He is the one that never looks her way.He is handsome and strong. He is rough around the edges and mean.He is everything she’s ever wanted. He doesn’t even know she exists. Her life is a joke.***She doesn’t step on cracks in the sidewalk. She laughs at inappropriate times. She talks when she shouldn’t.She is clumsy and trips on air.She is finally on his radar.God help her now.
Great story with wonderful characters that kept me smiling all the way through. A real pick-me-up, feel-good read. Highly recommend.
What an awesome start to a new series. There is authenticity, passion, chuckles, and emotions, and that makes for a great read.
I just recently started reading Ms. Vale and she is quickly becoming an automatic buy for me. I thoroughly enjoyedd staying up past one am last night reading. One of the reasons I enjoyed it, was I really saw my self in Rayleigh also, since I’m a klutz too!
Ezra and Rayleigh just worked, and he was a perfect hero to her. I’m looking forward to reading the next book in this series! I thought I figured out who Rayleighs best friend would be matched with, but was shocked when I read the preview in the back of this book! It’s unexpected and I know Ms. Vale will make it work.
This book is PERFECT!!! Absolutely perfect. Every release Ms Vale has makes me fall in love with her writing even more. I can not get enough of her and her books!!! I am so hanging out for the next book she will captivate me with.
I love the whole unrequited love story lines and this story line ticks ALL my boxes. I loved the characters, they felt real. Raleigh is just so clumsy, she is forever hurting herself in some way. Ezra is just swoon worthy… Total book boyfriend material. Both Ezra and Raleigh have a chemistry that is felt on every page.
This book captivated me and I devoured it so fast! I can not wait for more in this series. I am so ready!
Hissy Fit kicks off Lani Lynn Vale’s new series, The Southern Gentleman, and I am hooked. Vale introduces a new town in her beloved Texas and a whole host of new characters, and I can’t wait for more of this series! Vale brings it all to the table in this first book, and fills the pages with a few swift kicks to the feels, her quirky sense of humor, an intriguing suspense arc and a steamy romance.
Raleigh Crusie was such an endearing character, I couldn’t help but love her. An incredibly klutzy person prone to all sorts of accidents and injuries, Raleigh, a high school teacher, has been crushing hard on the town golden boy since he was a quarterback a year ahead of her in high school. The problem was he didn’t even see her back then, and Raleigh is certain he doesn’t see her now. Until he does. Ezra McDuff, now a high school teacher as well as the baseball coach, was kicking himself for not noticing Raleigh before now. A good guy and alpha to the core, he falls hard and fast for her.
I loved their sweet and tender romance, and the suspenseful portion of the plot kept me tapping my Kindle furiously. Vale is doing what she does best in this series, and that’s building a new world in Texas for her readers to fall in love with. Five smooches from me for Hissy Fit by Lani Lynn Vale!

“I had this idea in my mind that maybe I wasn’t quite as invisible as I always felt like I was at times. Apparently, if the football coach, who knew everybody didn’t even know me, then I was a lost cause.”
I couldn’t help wincing every time she ‘tripped on air’ or injured herself. I wanted to wrap her in bubble wrap and heal her hurts. And then I wanted to have a girl’s night with her and her bestie. I couldn’t help finding her quirks endearing and her sense of humor entertaining. She doesn’t let her near handicap level of klutziness hold her back. She just dusts herself off, bandages her boo-boos and keeps on keeping on.
Almost as painful to watch (or read) is her years-long crush on first the boy at school who later turns into the man at school who is still the object of her obsession. But, it’s not like she’s had to worry about being obvious, because she’s invisible… until she isn’t.
As I’ve come to expect from this author, there’s never a shortage of humor in her stories. I have to say, the comedy of errors that result in the first instance of him finally noticing her is hilarious. This girl is my hero. I can’t imagine the inner strength required to get up each morning knowing the dangers that face her when she gets out of bed. Accident prone is an understatement of epic proportions.
I’m really excited about this new The Southern Gentlemen series. The possibilities are endless and I’m especially anxious to see the bestie find love. My fingers are crossed that it’s who she wants, but you never know if that’s how things will end up. No matter who it ends up being, she will give him a run for his money. The line forms here…
Loved this book! Couldn’t put it down till I finished it.
Hissy Fit is a high school love story between two teachers. The sexy foodball and baseball coach Ezra McDuff and the clumsy and inconspicuous Ms. Raleigh Jolie Crusie.
Raleigh’s bad luck was hilarious on the one hand and sometimes almost to fear on the other.
Her crush on Ezra were heartwarming and at the same time a bit sad. To be so close and yet completely invisible to the one you`re in love is not a nice feeling.
