Love might have a chance… if her family stays out of it.
When Knox Campbell goes to Portugal for a short business trip, he never planned on losing his documents. Now he’s stranded in Porto, his passport lost, and his credit cards canceled. Unable to return to the US and without a place to stay, Knox turns to the travel agent who suggested the local day attractions for assistance. Jacinta Romano … attractions for assistance.
Jacinta Romano loves helping her clients set up their dream trips, although she doesn’t usually meet the ones visiting from abroad. But all that changes when a client shows up at the agency while her meddling family are still there. They latch on to him immediately, insisting Jacinta bring him home while he’s stranded. Thankfully, he’s only staying until his new passport arrives and after two weeks of playing hostess, she’ll be glad to send him on his way.
Or will she?
The Romano Family series follows the stories of the Romano cousins of northern Portugal as they find love and their Happily-Ever-Afters.

Lucinda Whitney’s books are always a treat to read!
Hold Me at Twilight
Romano Family Series, Book 1
By: Lucinda Whitney
Narrated by: Mary Jane Conlon
What happens when your wallet is stolen in a foreign country? Knox Campbell finds out when his wallet is stolen and now he can’t leave Portugal to get back to the states. With the help of Jacinta Romano, a travel agent, the retrieval of documents to allow him to travel is put into place, but it will take some time. With no money, ID or a place to stay, Jacinta’s family welcomes Knox into their home. For the next several weeks, Knox gets to be part of the true flavors of Portugal. When it’s time to leave, will he and Jacinta’s time be over? This is a quick and very visual story. The story while predictable is fun, the family is a riot and the romance budding between Knox and Jacinta sweet. It’s a clean, fun listen leaving you with some smiles and a happily ever after to fill your heart.
The narration by Mary Jane Conlon is spot on. Her accent, her voices and pronunciations make the story flow, easy to follow and kept my interest the entire time. I enjoyed her comedic timing with the family and the warmth inflected in her voice with Knox and Jacinta. It is an enjoyable listen.

Hold Me at Twilight is the first installment from the Romano Family series. I enjoyed this sweet story. It was fun travelling to Portugal.
I give Hold Me at Twilight four stars and recommend it.
I received this book from the author, but was not required to write a review. This review is 100% my own honest opinion.
Knox is stranded without papers or credit cards and cannot speak enough of the language to file a police report. The only one he knows to turn to is Jacinta, a local travel agent who helped him with plans to fill his free time on this business trip. But neither one of them planned on her nosy family interfering and trying a bit of matchmaking.
This is an amusing short novel that stretches my imagination when it comes to family relationships.
Sweet Clean Romance!
Delightful quick, easy read! Heartwarming characters and interesting storyline. I loved the funny anecdotes regarding Jacinta’s large, crazy family, Portuguese history and the HEA ending. I look forward to reading more of the Romano family series. Enjoy!
This is such a sweet short story. Knox is an American visiting Portugal and gets his wallet stolen. He turns to travel agent Jacinta for help. Her crazy family takes him in and he falls in love with all of them and especially Jacinta. The family antics were great and the ending was perfect.
Tender Passage
I have been reading these out of order which is a bit of a shame since one gets to know many different family members and if you haven’t met them yet, the nuances can get lost–but the stories nonetheless stand quite well on their own! In this delightful beginning to the set an American visiting Portugal carelessly allows his wallet, with passport, to be stolen shortly before he is scheduled to return home. Turns out to be the best thing to ever happen to him! I enjoyed learning a bit of Portuguese, which is made easier by listening to Mary Jane Conlon’s narration–she clearly learned how to pronounce words which DON’T quite sound the way they are spelled in English and are different from their Spanish counterparts as well.
A lovely story! The characters were all delightful and I loved everyone! Jacinta and Knox are super cute, and they make a even cuter couple. I really liked Jacinta’s meddling family, and there were lots of fun moments with them. I loved the setting of the book as well!
Although some of the events were a bit unrealistic, it was still a wonderful story! Great introduction to the series. Can’t wait to read more about them in the books to come.
A great book if you’re looking for a short, sweet read.
Hold Me at Twilight is book one in the Romano Family series. This is a quick but enjoyable read. Knox is stranded when his passport goes missing. In need of help, he turns to the travel agent, Jacinta. They end up spending time together, and Knox gets more than he was searching for. I really liked this story, and I do recommend it.
Another instalment in the romantic lives of the Romano family, Hold me a Twilight is a sweet love story that touches the heart. Knox finds himself stranded after having his documents and wallet stolen, and Jacinta steps up to assist him in reporting the matter to the police. Her family immediately latch onto Knox recognising in him something special and they persuade Jacinta to bring him home for dinner. A sweet love affair develops between the two as they spend days together waiting for Knox’s documentation to arrive. Ultimately the time comes when Knox must return home, leaving her behind. I love Lucinda Whitney’s love stories they are clean, romantic and full of family. The story is no less enchanting and left this reader with a smile on her face. Although part of a series, this book is a standalone with a very satisfactory ending. I received a copy of this book as a gift and this is my honest and voluntary review.
