Mae West is happy living in Normal Kentucky. She is proud of the success of Happy Trails Campground. She just wishes that she wasn’t involved in another murder. She found the body of Jay Russel. I love Mae. She’s feisty and determined. She won’t be told what to do. Hank, her boyfriend and a local detective, knows how stubborn she can be. I enjoy seeing these two battle. I want their relationship to blossom. I was pulled into the mystery. There were multiple suspects, a decades old bank robbery and a mysterious backpacker. The action was nonstop. I love visiting Normal. The quirky characters make me smile as do Fifi and Chester. Tonya Kappes has a style of writing that I enjoy. Her characters are full of life and her dialogue is smart and sassy. I,also, like the recipes and cleaning hacks that she included.
Hitches, Hideouts & Homicide by Tonya Kappes is number seven in A Camper & Criminals Cozy Mysteries, her latest fast-growing series. I say fast-growing because the more you read, the more you want. And you want it NOW!
Mae and her friends in Normal, Kentucky, are so easily likeable, and this includes Normal as a character in the books. You can see the town, experience the old-time small town feel, and smell the diner food, the very Kentucky blue-grass.
This time out Mae is hanging with her new friends when the body drops. And Mae just can’t keep her nose out of the investigation. The Laundry Club Ladies smell a mystery and get right out there hunting for clues. But just how safe can it be for these amateur sleuths to chase a Killer?
Kappes hit another home run, right out of the park, with this one. Is it any wonder she is on my automatic 1-click list?
I love this camper series—it’s book no. 7, but works well as a stand-alone. I enjoy a good southern cozy mystery, and this is right up there with the best. I love revisiting these characters every few months—they feel like old friends. The main character is particularly likable and she has a well-rounded group of buddies. I can usually take or leave the romance in cozies, but in this case I’d really like smoother sailing and for the relationship to progress. The mystery was really intriguing, as usual, with lots of suspects. I was surprised but very satisfied with the ending. I can’t recommend this book and series enough. I was provided an ARC of this book, but the opinions are mine.
Hitches, Hideouts, & Homicides by Tonya Mapped is the 7th book in the Camper and Criminals Cozy Mystery Series and another wonderfully written story.
In this book you get to visit Mae and the gang as they try to figure out who the killer is and if there truly was a bank robbery so many years ago.
Every book is like coming home to visit friends and family.
