderful holiday read, with southern charm and humor.
I received an ARC prior to publication and decided to voluntarily review it. Opinions expressed are my own.
