Hit the Wall is the second book in the Blythe College series and Rochelle Paige’s second book. I really loved her debut novel, Push the Envelope, but Jackson’s story blew me away.
Summary:
Jackson Silver is hurting after watching his childhood friend and the girl he wanted for himself, fall in love with another man. He’s felt something for Alexa for a long time, but he knew she needed time to be ready to date again after what happened to her. So while he was waiting, he sampled what college had to offer. A lot. Now, he’s confused about his feelings and the fact he didn’t sabotage their relationship when he had the chance. He’s also come the realization that he may have lost his chance because of his penchant for one-night stands. Luckily, all of his preconceived notions about love and relationships are knocked out the window when he meets Kaylie. Kaylie Rhodes understands loss. Losing both her parents as a teenager helped to strengthen the wall she puts up around her to keep people out. She has her best friend and dance, and that’s what she focuses on. When Kaylie meets Jackson in person, she can’t help but admire his sexy body and his ability to send shivers down her spine, but Jackson isn’t into dating and his intensity promises that he would demand more from her. Jackson surprises them both in his determination to date Kaylie. She’s different from any other girl, even Alexa, and Jackson wants to be the only man for her. The chemistry between them isn’t in doubt, and just being together brings them each peace. But, there are communication issues and important discussion are pushed aside in favor of not arguing or worse, losing the other. Jackson has some explaining to do about his feelings for his childhood friend, while Kaylie has kept an enormous secret from Jackson about her future career and where she’s going. Both Jackson and Kaylie will have to learn to trust each other, as well as confide in each other or risk their explosive relationship going down in flames.
I really liked Kaylie. She was sweet, yet with an underlying steel in her spine that made her the perfect heroine. Her vulnerability and fear of being left alone drew me in, and I was rooting for her and Jackson from page one. Jackson, I loved him in book one for his determination in keeping his sister and her best friend safe, but he really captured my heart in Hit the Wall. I loved everything about him. He was confused and unsure, yet totally in control and sexy as hell. And the romance he brought to the table was astounding and had me wanting to jump in the book to take Kaylie’s place. Together, their insta-chemistry and explosive passion swept me up in their journey and refused to let me out until the last words. My only complaint is I couldn’t get a peak into the future in an epilogue. I’m looking forward to Aubrey’s story and finding out why she’s decided to take a break from dating. Rochelle Paige has come out of left field, determined to take the writing world for her own, and she’s gotten a fan for life in me. <3
After being introduced to Jackson in “Push the Envelope”, I wanted to see how things worked out for him. And I’m so glad that I did! I really loved Jackson, and I loved how Kaylie was with him. I do wish there had been a little more at the end, but seeing as there are six books in this series, I will probably get more in subsequent books.
I can’t wait for more!
