I am really glad to have been introduced to Carly Phillips!
Breathe is the second book in the Rosewood Bay series. I can truly say this can be read as a standalone, I haven’t read the first book and I was able to get into this story just fine.
This story of Phoebe and Jake is just lovely. It has some angst but not overbearing and it flows so smoothly.
Phoebe has had some hard scrabble beginnings in her life and by a horrible twist of fate she is pregnant at 16. She has grown to become independent, loyal and fiercely protective of her son.
Jake to has had a rough childhood and he was able to find some solace with Phoebe when they were younger but that dadsterly fate stepped in again and separated them. Even after the years have gone by, he has never forgotten nor lost his love for Phoebe. But life goes on and things change, but his love stays in the back of his mind.
The swoons in this book are perfect! The romance and steam are fabulous and yet again I have really enjoyed another book by Carly!
Read this book and you will fall in love with the folks of Rosewood Bay!
Breathe is a sweet and moving second chance romance. Jake Nichols and Phoebe Ward were young lovers who were separated before either found out Phoebe was pregnant. Neither ever forgot the other and now 10 years later they have an accidental meeting. Their chemistry is still there but time and secrets make it hard to reconnect. Phoebe is a fierce protector of her son, and she doesn’t know how to tell Jake he is a father. But Jake has some secrets of his own that could ruin any second chance they may have. I really loved how strong and independent Phoebe is. Jake wanted to protect her from any heartache but she proved she was the perfect partner, facing challenges head on. Jake was open and honest and determined to not waste time and risk losing the woman he has always loved. This is a quick, sweet and sexy story and a great addition to this series. I can’t wait for Julliette’s story next in Freed.
I was so looking forward to this story after reading Fearless and I wasn’t disappointed. I LOVED this book, even more than I did book 1 (Fearless).
I am a huge fan of the single parent storyline and the fact that this was also a second chance romance just made it even better. My only wish is that we would’ve gotten to see the kids in the story a little more, especially Callie. But it didn’t take anything away from my enjoyment of this book.
Breathe is the second book in Carly Phillips Rosewood Bay Series. It is a standalone and can be read that way, but I would suggest reading Fearless first. You will just have a better appreciation of Phoebe and her connection with her sister Halley (heroine in Fearless) This story is told in Dual POV from the third person. I thought the pace and flow of this story worked perfectly. I also loved that this book just jumps right into the story right from page 1. I read this book in a days time. Not because it is a short book, but because I couldn’t put it down. I was so intrigued with this story I couldn’t wait to see how it turned out.
In this story we follow Phoebe and Jake. Phoebe is Halley’s sister and a real estate agent. She is a single mother to Jamie (11 years old) Phoebe grew up in the foster care system until her aunt Joy came a got both her and her sister Halley. While Phoebe was in a foster family’s care she met Jake. They fell in love during that time and Phoebe ended up pregnant. When they are caught together, Jake was kicked out of the foster home and Phoebe lost touch with him. Before she could tell him she was pregnant. Fast forward 11 years and Phoebe is going to a job site to over see the renovations when she runs into Jake again. What will happen with these two when they reunite?? Can they get their HEA? How will Jake respond when he finds out about Jamie?? What happens when Jake’s past won’t go away?? Find out the answers to these and more questions when you read this book.
I would 100% recommend this book/series to everyone. If you are a fan of the single parent romance and also a second chance romance, then this is one you will WANT to read!!!. This is definitely one of my favorites. I look forward to reading the next book in the series…FREED (it’s about the sister they don’t know, Juliette)
Breathe, the second book in Carly Phillips’s Rosewood Bay series is WONDERFULLY written, utterly satisfying, perfectly sweet and oh so charming! So far, I am really loving these Roswood Bay stories. And Breathe really captured my heart right from the synopsis. This a second chance romance that I enjoyed ever so much. Sweet with sigh worthy romance, I loved EVERY SINGLE THING about this book. Carly Phillips doesn’t disappoint. The fact that my heart gets tugged gently and fully with the characters and the romance that is both sexy as can be and adorable too, made this story extra special to me.