Ezra on the other hand is all a woman can dream about. Tall, sexy and incredibly self-conscious.
Luckily, he ended up falling over Raleigh and from then on it was hard for him to ignore her.
I liked the story, even if Ezra could have behaved a little differently to Coach Casper. Being with someone and still having the photo of the ex-girlfriend on the desk and letting her continue to be touched by her each time she get´s the chance… – No. That was not so funny. But sometimes men are a bit slow…when it comes to their ex-girlfriends. In the end everything went well, so that he still got the turn.
I wasn’t reading for long before I realized that I loved this story. The characters, their chemistry, the subplots… I loved this book!!
Like the ninny I am, I read this series out of order, but it didn’t even matter in the grand scheme of things. These books truly do read as standalones. I did find this one to be a more well-rounded and developed story than the ones that followed it, which only made me enjoy it more.
This is the story of Raleigh and Ezra. She’s crushed on him for most of her life. He didn’t even know she existed until recently. She hero-worshipped him and he didn’t know how much weight his kind words and actions carried with her. While she was mooning over the most popular guy in school, the football star, he vaguely knew she was there. Nothing she did got his attention until she was a grown woman who embarrassed herself in front of the man of her dreams. And he could never look away from her again.
I loved how the author illustrated the growth of these characters. Raleigh may still have been the awkward, accident-prone, hot mess of a person as she was growing up, but she had evolved into an incredible woman with so much heart. However, it was Ezra whose strength of character shined the most. He went from being an oblivious jock to an amazing, intuitive, compassionate man. The ways in which he cared for Raleigh had me swooning all over the place. She owned him every bit as much as he owned her!
And again, with this story, Lani Lynn Vale has proven why I will be one of her staunchest supporters. She gave me a story full of heart, heat and humor that I was only sad because it ended. Luckily there are still tons of her books I have yet to read and I’m going to happily make my way through them. Who knows? Maybe I’ll even get to see these charming characters again
** spoiler alert ** She has always been invincible, he has always been part of the in crowd. One accident and their worlds collide. Will she finally get what she always dreamed of? Will he be able to prove that he sees her now?
Have to say, that while I have purchased this author’s books for a bit, this is the first one I am reading and I am hooked. I automatically went and bought the next book in the series and will be starting it today. I absolutely loved how she was who she was and she didn’t really let it get her down. I loved how once he noticed her, he went full force and didn’t hold back his feelings. Great read!
Sweet, sexy and irresistible! The first book in Lani Lynn Vale’s Southern Gentleman series is a quirky take on an opposites attract story that is sure to please. In HISSY FIT the characters are addictive, the drama is top notch and the happily ever after is so rewarding.
Raleigh is delightful. She’s awkward, clumsy and adorably real. I enjoyed seeing her finally get the man she’s had in her sight for so long.
Ezra might have been blind to Raleigh for a long time, but once she catches his eye, she’s all he sees. I loved their story!
I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves a story filled with passion, drama and a bit of a suspense here and there.
Hissy Fit
Oh lord this book had me laughing like a hyena, Raleigh is awkward, says inappropriate things whenever Ezra her crush is around, she tries very hard but with hearts in her eyes and her awkward self she still took Ezra’s breath and heart away
Another amazing book from an amazing author.
I loved this first book in this new series. I laughed so much. Raleigh is great I love her clumsiness. And Ezra was so great and understanding with her clumsiness. This story about these two just sucked me in. It was very hard to put the book down for sleep.
Go read it you won’t be disappointed. But again any book by Lani you won’t be disappointed in reading.
Loved it
Hissy Fit was my first Lani Lynn Vale novel and I have mixed emotions about this novel. I didn’t like that the H didn’t notice the h until the incident inspite of the fact they work together and I wished the h wasn’t as clumsy as she was made out to be. I loved that the story was hilarious and there were times I couldn’t stop laughing out loud. I loved that Ezra fell in love with Raleigh and her klutziness does not put him off. The story was emotional, steamy and hilarious and I did enjoy the romance between Ezra and Raleigh. I would recommend it to lovers of contemporary romance.
The audible version was narrated by Ava Erickson and Jacob Morgan. They did an excellent job with the characters and brought the story to life. They infused the right amount of emotion into the story and gave each characters their own voice. I enjoyed their narration of this novel.
Hissy Fit by Lani Lynn Vale is the first book in her Southern Gentleman series. First in a series of inter-connected standalone’s set in a small town, this story is of one woman’s long time crush finally seeing her for the first time and all the small-town drama that evolves from their connection.
