‘Kissing you is like touching a live wire’
Wham! Bliss and torture, passion and fear, corruption and obsession…Freya Barker does not hold back and in this first book of the series we get it all.
PASS has a very eclectic mix of staff but each bring their own skill set and although they may not be blood, they are family. Hutch is usually all about the job, focused and efficient…get in, complete mission, get out…but this time he finds something more important than the job. The fact that he has no idea what those feelings are, or what to do with them, could easily break your heart BUT the fact he follows his heart anyway and embraces Rosie and all the feelings she creates, has you willingly handing your heart to him.
A fantastic book and I look forward to many more in the series.
Freya does it again. She creates such an amazing world you don’t want to leave! I want to know Jake and I deserve a best friend like Grant!
You will hope, you will laugh, you will cry, and you will love.
Every single page, every single minute, every single word.
What a thrill this book was…I particularly loved that Rosie is 42….and HAS A LIFE
Thankyouverymuch
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I swear this woman can’t write a bad book! Not even one half interesting. Every single book I have read by Freya has made me fall in love with the characters and the world they live in. To include this one. I was sucked in within the first few pages… chapter two made me not want to put it down. (Too bad life got in the way! Lol!)
Jake and Rosie meet at the hotel where she is a maid. He’s there for security work.
For one reason or another (not getting into it), Jake reaches out to her and they finally go on a date for food.
Date might be stretching it at this point.
You just gotta read the book.
I love the supporting characters in this one as well And I hope each brother gets there own story written.
This is book one in this new series.
I highly recommend you try this action packed love story. You will not be disappointed!
Nobody does mature romance like Freya Barker and this book is another perfect example of her talent!
”Love is equal parts bliss and torture – it’s passion and fear – and once discovered, it becomes as essential as breathing.”
I loved both Rosie and Jake. Their relationship was a little bit of a slow burn after an insta-attraction, which I loved. While they each had baggage from their past, they never really allowed it to interfere with what they were building between them. I expected Rosie to firmly push Jake away but what little bit she attempted was quickly diminished by his determination to learn more about her.
”The quiet, hardworking Rosie may have caught my attention, but this feisty and passionate version I’m getting to know, is holding it.”
Rosie was strong and independent yet insecure due to the way she was raised. Her enlightenment into being more than enough for Jake was beautiful and I loved that it didn’t take a huge wallop on her head to get her to that point. It was very real, very believable, and absolutely perfect.
While Jake wasn’t a chest thumping alpha hero, he was plenty protective and exhibited just enough grumpiness during jealous periods to keep me more than happy with his character.
”He wasn’t hiding me, or ashamed of me. Instead he marked me in front of everyone, including his own boss. If he’d have peed on me it couldn’t have been clearer.”
But his tender regard and care for Rosie was what really sold me on him. He wasn’t perfect, but he was perfect for her and in return that made him perfect for me.
This story revolves around one incident that leads into danger for Rosie resulting in a mystery that had me questioning everyone. I eventually tagged the bad guy, but I don’t think it had anything to do with my sleuthing skills and everything to do with this author giving me clues. But when I had my light bulb moment, let’s just say I was shocked at the potential twist. Ms. Barker does twists so well!
With some amazing secondary characters that I must have more of, some extremely steamy times as well as sizzling chemistry, and the most perfect epilogue ever, I hated to see this book end. It was a wonderful read and solidifies my belief that this author can do no wrong.
I love books that manage to surprise me with the ending – and this one does that. In addition to that, Rosie is one of those female characters whose courage and fortitude stand out more than her physical attributes. Offhand, I can’t remember her description, but I can remember how she dealt with and faced each event and issue she encountered. Jake doesn’t underestimate her either, and the growth in their relationship makes for a good read. I was thrilled to see that this is the first in a new series, and I hope Dimi gets his book next – or maybe Gareth! I wholeheartedly recommend this book.

This is the first book I have read from Freya Barker. I like her writing style and her characters. This is a fast-paced read and very enjoyable. I will be checking out more of her stories.
Hit & Run is a spectacular romantic suspense by Freya Barker. Ms. Barker has provided readers with a well-written book populated with a stellar cast of characters. The characters and dialog in this book make it a fun read. Rosie is caring for her mother and working nights at a hotel. While taking the trash out she witnesses one of the people staying at the hotel crash into something and then almost running her over. Jake works for PASS, a security firm, and keeping the star of a film being made is a major headache for him. Rosie and Jake’s story is packed with drama, humor, sizzlin’ sexy bits, action and suspense. I enjoyed this book from cover to cover and look forward to reading more from Freya Barker in the future. Hit & Run is book 1 of the PASS Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.
