Find the strongest man there. Give yourself to him in return for protection. It’s the only way you’ll ever survive.
Convicted of a minor crime, Riana is sentenced to a prison planet—a dark primitive hold filled with convicts vying for power. Her only chance of survival is with Cain, a mysterious loner who has won his territory in the prison through intelligence and brute strength. Sex is all she … strength. Sex is all she has to offer, so she uses it. She’s under no delusions here. No one is ever released, and no one ever escapes. Survival is all she can hope for—until Cain.
An earlier version of this book was published under the same title and a different penname. It has since been substantially revised and expanded.

WOW. This story was fantastic! It’s a sci-fi but don’t let that turn you off. It doesn’t get into gears/gadgets/space politics. It’s just a background for the story, a story that would be hard to tell in anything but a fantasy or sci-fi setting. Rhianna is sent to a prison planet where she’s told by a guard to find the strongest man and offer herself to him in exchange for protection. She picks Cain, this stoic brutish loner and wow, did she ever pick right. It starts out kind of dark romance-ish/dub con-ish… but has a clear HEA.
It’s not often that I relisten to a book right after I’ve listened to it the first time but I’m going to relisten to this one again now to see how it feels knowing what I know about the ending.
Even though there is a second book to this series, the story continues about a different character. I loved this book, the premise and the characters. I wish it had been a little longer and the characters more developed. I did not want it to end.
Hold is a futuristic story where all prisoners go to a prison planet no matter how light or serious their offense is. It’s a place where only the strong survive. The last piece of advice Riana gets before being dumped in the hold was to find the baddest guy there and offer a trade for protection.
This is a shorter story that’s heavy on the steam and incredibly hot. It’s also pretty light on the story. Still, Cain was an intriguing hero and I love the concept of Riana having to rely completely on him to survive the prison. This is what I call a guilty pleasure read and I’m pretty sure I will re-read this in the future.
Wow! I had forgotten how unique this story was! I read this years ago and immediately fell in love with not only these characters, but this style of writing. Now, in response to a challenge, I’ve had the opportunity to reread this one and realize why it left such an impact on me.
This is a story that I’m not sure what sub-genre of romance it would be labeled under. It’s not post-apocalyptic, I don’t think. It’s definitely spicey and has an amazing romance. I guess it’s a Sci-fi erotic romance? Wherever it falls, it fell straight into my heart as it captivated me with it’s original backdrop and storyline.
Riana was one tough girl, but she was also smart enough to know that she was going to need more than just her own abilities to survive in this new life she had been sentenced to. I loved that with one look shared between her and Cain had them both recognizing that they needed or wanted each other.
Cain was one scary, awesome hero. He was alpha without ever thumping his chest to prove it to the world. His ability to control a situation came from simply stepping in and handling it in any way that was required, with the least violence he could manage. I loved how his adjustment and acceptance of Riana went from hot and steamy to sweet and caring without ever losing the sizzle and heat.
I never had the opportunity to read the next book in this series, which is a different couple, so I’ll be digging into that next!
This book was recommended to me by so many different factions in the romance world. The insta-love, sweet, rom-com, angsty, dark, dub-con, and post-apocalyptic world. So as you can see, basically everyone, and that is because it encompasses all these elements. No, really, it does. We have a prison planet in a post-apocalyptic world, a hero and heroine and who make an immediate connection but the reasons they are together, initially, are not choices but survival. They have some truly sweet moments, some really sexy moments, a few laughs, but they are in prison, so there are dangers as well. It all blends perfectly, and now I will be the one to rave about this book!
It had the basic plot of Guardians of the Galaxy. Escaping from a prison planet. Using one’s assets to survive the prison. Great story. Super easy read. Recommended.
Strong characters,
A VERY good read. As it began, I didn’t think it was so great, but I pressed on and was hooked! Clever plot, interesting characters and some good protagonist/antagonist action. If you like this genre, you enjoy this very much!
Not a book I normally would have picked for myself, but I couldn’t stop reading because I wanted to know what was going to happen. I looked up and started reading other books by this author because I liked this book.
Original story with awesome world building. I really enjoyed this book. Good writing and believable characters.
It was a page turner.
I highly recommend this outstandingly original story and characters!!
This is not my normal kind of book, but I thought I’d give it a try. So glad I did. Had a pretty good plot and wasn’t just full of sexual encounters. The writing was well done and free of error, for the most part. Gritty and real. Recommended – give it a chance.
I loved this one! Two great characters leaning on each other for survival in a harsh world.
Just finished this amazing book and will be ordering the books in the series. Loved loved this book. AMAZING

Very good book. I would recommend this author to readers everywhere.
On a scale of 1-10 I’d give it a 4. There was a lot more I’d have liked explored.
Wonderful story about making the best out of a bad situation. I thoroughly enjoyed this book.
