Darby recently graduated college and her mother is already trying to pair her off- her mother has never really paid much attention to Darby and certainly has little respect for her daughter too. Thankfully Nathan comes to the rescue when her date is horrible.
Nathan couldnt let this beautiful women deal with a date gone bad. He noticed Darby immediately. So after the rescue he showed her the sights of New York.
Add in a whirwind romance and instant attraction and these two become husband and wife….but things aren’t so rosy when she arrives at his home Peacock Alley…
The start of this book had me questioning where this was going. It felt like a picked out sort of mail order bride meets arranged marriage meets whirlwind romance. Especially with Nate’s dominant side and Darby’s submissive side.
But as it progresses and finally when he levels with her it felt real. Especially when she stood up for herself.
This is an emotional rolllercoaster told by her pov. I liked it but definitely couldn’t predict where it was going- I was pleasantly surprised.

His Wife is a contemporary romance with a gothic feel to it. The book blurb gives an accurate and intriguing description of the story. The writing is great, the characters are interesting. Nathan Randolph is mysterious and sexy and I fell under his spell as much as Darby did! Although Darby is kind of innocent and obliging at the beginning, she evolves into a more self-assured and assertive woman and I wanted to applaud her in a couple of instances. This book is a great read and I enjoyed it very much.

A mystery that had me on edge and guessing till the end. It includes suspense, twists and turns, and hot scenes in Darby and Nate’s whirlwind romance and the way they both settled into their roles. A good modern day version of Daphne du Maurier with great characters.

Sweet, quiet, subdued Darby is swept off get feet by Nathan, a wealthy older widower.
After marriage and moving onto his estate she finds that her new home is filled with his late wife’s memories. It seems the vivacious and popular Savannah was the favorite of her husband, friends, and family. Her new mother in law treats her scornfully and undermines and sabotages their relationship from day one.
As Darby tries to navigate in this hostile environment, she begins to get mixed feelings from her beloved Nathan. In spite of his odd behavior, she knows she loves him deeply and tries to be the wife he needs even though she sees how much influence Savannah has on him even from her grave.
I loved when Darby has finally had enough. Almost sexually mauled by Nathan and Savannah’s “friend”, cruelly treated by his mother, and humiliated at a home party by Nathan, Darby has had enough!
She finally stands up for herself as her anger over her treatment overpowers her shyer nature! This was the beginning of her finding the twisted truth behind her husband’s obsession with his deceased wife.
An interesting romance filled with past hurts and present pain as Darby and Nathan work their way back to each other.

I’ve read these books out of order, but I’m glad I did because I don’t know if I would have read Magic Man or Ride With Me if I had read His Wife first. And I loved those two! This one wasn’t my favorite of the bunch and that’s mostly because of the insta-love, which is a personal annoyance for me. That being said, I didn’t have any trouble staying engaged in the story and rooting for Nathan and Darby. They are both strangely old-fashioned, which was fun and different. There is some mild power play stuff happening here, both sexual and in their day to day life. The mystery/suspense subplot makes for a fun twist.

She meets and marries a man within two days of knowing him! Reckless yeah but to see Darby grow from a cowed down take everything woman to one with a backbone is priceless! She met the man she thought was going to be her everything only to be compared to his first wife not only by him but his mother and friends. Darby took a stand and she will have you in her corner cheering her on!

This was a truly remarkable story but it was a bit long in the tooth while trying to get to the root of the book.. Secrets, lies, and deceit… I only wish the story was in duel POV… I hate to say but I did not like Darby and Nate mothers, they were to controlling and manipulative…I read where is author got the inspiration for His Wife from Rebecca by Daphne de Maurier and thought she was making Darby kick a** in my opinion SHE WAS NOT! Darby may have come into her own but she was still weak in her love of Nate and what ever Nate wanted or did was alright… I do not think because she would not let him use his belt on her made her a strong person….
*SPOILER* If your new husband accidentally killed his first wife and hide that fact for over a year, would you stay with him once you found out? hmm
Overall this book is worth the read, and once you get into the story, you will want more…..Bravo Ashley, you did good!

GREAT READ!
An enjoyable read that is very well written because you could sense the immaturity being portrayed through the drama as it unfolds and through the authors writing! Steamy chemistry, engrossing suspense filled twists, sassy, bits of dominating chemistry, sweet, intense, edgy and at times hard to put down! An amazing must read!
If Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho, Rebecca, and Jane Eyre had a baby, it would be His Wife (plus throw in a dash of steamy love scenes).
Synopsis: Darby is a young woman just graduating from college with an overbearing mom, who wants to match her up to the wrong guy. Nathan is a wealthy Southern gentleman/intense alpha male who rescues her from what surely would have been a disastrous future. As Darby gets to know Nathan, she learns more about his family and a mysterious death that occurred on his property.
I love a good mystery and Ashley does not disappoint. I couldn’t put the book down. Ashley’s descriptions make the scenery come to life. If you like an alpha male, then you may find a new book boyfriend in Nathan. And Darby, while timid to start with, comes into her own and you’ll be rooting for that! These two characters have some seriously great bedroom chemistry! I can’t wait to read more from this author. Do yourself a favor and go check out His Wife.
This book had me from the beginning! I loved the characters and all the twists and turns.
