Historical Serenade: Seven Tales of Romance
I loved the cover of SILVERHAWK so much that I decided to read Barbara Bettis’s book! Who cannot resist the story of a strong sexy Knight rescuing a feisty Lady? I loved her characters Giles and Emelin. Giles had two missions, one of them was to kidnap a beautiful lady betrothed to his father. This story is filled with intrigues and the plot was well developed. Ms. Bettis is a great writer of medieval romances and I am looking forward to read her next book. I could not put it down! I loved the chemistry between the characters.
Just Within a Highland Mist, by Dawn Marie Hamilton, is another captivating time travel romance to enjoy! If you enjoy paranormal romance with Highlanders, scheming pixies, a mischievous brownie, magic and adventure, then this time travel romance, will be perfect for you. I am a huge fan of this author’s Highland Gardens series! This author is a wonderful writer and I have to say that she really pleased me again! It tells the story of Gregor and Emily, two passionate and caring souls, caught in a Scottish adventure filled with action, danger, magic and romance. During some scenes, boy did I feel the passion between these two charming characters! This author is so talented that she got me pulled, again, into this lovely love story, that I’m sure, will please her readers of Scottish romances. Great characters, intriguing plot and perfect setting, making, Just Within a Highland Mist, is a MUST to read! Again, Ms. Hamilton did not disappoint me!
To Love An Impostor is a beautiful and charming tale of forgiveness and love! I really LOVED Lane McFarland’s book which tells the story Nicholas and Diana two charming characters. Captain Nicholas Randolf Barlow, only feels hatred towards those who have been cruel to him. He is totally consumed by rage and revenge specially towards a man named Fleming. Fleming’s daughter, Diana lived a life of solitude in a small abbey where she takes care of orphans. What will be Diana’s reaction when she learns the whole truth. Will she forgive him? Will revenge leave room for trust and love?
1. HEART OF THE HIGHLANDS: The Raven by April Holthaus – 4.25 STARS
This was a 5 star review for me until the ending, which I didn’t care for. This is the prequel to this author’s series The Protector.
You will find suspense, twists and intrigue that will keep you entertained. The character’s are believable and I felt a connection. We have an unknown villain until the end. When the h makes the connection I felt she should have made it earlier because all the hints were there except the voice. Don’t want to give spoiler’s so not saying more.
We have lovemaking, outside of marriage heat level 3.5 out of 5.
No cheating, No cliffhanger, HEA, some romance and a tad of spice. As I said I know this is a prequel to her series, but the ending was unsatisfying and unbelievable.
2. SILVERHAWK by Barbara Bettis – 5 STARS
This is what I love about bundles – finding new author’s. If the rest of her work is anything like this I’ve found a new author to read.
This is one of those stories that held my interest from the beginning to the end. My only compliant was with the h at times trying to run away. I understood why, because she wanted to save a child, but life would have been a heck of a lot similar if she would listened to the H. Of course, then we wouldn’t have a story – lol.
There is a lot of suspense, many twists, villains, great main character’s that you will feel a connection, a lot of fight scenes and just a darn good story. I loved the young squire to be Davy and his tenacity!
There is lovemaking, outside of marriage, heat level 4 out of 5 and described a few times.
No cheating, no cliffhanger, HEA, romance and some spice. I’ve gone ahead and purchased the next book in the series, and am following her so I don’t miss any more of her works. I recommend this story.
3. JUST WITHIN A HIGHLAND MIST by Dawn-Marie Hamilton – 3.25 STARS
This is the 5 story of Dawn Marie-Hamilton series called HIGHLAND GARDENS. I felt lost with the people and their connections to the past or future. So I will say, this is not a stand alone to fully enjoy the story. I think book 1 of her series would have been a better addition to this bundle so you would have the beginning of the pixes and magic.
It really wasn’t clear why the h was sent back in time, except for maybe a child being mischievous. This is a short novella, and I didn’t think the character’s were flushed out enough.
There are troublesome pixes who for no other reason want to cause trouble. I do enjoy stories on fae and such, but this one was just ok.
SPOILER – SPOILER – The h becomes upset when the H saves her life and that of a child because he killed two men. HELLO – villains had a knife to your throat. She lost points with me in that. END OF SPOILER!!
We have lovemaking, within marriage, heat level 4.5 out of 5 and described I think only twice.
We have no cheating, no cliffhanger, HEA, no romance and spice.
4. DAGGER’S DESTINY by Karen Muir – 5 Stars
This is a reason, I love bundles, I’ve discovered another new author in Karen Muir. This story is amazing! It has so many layers to it, that I became so engrossed in the story because it was one suspenseful thing after another.
The main couple were written with so much depth and the story moved at a fast paced I hated to see it end. Many times in other stories, I get so peeved with where an author takes the reader. I am like, this couple wouldn’t do or say that!! I never experienced that in this story. Their actions fit the character’s the author weaved! How refreshing!
Not everything goes smoothly and that kept me on edge wondering how it would all turn out. This is loaded with suspense, some violence, wonderful main and secondary character’s, villains aplenty and twists.
We have lovemaking within marriage, heat level 4 out of 5 and only described a few times. It was filled with passion and love.
No cheating, no cliffhanger, honest dialogue, HEA, romance and some spice.
5. TO LOVE AN IMPOSTOR by Lana McFarland – 5 Stars
A reason I enjoy bundles is finding new author’s and this author is new to me and I enjoyed her writing style.
This is a unique story line with our H playing the part of 3 people and all successfully. There are many children that kept the story sweet and endearing. I am not a fan of secrets or deception in my stories, but in this one you understood his reasonings.
We have a few lovemaking scenes outside of marriage and only described in minor detail once. No cheating, no cliffhanger, HEA, romance and a tad of spice. I am not going into the whole premise as many have explained it better than I. But, I do recommend this story.
6. CELTIC PERIL by Ria Cantrell -5 Stars
I’ve read 1/2 of the series and it is a stand alone story. This had the perfect blend of time travel, romance and suspense.
I must admit I am not a fan to time travel stories because they usually leave me feeling someone got cheated out of their time period. I can honestly say, you will not feel that in this story. I enjoyed how it all unfolded! From the reason they traveled back, to wondering if they would be found out. Made for a great paced story with much suspense and intrigue thrown in.
The romance is amazing and you could feel they were soul mates. There is lovemaking, outside of marriage, heat level 4 out of 5 and described a few times. Since I felt a connection between the H/h their lovemaking was filled with passion and love.
There is a very sad part in the story (no spoiler’s), but I thought my heart wouldn’t stop aching. There is an amazing twist the author gave us that made my heart whole again – lol.
There is a nasty villain and you just wondered how many people would be pulled into his deception. There are so many facets and side stories that you will not be able to put this story down.
We have no cheating, no cliffhanger, HEA, romance and spice. I highly recommend this series, author and this story.
7. THE MAXWELL GHOST by Ruth A Casie – 3.5 Stars
This was also part of a bundle called ONCE UPON A HAUNTED CASTLE which I also own.
The beginning 3 stars, very confusing and had to re-read several times. A lot of character’s thrown at you and was hard to follow and get into the story. The middle and end – 4 stars – improved.
No lovemaking, no romance, HEA, but ends in a cliffhanger. You must read The Highlander English Women to have some questions answered, because our couple from this is in that story. You only know one villain and there is another, that you will have to read to discover more info. (ljb)