Raleigh has had a longtime crush on Ezra, has worked at the same school with him for a few years, but it seems that this year is THE year he finally notices her. With all her clumsiness on display, he is entranced with this woman.
Ezra was the popular captain of the football team in high school, all-star, great guy that realizes he was an oblivious idiot in his younger years when he finally takes notice of the beautiful teacher that has to take over teaching his sex-ed class so he can focus on coaching. Not realizing that they were in school together and that he should know her, he sets his sights on her, drawn to her clumsy, gorgeous ways like he never has been before.
Well-written and well-paced, this story has all the awesomeness of a typical Lani Lynn Vale book without as much of the danger that is sometimes prevalent for some of her characters. The audio is sexy as sin with Ava Erickson and Jacob Morgan bringing these characters to life. Loved it! Enjoy!
I must admit–at first, I was hesitant to give this a try because I didn’t like the first ani Lynn Vale book I listened to, but I’m glad I did! This cute story had me swooning and laughing out loud! Not only that, but it addresses some serious high school issues as well. I liked the subplots and the heartwarming ending.
Ava Erickson and Jacob Morgan did an amazing job narrating.
Hissy Fit is a contemporary romantic comedy written in dual first-person POV and performed in dual narration. It’s a standalone that ends with an HEA. No cliffhanger, no cheating.
I received this audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this unbiased review.
i just love it, the books from this author never disappoints me, the characters are the sweetest and you just fall in love with them, i highly recommend this one. and I hope that you enjoy it as much as me
Audiobook Review
4.5 STARS
I adored this! Lani Lynn Vale is well known for her bad boy heroes. Her motorcycle and police series come to mind so when I heard she’d be stepping out of her normal tropes and writing a small town southern romance I was excited to dive in. Ezra is a football coach and a former jock. He is popular among his students and loved by all. Raleigh is adorable, quirky and clumsy. She has had a thing for Ezra for a long while but never felt ‘seen’ by him. Their connection and chemistry was intense and addicting and off the charts steamy. I couldn’t get enough. There was a small amount of conflict with another woman but nothing unrealistic or overdone. The epilogue was my absolute favourite part of the whole book. SO BEAUTIFUL!
Ava Erickson and Jacob Morgan are incredible narrators. They easily brought these characters to life with their animated voices and both did an incredible job applying the emotion and the feels.
Overall I loved this, and cannot wait for the next book in the series.
Thank you to Wildfire Marketing Solutions for an audio code in exchange of an honest review.
I am fairly new to Lani Lynn Vale, but since I read my first book of hers I have had her as one of my go to, one click authors and I’m slowly making my way through her library. Hissy Fit hit my TBR but it wasn’t on my priority list since she has so many amazing sounding books to read. But when I was offered the opportunity to get my hands on an audible copy I jumped at it.
Normally I am not a huge audiobook listener as I find it hard to concentrate with toddlers running around. But having a weekend away with hubby I got to spend the day in bed listening to this and it was awesome.
Firstly I want to say that the narrator’s were perfect. Their voices were great. Being Aussie sometimes the accents can be a little jarring or distracting but these voices worked beautifully for me.
Now in regards to the actual story. It wasn’t my favourite. Which could be in part due to my expectations from the books I have read. But I found it a little boring. I was expecting the drama to be more dramatic so when it happened I was all “oh is that it?” I was expecting more.
Raleigh was a sweetheart and I liked her from the start but Ezra didn’t really do it for me. He wasn’t alpha enough and I never felt like he gave enough consideration to Raleigh. If I didn’t get his point of view I probably would have hated him. But luckily his point of view proved how much he loved her he just didn’t show it as much as I want in a book boyfriend.
Raleigh needed to be a little more assertive. If someone else had their hands on my husband and he didn’t back the hell away fast his arse had better be groveling and it better never happen again. Especially if he has had his penis previously in this same person. And said person is a bitch to me to boot and he doesn’t give her even a gentle verbal slap down just nope.
The only saving grace for Ezra really was him saying she deserved more from him but geez if your aware of that issue throw in some action. Although to his defense I think he was just oblivious and I really felt that he didn’t see anything but Raleigh after he finally noticed her.
So maybe it’s just that I have high expectations for the men in my books. And that’s what I expected from Lani Lynn Vale. The full, growling, possessive, protective alpha male. And Ezra wasn’t that but I loved Raleigh so much I wanted that for her.
All that said I did enjoy my six hours listening to the lovely voices of the narrator’s. And having it in dual point of view meant that although Ezra wasn’t what I wanted him to be I couldn’t hate him because he did love Raleigh. And he knew how beautiful she was. So I think this maybe more a me issue than a book issue.