This is the first book in the PASS series is is a great one. Mr Dark and Dangerous Jake is providing security for a stuck on himself celeb movie star. Beautiful and fiery Rosie works the night shift while caring for her mother with Alzheimer. Rosie witnesses a hit and run by the drunk celeb and her life is now in danger. This book is suspenseful, has a wonderful oh so gay BFF, another helpful friend/nurse, the team at PASS, and two people finding something they never expected.
Awesome read!
Jake is back in civilian life working in security where he is presently protecting an actor who is into only herself! His bright spot is the housekeeper. When Rosie witnesses something happening to a guess, someone wants to silence her but Jake isn’t having that! Will he be able to keep her safe? This story draws you in and keeps you on the edge of your seat glued to the pages to see how this story ends!
Perception
I love Ms. Barker’s books as they have real heroes and heroines, mature as well. Jake is 38 and Rosie is 42. Coming from two different worlds, but sparks fly. It’s not always black and white, there is gray in there. Loved Jake’s grumpiness and take charge attitude. Rosie knows when to give in, but it’s not always an easy road. Absolutely loved Grant, and his introduction to Yanis and Dimas, totally burst out laughing. Jake is navigating a “slippery slope” and there are mine fields to get to the flat land. Just when you think the threat is gone, you realize it’s not. I’m going to read the rest of this series as soon as I can.
I voluntarily reviewed tis book.
Hit & Run by Freya Barker is the first book in her PASS series
This is Rosie and Jake’s story and while not my favorite one of all the books I’ve read of Ms. Barkers this one really has everything including suspense but it’s Grant who works with Rosie and steels the show plus there’s a movie company that will do anything to keep their secrets maybe even murder? All in all this is a wonderful 4 star book and I highly recommend reading it.
Rosie has returned home to take care of her mother and takes a job at the local hotel cleaning at night while a nurse watches her mother. When she takes out the trash she becomes a witness to a hit and run and this person will do anything to keep this quiet so it doesn’t cause problems with the movie being filmed. When she meets Jake who is taking care of the film’s star little does she know that he’ll soon become a major part of her life. Can he find her in time when she’s kidnapped?
Jake hates trying to keep an eyes on a star who loves drinking, bars and causing trouble but when he meets Rosie one night after his shift she’ll be a huge part of his life. But protecting a movie star and meeting the demands keeping the their star out of trouble comes at a price when a homeless man turns up dead. He’ll do anything to keep Rosie safe when threats on her life could take her life.
Freya has done it again! Instantly I fell in love with the characters. They are so real and dealing with real life problems. It makes it very easy to relate to them.
So many twists and turns in the story. Lots of surprises, and things I had no idea what happened. There are really amazing hot and steamy scenes. I would definitely recommend this book to friends.
Can’t wait for book two!!
Love, love Freya Barker and her stories. Jake and Rosie hit all the feels. If you like stories with mystery, characters that are dynamic, and all the magic in between you have got to read this book and all of hers for that matter. You can not go wrong when you pick up a Freya Barker story.
Small town romance and intrigue
Hit&Run is the first book in the PASS Series. This is also the first book I have read by Freya Barker so I was not sure what to expect, as you never know when you pick up a “new to you” author. The book description intrigued me and I hoped it would be what I expected – an adrenaline rush of action, adventure and sexy romance.
This is the story or Rosie and Jake. She is forty-two years old and has had to come back to her hometown to look after her aging and sick mother. Her life has never quite worked out the way she had wanted and it is still not looking like it ever will. But she is making the best of it working hard and trying to get by. She has taken a job a the local hotel and it is there that things start getting interesting.
A movie production has come to town and they are staying at the local hotel. Jake is part of the security detail and it is his job to ensure the star, a spoiled and arrogant azz that you just want to kick in the azz, is kept safe. Whether he needs to be kept safe from other people or himself it is still Jake’s job. But Jake is not quite who he seems to be as he also has a past and more than his share of demons to contend with.
Jake and Rosie have an immediate attraction to each other that they try to fight. But not all is as it appears with Jake’s attraction, or so Rosie finds out. Now what does she decide to do?