Jake and Phoebe were meant to be together. From what happened in their pasts to them meeting up again and Jake learning that he is a father to them falling in love again just showed me a happily ever after that I plainly cherished with my whole soul and heart. I am already anticipating the next glorious read in this addicting series!
Breathe gets a FANTASTIC FIVE SHOOTING STARS!
“She felt as if she could finally breathe after all these years” – Phoebe
I love second chances and “Breathe” is a great one for the record books. Breathe is Phoebe’s story and whom we met in her sister’s book “Fearless”. Phoebe is a single mom working hard to make a great life for her son. When she gets a fantastic job in helping with the remodel of a home she feels like she is on top of her game in real estate. What she didn’t expect was to come face to face with her past. Jake is from her past and when they were torn apart during their time in foster care, Phoebe left with a little part of Jake. Jake had a less favorable childhood until someone took him under their wing and made him into the man he is today. Phoebe and Jake had this love they didn’t quite get over because they were taken away from one another. Jake tried to move on with his life by getting married, but he couldn’t quite get passed Phoebe. Phoebe dated but never quite got over Jake and when he resurfaces she doesn’t know what to do. When Jake finds out about his son there is nothing that will stand in his way of getting reacquainted with Phoebe and his son.
Phoebe must get forget about her past to move on with Jake, but she lets her insecurities shine through. Jake is all about the wanting his second chance and he will do nothing to jeopardize that. I thought Phoebe’s story was going to be as epic as Halley’s was, but it fell a little short for me. The chemistry and love were there but Phoebe’s character fell a little flat. I still loved the fact that this is a second chance at love and there was not crazy drama. Phoebe was a little dramatic, but she was also sweet and loving. Jake is the man and he was filled with determination and fire. This is a beautiful story of finding your love again and fighting the demons of the past to make a beautiful future.
*Received an ARC via booksprout and I’m voluntarily giving my honest review*
*Sighs* Jake just made me swoon all over! I love when Carly brings us into her world for Second Chance romance. Phoebe is just a sweetheart that has some demons that she is afraid to face. With Jake by her side, we can only hope that she will come out of this stronger.
Breathe gives you the ups and downs on the emotional roller coaster category. With Jake’s new found family, he also has the present that he needs to straighten out before he can even have a real shot with his first love.
Carly Phillips can bring you short stories that you are guaranteed the drama, the angst, the heat level that is through the roof, and some hot alpha males that will make your knees weak. Breathe was a great short story that I did not even think about putting down until the end!
WOW!! WOW!! WOW!! I was blown away by how much I loved Breathe, book two in Carly Phillips’ Rosewood series. Phoebe Ward had a difficult life before her aunt discovered her and her younger sister in separate foster homes. After leaving the foster care system, sixteen year old Phoebe gives birth to a baby fathered by her teen love Jake Nichols, who also lived in this foster home. Unfortunately Jake was removed from the home before Phoebe left. Unable to track him down, he never knew about his son. Now the mother of an eleven-year old Phoebe unexpectedly encounters Jake at a house he is remodeling for her client. Poor Phoebe did not know how to inform the divorced father of a six-year old that he also had a son. Jake’s greatest problem was his ex-wife’s acceptance that they were divorced and he could live his own life. In fact, he wanted to rekindle the relationship he once had with Phoebe.
Although appearing to be a confident, altogether adult, Phoebe still had innate fears from her time in the foster care system. These fears almost kept her from successfully having that second chance with Jake. Jake knew how fragile and hesitant Phoebe was about having that relationship with him. Fortunately for Phoebe, and us readers, he was patient enough to wait until she could admit what was holding her back from him. He was truly the perfect match for Phoebe and I now have a new book boyfriend.
