I have been impatiently waiting for the chance to start the Belltown series and I am psyched that the series has such a great “opener.” The obvious chemistry between Sawyer and Erica is charming, pulling you into their comfortable relationship, and joining them as they both try to work through the trials of their pasts. My heart went out to Erica, as Sawyer became annoyingly self-focused, leaving everyone, including Erica, in the dust. I understand where he was coming from, but that didn’t stop me from wanting to reach through the pages and shake him.
Despite my frustration with Sawyer, I absolutely adored Hitching the Pitcher. The ending was so sweet and I must admit that Sawyer did eventually win me over. I am already in love with The Six Pack and can’t wait to really get to know the rest of the guys! Great start to the series!!
Just rating on enjoyment alone: 4 stars
I love that it was a baseball romance. This is typical second chance for past loves romance. Sawyer was a idiot.
Will I read the next one in the series? Yes
Yes, the pitcher was quite the idiot!
This was a light read for me. Yes the pitcher really did have a secret but you won’t find out what it is until you’re passed the halfway mark. Sawyer can’t let anyone know for some odd reason and when he finally told Erica it was kinda… OK, really? so what now? Sawyer had left Erica once because of it like it was some big deal. Nevertheless, it seemed that Erica was pretty forgiving of Sawyer and they were back together without much thought. Now that they’ve reunited he knew he should tell her so she would understand what happened and that it had nothing to do with her. Well, it was happening again. His secret was throwing him off his game after witnessing another great pitcher throw out his elbow. He realized if it ever happened to him where would he be? So he and Erica split up again. Yes, he was quite the idiot! I’m glad they finally worked things out. I enjoyed their banter back and forth. It was cute and entertaining. Furthermore, the relationships and camaraderie that the Belltown Six Pack had brought a smile to my face. This was an enjoyable light read.
I don’t think you need to know much about baseball to enjoy the story. Seriously, psychology would be more helpful to the reader. Then you could study Sawyer to figure out what is going on in that head of his. He seemed to live in extremes. He was either funny and playful or intense and overly serious. I pretty much think Erika is a saint in her patience with him. I don’t think I would have been that forgiving.
However, I do love a good second chance story and so there is that. Three chances for Sawyer. Like I said, Erika is a saint.
The story moves quickly and doesn’t get too bogged down. It is an enjoyable read.
Sex: some kisses
Language: brief
Violence: no
This was a cute story. It was well developed with good characters. I love the way Connolly writes a love story. I didn’t get a lot of the baseball talk. Just not my cup of tea but I like anything Rebecca writes.
This is a fun premise for a series and a good escape read. I did like the story line and characters. The H was broken in ways after the death of his father and that pushed the h away. That did get me frustrated with the H and a bit with the h for taking it. However, when I thought of it as a way of dealing with grief and just life I can see how that could happen. In life we don’t always make the best desicions for ourselves so that part of the story is very believable. The h was a good support for him and patient. I thought it was a swett second chance romance. I liked the support characters in helping the H. (The H can pysch himself out with his head talk. I know how that goes!) The camaraderie with the six-pack was nice.
Hitching the Pitcher is the first book in a series featuring college baseball friends who make it into the MLB. This first book features Sawyer, who has achieved the status of starting pitcher for his team.
While reading the book, I liked the theme of baseball and enjoyed getting to know about the ins and outs of major league baseball. I also liked getting to know the various guys who will be featured in upcoming books.
My criticism is with the main character, Sawyer. I was constantly thinking that he’s a test case for paranoia or OCD. He completely shuts down and becomes single focus every time something bad happens. Instead of reaching out to his friends and family for support, he isolates himself and becomes single minded on baseball. While that’s good for winning games, it’s not good for romance. Consequently, he dumped Erica when they were dating in college. Fast forward a few years and they’ve reconnected and the emotions are still there. Unfortunately, it doesn’t appear that he’s changed that much. His paranoia got old and I wondered how long Erica would continue to forgive him and coddle him along. Finally, when he confessed his big secret, I wondered why it was a secret to begin with.
However, in spite of these criticisms, I still enjoyed the book. The interactions between Sawyer and Erica felt very real and well written. And, I enjoyed getting to know the other members of the Six Pack. They seem like a great group of guys.
Romance – PG / Kissing
Language – PG / mild cursing
Violence – A character in the book suffers an injury during a game.
My rating – 3 stars
I loved this book! And I can already tell I’m going to love the series. The Six Pack is a great group of guys, with a deep friendship. The pitcher seemed like the perfect place for the series to start. I really liked Sawyer, but got so frustrated with him sometimes. Head games and head space can make such a difference. I ached for him and what he put himself through. Sometimes it takes multiple tries to figure things out, and that was definitely the case for him. Erica was so patient! Much more than many would be. She was a great example of loving someone completely. It was wonderful to see them finally get their happy ending!
I received a complimentary copy of the book, which I voluntarily reviewed. I have given my honest opinion.