I really enjoyed this short story. It is a great introduction to the Romano family. I want more of these characters. Nice character development and a charming love story.
It’s love at first sight when Knox meets Jacinta at her family’s travel agency in Portugal after his wallet is stolen and he needs a translator to report it to the police. Her crazy loud family doesn’t scare him and they even offer him a place to stay while he waits for a new passport. He doesn’t want to live without Jacinta, so he makes plans to relocate his web developer business from America. Sweet romance about bad luck leading to the love of a lifetime.
All the books are well written, with interesting characters and realistic dialog, and intriguing storylines. The books are clean and don’t have the annoying Stupid formula. (Characters act immature, don’t communicate their feelings and problems while having sex all the time they’re together: the Stupid formula.) Ms. Whitney shows that the plots can have suspense and intrigue without the stupidity.
Lucinda Whitney, Meet Me At Sunrise – Clean, fun, romantic. A well written, warmhearted romance set on a river cruise ship, with a touch of intrigue. The believable, interesting characters and plot grab your attention and the next thing you know, the story is finished. There’s an overview of the book, which I appreciate. Two of the main characters were introduced in Meet Me At Twilight, another delightful read. I contacted the author to review her books.
Lucinda Whitney, Hold Me At Twilight – A well written, warmhearted romance with more members of the Romano family, featured in Meet Me At Sunrise. The believable, interesting characters and plot grab your attention and the next thing you know, the story is finished too quickly. There’s an overview of the book, which I appreciate. Two of the characters from this book are main characters in Meet Me At Sunrise, a delightful novel.
Lucinda Whitney, Love Me At Sunset – Another well written, intriguing romance with some characters we’ve met before, both good and bad. They’re believable and realistic. The plot is well thought out and is more than just a romance. The Romano family series has been entertaining and hopefully, there may be more? There’s an overview of the story, which I appreciate knowing what the book is about before reading it.
A Small Chance – I have loved every book that pertains to the group of characters from the Portugal Series and this novella isn’t any different. A heartwarming, well written romance with a twist in the history and the present of the two main characters. The intriguing storyline keeps the reader immersed in the pages. The interesting characters are realistic and have mature thoughts, actions and dialog; no stupid formula here. A Small Chance is a pleasant way to spend a couple of hours relaxing. Has an overview, which I appreciate knowing the storyline before hand. There’s a two chapter preview included of The Secret Life of Daydreams, a couple of delicious looking recipes, as well as the usual stuff books contain.
Lucinda Whitney is a new-to-me author and I must say I was very pleased with her clean, sweet romance, Hold Me at Twilight. I love the setting in Portugal and the big family shennanigans,(that reminded me a bit of My Big Fat Greek Wedding). Jacinta is lovely and kind, just the type of person to draw out frustrated, American, Knox who has lost all his credentials while traveling in a foreign country. How they fall in love in the midst of noisy, nosy family is part of the fun. How they keep that love with an ocean between them…well, you need to read the book. I received this book for joining the author’s newsletter.
This is a cute, short romance. I really liked Knox and Jacinta. I admired Knox’s ability to ask for help, and Jacinta’s giving nature. The Romano family is great! They are so close and truly care about each other. I loved Jacinta’s mom and aunt! They are a riot! The fact that they could say things to Jacinta without Knox understanding made for some great interactions.
Time passes very quickly in the book. I wanted to know more of what happened during the weeks Knox and Jacinta were together, but that wasn’t possible with the length of the book. I was still satisfied. There were some great romantic moments! And I loved the ending!
The book is set in Portugal, and I felt like I was taken there. I’m looking forward to going back through other books in the series.
I really loved this fast read about Knox and Jacinta. This may be a fast read, but it has love, laughter (you have to watch those teenage cousins, lol), tears, and most of all a big caring family. I recommend everyone to read this introductory book to the Romano family.
Romantic, funny and great chemistry in this novella. Sweet, clean romance.
When Knox asks Jacinta for help when his passport was stolen he had no idea what would happen next. This is a short, sweet and funny introduction to the Romano family and a lovely stand-alone romance and HEA for Knox and Jacinta. I definitely recommend this book.
**Audiobook Review** I was given a copy of this audio book for an honest review. Lucinda Whitney delivers another dynamic story. This is a very sweet, clean short story. Mary Jane Conlon does a fantastic job narrating this story. This is the first bom in the Romano family series. I’m looking forward to reading/listening to the rest of the books in this series.