Ms. Phillips is a wonderful storyteller as demonstrated in this amazing story and the characters she created for it. I really enjoyed reading this book and had a lot of trouble putting it down. This is a great story with plenty of angst, tugging at the heartstrings, romance and some sexy time. I highly recommend this book to other readers and am looking forward to the next book in this series.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
BREATHE by Carly Phillips is book Two in the Rosewood Bay Series. This is the story of Jake Nichols and Phoebe Ward. I haven’t yet read the previous book, so for me this was a standalone book.
Jake and Phoebe had met in a foster care and fell in love…but they were just teenagers. They were caught and Jake was sent away and by then Phoebe Aunt found her.
Years later they happen to meet again where we learn Jake is divorced with a daughter named Callie. Phoebe fell pregnant at 16 by Jake and had a son named Jamie . Jake never knew she was pregnant when they were separated. Now Phoebe has to tell Jake about Jamie and deal with the feelings that didn’t go away.
Great second chance at love story.
4.5 star review Breathe (Rosewood Bay #2) by Carly Phillips
Not only is this the second book in the series, but it is also a second chance at love story and is about Jake Nichols and Phoebe Ward.
Both Jake and Phoebe met when they were in foster care and fell in love. Circumstances tore them apart and yet they never forgot their first loves, particularly Phoebe as their love resulted in her son.
Life hasn’t been easy for Jake and Phoebe; Jake having found himself in prison thanks to his anger issues has now turned his life around and settled down spending his time working and looking after his 6 year old daughter.
Imagine the shock they both feel when circumstances bring them together again; particularly Phoebe who unsuccessfully searched for Jake. Jake is now a divorced single father and a successful general contractor. Phoebe is a successful real estate agent who is now in charge of Jake’s latest project.
What will happen when Jake finds out about the son he never knew he had? Can Jake and Phoebe move on from the past and take the chance that fate has dropped at their feet?
Can Phoebe overcome her feelings of abandonment and give Jake a chance to be a father to their son? To make a future together and for them all to become a family; or will Jake’s ex-wife get in the way?
The chemistry between Jake and Phoebe sizzles, their story romantic. I really liked both Jake and Phoebe and found myself engrossed in their story.
I have found from previous books that Ms. Phillips has a strong writing style and Breathe is no exception. Her characters are strong and easy to relate too. I particularly liked how she built the story up.
Although a stand alone I do think you would enjoy reading book 1 Fearless as well. This series gets better and better and I cannot wait for the next book in the Rosewood Bay series.
***4 Stars***
After reading the little tease of what was coming up for Phoebe at the end of Fearless I couldn’t wait to get my hands on Breathe, and I have to say this was a great read. It was a quick, fun and smexy read that had a couple of twists in it that I didn’t see coming, but really liked how they were the catalyst for getting Jake and Phoebe to their HEA.
Jake is a good man. He may have had a difficult childhood, but he’s learned from it and become more than he probably thought he would be. He has a good heart and when he wants something he doesn’t back down until he gets it. Phoebe’s past isn’t all wine and roses, but she’s gotten through with a positive way of looking at the world and a lot of determination. She loves her family and will do what needs to be done to make sure they thrive.
Jake and Phoebe’s second chance at love journey was a fun one, and the Jake found out about his son was definitely not expected. I really liked Jake and Phoebe together. The chemistry was still there, even though they hadn’t seen each other for years, and I liked how they were together once the awkwardness wore off. There was a good bit of drama going on, but it never got into the angsty OTT arena and I actually like how one issue ended up being a much needed kick in the butt towards them getting their HEA.
This really was a fun second chance/secret baby romance. I loved the twists and turns and how everything was handled in the end. It was fun to get a little time with Aunt Joy as well as catching up with Halley and Kane. But with that little tease of Freed at the end, I’m definitely looking forward to meeting Juliette!

I’m loving these Ward ladies…. strong, accomplished, independent women!!! This 2nd book in the Rosewood Bay series is Phoebe and Jake’s story and it will definitely keep you on the edge of your seat with a second chance romance and a child he doesn’t know existed. Are you ready for one captivating, heartwarming beautiful ride?