I received an ARC of this book from the author for my honest review. My opinions are all my own.
One of the ever-present features that I enjoy in all of Freya Barker’s books is how down-to-earth and ordinary many of her main characters are. I appreciate the message that yes, there is someone out there for a person like 42-year-old Rosie Perkins. A woman working an ordinary job, and coping with a mother on the downhill slide towards Alzheimer’s. It might not be glamourous but it’s certainly real.
Rosie’s “someone” is Jake Hutchinson. He’s ex-military, and now working for a security firm whose current job brings him to Rosie’s place of employment. He’s focused and no-nonsense, but when Rosie crosses his path, his attention is captured.
The suspense plot running through this book has our hero and heroine often at odds in this book, but what never falters is the pull of desire between them. I loved the conversations between them, and I enjoyed how strong the connection between them came about as they each lowered their guard over time.
I appreciated Jake’s openness with a somewhat reluctant Rosie. I never felt that his commitment to her wavered and I am glad he let her know early and often what she meant to him.
I listening to the audio version of this book that was dually narrated by Tanya Eby and Patrick Zeller. I felt they both did an admirable job. The pacing and tone was appropriate, and I they both conveyed the feelings of each character well. I felt they both accurately represented Rosie and Jake.
This review is for the audiobook version
Rating: 4.5 Stars
Rosie is someone that some of us can connect with. She’s being torn in a million different directions. Has a hard time keeping her head above water. Then on top of trying to take care of herself, she’s taking care of a parent. She’s got a great friend in a man named Grant. I was glad she had him in her corner. He left me looking forward to the scenes where he appeared. Jake appears unexpectedly into her life. When he comes into the picture the suspense begins.
This author always does a great job in getting her readers sucked into whatever she’s written. She always seems to know the right combination that will bring characters into the same place at the same time. Then she creates a little mystery and suspense that will keep you glued as you try to figure it out. In this case she has two narrators that bring her story to life.
Ms. Eby and Mr. Zeller did a great job at bringing life to the words that our author has written. They helped me picture every scene as they described it. They also made it near impossible for me to hit the stop button. I’m just getting to the good part and then it’s time to get to work so I start clock watching until it’s time to start listening again. There was only one part that I wasn’t happy about and that’s when I heard Mr. Zeller say “Epilogue” because I knew the ending was near and there was no way for me to stop that from coming.
I’m looking forward to see where this new series is going to take me. I’ve always said that I’m terrible with figuring out the mystery. Ms. Barker didn’t make it easy but for the first time ever I actually figured out whodunit. I’m surprised the earth didn’t start shaking when that happened. She also left me hoping that the next book in the series also comes out as an audiobook. Audiobooks are a great way to pass the time and even if for just a little while you can forget everything that’s going on in the world and just concentrate on what the author has orchestrated.
I was not compensated nor was I required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.
4 star Review Hit & Run (Pass #1) by Freya Barker
AUDIO REVIEW:
I listened to this book on audio rather than reading it and was drawn in from the start.
This is my first book by Freya Barker and it will not be my last. Both the narrators Tanya Eby and Patrick Zeller did a good job and certainly added to my enjoyment of the story.
This is the first book in a new series so was a great way to be introduced to Ms. Barker’s story telling and is about Rosie Perkins and Jake Hutchinson.
Poor Rosie has had a rough time lately and has returned home to look after her mother and works nights at a local hotel. Jake is a security specialist working at the hotel and he is intrigued by Rosie who is equally enamoured with him.
This was a a book filled with danger, secrets, lies and surprises. The intrigue and suspense, not to mention the danger kept me on the edge of my seat as I listened to this story.
Will the danger and secrets tear Rosie and Jake apart? Will they Jake and the men of PASS be able to put the pieces of the puzzle together whilst flying under the radar or will danger loom and put their lives and those they love in jeopardy ? .
There are twists, turns and surprises in Hit & Run as Rosie and Jake follows the clues and I have to say that I was taken by surprise on a couple of occasions.
I really liked this plot and the way the author told it. I’ve never read anything by this author before and I’m pleased that I have now found her. The two main characters are instantly attracted to each other, but they have complications in each of their life’s that makes them try to stay away from each other. However, fate has other plans and suddenly they find themselves thrust close together with choices to make.
