Santa is on the warpath in this holiday who-done-it by New York Times bestselling author J.D. Robb.
Lieutenant Eve Dallas faces one of her toughest assignments as a sadistic killer haunts the city dressed as Santa Claus. His calling card: expensive tokens depicting the Twelve Days of Christmas.
Eve has to track a monster terrorizing the patrons of a dating service while trying to block the memories of her own childhood. Thankfully, she has the support of her incredibly talented and sexy husband, Roarke.
This story deals with some tough issues, but adds to the depth of Eve’s character and her relationships on the police force. She often comes across as brash, but underneath, in a place she usually only lets Roarke see, she’s still the abused, lonely little girl who killed her father to survive.
I give Holiday in Death 5 lovely kisses- A must read!
I don’t read a lot of “holiday-themed books” but I typically pull this one out to read around Christmastime. I LOVE all of the JD Robb In Death series (they’re my candy/crack), but there’s a special spark to the earliest books in the series, and this is one of them. Probably because the emotionally troubled Lieutenant Eve Dallas and her incomparably loving husband Roarke share their very first Christmas together. All while she is inevitably trying to solve the latest homicide to hit her desk.
Eve, Roarke and their delightful cast of side characters are the literary equivalent of my vital NCIS fix. I watch the early “Christmastime” NCIS season episodes for the same reason around this time of year. If you need a break from the Christmas chaos, grab Holiday in Death, find a book nook and indulge yourself in a well-done romantic suspense book.
Don’t save it for Christmas!
I finished listening to Holiday in Death by J.D. Robb, finally. I’m behind on my In Death Read A Long Challenge, but I’ll get there.
It doesn’t surprise me that Eve, Peabody, McNab, Feeney, and Roarke have to deal with solving crimes during the Christmas Holiday. Crime never sleeps. This time though, they are looking for a killer in a Santa Claus outfit. It’s up to the crew to find the killer before he or she strikes again.
Poor Eve is putting herself in harm by not letting herself sleep and heal from her past experiences. Roarke is worried about her and puts his foot down with her several times in this book. I love Roarke even more on how he cares for her and puts up with her.
I did kind of figure it out who the killer was eventually because of where J.D. Robb was having Eve and Peabody go in the story. J.D. Robb knows how to write some horrible villains in her novels, which is why I love her books. Even though I figured out the villain in the story, it didn’t stop me from reading the seventh book.
There was a moment in the book where Eve and Peabody had some issues with each other. I was not fond of that because I love these two together and didn’t want them to have a falling out. They made up at the end of the book. Thank goodness.
There was also McNab in the story. He has a thing for Peabody, but they have a hate relationship with each other. I hope to get more of them in the next upcoming books. He has a smart mouth, which is something I like about him. He drives everyone crazy.
Overall, this book gets four stars from me. It may not be my favorite, but I still enjoyed the storyline. I look forward to reading the next book in the series and the next and next. I have some catching up to do and eventually will get there.
If you are a fan of Romantic Suspense, then I highly recommend this series.
Awesome book
I have read all of the in death series by J D Robb. I love the characters and especially Eve and Roack.
she always writes a great book, she has never let me down, most often will read her bks in 1 sitting and then go back later to reread her, that’s how well she writes! if you want great reads JD Robb/aka Nora Roberts won’t disapiont you!
Love all her books especially the In Death books.
I have bought every book since she started with this series. Original idea, very nice reading. Highly recommend it.
I love Roarke and Eve, they are the perfect couple. This book made me smile and laugh out loud. It hit the Christmas season just right without a lot of references to the Christmas symbols. My favorite character is of course, Peabody. I’m glad she had more character time in this installment than in the previous book and we get to know her a lot better.
JD Robb is one of my favorite authors. Her books are fast paced and it is always fun to see what Eve will be up against next.
I love this book and try to read it every Christmas season! Even if you know the outcome, it’s fun to read it again!!
I love all of Nora Roberts books and this series as J D Robb …. great futuristic female detective series !
It has been very interesting watching the progression of the characters in this series.
Here’s a Christmas Santa mystery for you! This book keeps you on edge and again enlists Roarke. The romance continues as Eve searches through the days of December for the killer…Santa. Another romantic page turner.
I enjoy the variety of situations in each of these books.
I love this series!