Breathe is the second book in the Rosewood Bay Series and is a second chance romance between Jake Nichols and Phoebe Ward. Book 1, Fearless was Phoebe’s sister Halley’s story.
Both Jake & Phoebe were foster kids when they first met and fell in love. Things happen to break them apart and years later they find each other after only living a town away from each other and not knowing it.
Jake and Phoebe are relatable and likable characters. So much so that I got lost in the land of make believe and didn’t want to come back to the real world. (meaning the end)
I give Breathe 4.5 stars and now I can’t wait to find out about Juliette Collins the missing sister.
Phoebe is a single mother and a real estate agent. She was in foster care when she got pregnant. Now years later she’s overseeing a renovation when she walks in and the main contractor is her son’s father. Jake was a troubled teen, in and out of foster homes. When he was caught in bed with Phoebe, he was thrown out. He landed in prison later but has learned to control his temper. He has a six year old daughter and finds out he has a son too. Jake has always loved Phoebe and wants another chance to make a future with her and his kids. Phoebe still has insecurities about abandonment so she is a afraid of getting emotionally involved with Jake. With her fears and Jake’s ex wife can he convince her to give them a chance? Excellent story with characters you can relate to. Steamy sex, second chance at love, and an ex who won’t let go. * Voluntarily read and reviewed this for the author *
I am absolutely loving this new series from Carly Phillips! This is Book 2 and it is about Phoebe Ward, Halley’s sister from Fearless, Book 1. It is a sweet and wonderful second chance romance with such a great story line and amazing characters. Phoebe is a successful realtor and she is so strong and relatable, and just an incredible single mom to her son Jamie. Jake Nichols has done very well in construction and is a very sexy divorced father to his 6 year old little girl Callie. He is such a hardworking and all around great guy who has come a long way. He is a great dad spending as much time with his daughter every week and is even always there for his ex when she calls with any problems with Callie and he also
helps them generously financially.
Phoebe and Jake met in foster care and fell in love but because Phoebe was only 16, Jake got taken out of the home and she never saw him again until now, 11 years later. So he has no idea what he missed out on all these years. Once he does though he wants nothing more than Phoebe and Jamie and what he has been missing.
They are so good together! Sweet, sexy and steamy, you just can’t help but cheer them on.
Their chemistry is still incredible and because their feelings never really went away it was easy
to rekindle that fire! But the reality of their
lives complicates things a bit. Can they get over some minor hurdles and have the future together they both deserve more than anything as a family?
Great read. Jake and phoebe are wonderful together. They lost contact from when they were in a foster home together. Which means Jake doesn’t know that Jamie is his son and Phoebe doesn’t know everything that went on with Jake when they lost track of each other. Second Chance with a unknown child can you get any better then you have Carly Phillips write the book and I could not put this down. Wonderful story characters are fantastic and I still get glimpses of Kane and Halley.
I cannot wait for the next story in this series with Juliet’s story.
I received an advanced copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
I am loving the Ward sisters! Although they have their problems and insecurities stemming from their past, they don’t play petty games. Once they know what they want and can jump those hurdles, they are all in. So great to read!
Phoebe and her sister Halley ended up in the foster system when their mother went to jail. In her foster home she met Jake, a troubled, hot-headed boy also in the foster system who only she could calm. At 16 Phoebe fell in love with him. Shortly after they get caught and Jake ends up getting kicked out of the house. Then when Phoebe finds out she’s pregnant her Aunt finds her and her sister and rescues them. More than 10 years go by and Phoebe is never able to find Jake and tell him he’s a father.
Jake let his temper full him too often and ends up getting in trouble and spending 6 months in prison. After getting out he is introduced to a man who helps him turn his life around and make something of himself. He ends up marrying, having a daughter with, and divorcing his mentors daughter.
This is a beautiful second chance romance. Although they lost a lot of time that they could of been together for, both Jake and Phoebe grew into the people they are today and learned the value of treasuring the things they have between each other more. I’m looking forward to finally read the mysterious Juliette’s book next! Cannot wait!
