His Wife’s Sister is a thriller about a women named Mara who has finally been found and reunited with her sister, years after being abducted and held captive by a stranger. The novel goes on to depict her life back in the real world, mostly told from the perspective of her sister Lucia’s husband, Damian.
A.J. Willis does a phenomenal job of portraying a psychologically disturbing event that left me on edge. I was drawn into the character’s emotions, whether it was Damian, Lucia, or Mara. Naturally, this book offers twists as well that are not easily predicted and keep you guessing.
This book was extremely hard for me to put down! I was constantly brainstorming and trying to think of the different possible scenarios that were bound to happen. I look forward to what else this author may write in the future!
I received a review copy from the author at my request and this is my honest opinion. I am so torn about how to review this book. The synopsis sounded intriguing and I was anxious to read it. But then I did. The beginning was amazing and I was reading as fast as I could. Then came the part where Damien and Mara began to have problems…Mara in April’s room and the argument where Damien “almost” hit Mara, just to name a few. After that Damien went off the rails and got to be more than I could handle. It was outlandish to the point of being ridiculous. I even committed the ultimate “bad girl” – I skipped and read the ending. That REALLY confused me so I began reading the book backward – jumping back several chapters and reading then repeat. As weird as it sounds, it was actually more enjoyable that way. I must admit to being disappointed in this book. Mr. Willis is a terrific writer and I’ve read many of his books. I guess everyone’s entitled to a one-off (as my UK friends say). I look forward to seeing what’s next for him. I sure it will be enjoyable.
Page turner and so twisted that I haven’t seen that ending at all.
It’s always interesting to read about people’s life after living in captivity for many years and how their perceptions of nowadays living can affect everything around, especially their families.
I enjoyed this book, the twists kept coming and coming with each chapter but I didn’t expect that last part of the book at all. The author managed to create a perfect story and make us believe that one thing is happening just to prove us wrong and see the other side of the story as well.
I’m intrigued to read more books by the author now.
I don’t normally like characters like Mara, she creeps me out. Having said that though, it was really hard to put this book down. Family drama and a real psychological thriller! I think it is going one way and then, nope, I was wrong. Well written and will captivate you from the beginning to the end.
