She’s too prim Lilah Holcutt dislikes Constantine Moreland from the moment she meets him. He may be handsome, but he’s frivolous, rash, impulsive and, worst of all, a flirt. Now that Con’s twin brother has married Lilah’s best friend, she’s seeing way more of Con than she’d like. And when Con’s sisters are inexplicably kidnapped, Lilah’s own curiosity and stubbornness get the better of her, and … of her, and she finds herself swept into Con’s investigation.
He’s indifferent to propriety
Con knows that Lilah hates him–he just wishes she weren’t so devastatingly beautiful, that he weren’t so attracted to her. Especially since they’re working closely together to solve the kidnapping, an adventure that leads them to Lilah’s peculiar childhood home, Barrow House, which sits atop an ancient fen and features an eerie maze on its grounds.
They’ll have to join together to conquer a sinister force
The more Con and Lilah uncover, the more they’re convinced that the answers lie buried deep within Barrow House–answers to a mystery darker than either of them could ever have realized.

Constantine Moreland is a dangerous and handsome flirt. Lilah Holcutt is a beautiful and cold woman – seemingly immune to Con’s charms. But under the cool exterior beats the heart of a frightened and confused woman. Lilah is wary of Con’s teasing, flirtatious nature. But when some of the Moreland women are kidnapped the pair are thrown together to rescue the group. Con’s eyes are open to a person hidden beneath Lilah’s haughty exterior. Can anything real exist between them? Can seeming enemies become lovers?
Camp is a master of spinning tales with sexual tension. The pull between Con and Lilah is very strong and at times feels almost frantic. I highly recommend this book. I was gifted a copy of this book.
So good, so fun! Now I don’t know whose story I liked better, Alex’s or Con’s :).
This book is absolutely perfect! It begins with a wedding and ends with a wedding and sandwiched between is a kidnapping, a mystery, an unexpected villain, mysticism, jealousy, unwelcome suitors, paranormal powers, and a lovely romance. I cannot believe that I have missed the first five books in the series and I certainly intend to remedy that! I had no trouble reading and following the book without having read the others in the series.
Constantine (Con) Moreland is the son of a Duke and publicly portrays himself exactly as he is. He’s fun-loving, nice (very nice), appealing, humorous, irreverent, impulsive and feels that the rules, at best, are just guidelines. He’s also handsome as sin, never gets lost, and just doesn’t know what to make of Lilah Holcutt. With Con – what you see is what you get.
Lilah Holcutt is the exact opposite of Con. She follows the rules, abhors scandal, is ever the prim and proper miss, likes her feet planted firmly on the ground, – and maybe she’s a bit judgmental. She is NOT flamboyant, she doesn’t crave excitement and adventure and she isn’t driven by wild uncontrollable passion. She doesn’t like Con because he is a rule breaker and – well – he teases her and that makes her think that he doesn’t like her.
We begin our story with the wedding of Alex, Con’s twin brother, and Sabrina, Lilah’s best (and only) friend. Not long after the wedding festivities are over and the happy couple has left for their honeymoon trip, Lilah’s life is back to its normal, prim, proper and boring ways. Her very, very, very staid aunt and uncle are back to finding her a proper, appropriate husband. On a particularly boring day, Lilah remembers that she promised to loan Olivia (Con’s sister) a book and decides to take it over to her. When she arrives, she learns that Olivia is out with her mother and sisters and Lilah decides she’ll just leave the book – but – Con intercepts her. As they are speaking, they learn that Con’s mother and sisters have been kidnapped. Con dashes out to the location and Lilah insists on accompanying him. Chaos, pure chaos is the scene that greets them when they arrive at the location. The Duchess and her daughters and daughters-in-law have been kidnapped and there are no clues.
After some consultation with the family, Con and Lilah take off in pursuit of the kidnappers. Con has always had the unique ability – he doesn’t get lost – and always seems to know which direction he should go. That is certainly useful when trailing the kidnappers. Strangely, that ability seems to be stronger, more acute when Lilah is near him. Luckily, they find the duchess and the ladies with her and just as Con and Lilah are rescuing them – they rescue themselves.
That begins a story filled with more twists and turns than a knotted rope. Who was the real target of the kidnapping? Was it really the duchess? Was it Kyria? Was it Sabrina? Did the kidnappers miss their real target? Who was the villain? Was it Sir Jasper? Was it the Dearborn’s (again)? Was it somebody totally new? What key is the villain looking for? What does it open? Where could it be? Oh! What an exciting adventure. You’ll love the search and the discovery and you’ll absolutely love Con and Lilah finding their HEA. I adored Lilah’s growth as she discovers who she really is and what she values in life.
I highly recommend this book and I can assure you I’ll be catching up with the rest of the series very, very soon!

“I requested and received this e-book at no cost to me and volunteered to read it; my review is my honest opinion and given without any influence by the author or publisher.”
Lilah spends nearly the entire book fighting her inexplicable attraction to Constantine who is wicked charming and an entirely memorable character. They are drawn to eachother and the chemistry is undeniable. I enjoyed the story line, it was very well written, intresting, and it had a lot of unique elements to it. This book took longer to read than is usual for me, sometimes I couldn’t get into it but I continued on and it paid off. It really is a wonderful story, full of adventure and unexpected twists and turns and lots of suspense.
FANTASIC! His Wicked Charm by Candace Camp may be her finest yet and I have read all her books! This is the 6th book in the Mad Moreland Series and I recommend that you read all 6 but this book can stand alone. The research Candace must have put into this book was unbelievable. It was so exciting form the very first page to the last. I am in awe over it! The story has paranormal, jealousy, arguments, deception, courting, misunderstandings, adventure, secret passages, a maze, madness, connections, greed, family and always love! I highly recommend this book… you won’t be disappointed! So travel back to 1892 London With Con Moreland and Lilah Holcutt on an adventure unlike any other.
***This book was gifted to me and I am voluntarily reviewing.
This is another delightful ‘Mad Morelands’ book that I thoroughly enjoyed. Lilah Holcutt and Constantine Moreland are like oil and water–never to mix. Lilah always follows the rules and Con loves to break them. From the moment they met, sparks fly and not in a good way. When Con’s twin brother Alex marries Lilah’s best friend, these two are thrown together. Throw in a mystery steeped in the paranormal and madness and you have a book that will keep your interest until the very last page.
I adored Con, his wit, his caring personality and his ability to charm everyone he meets–everyone except Lilah. Lilah has a deep dark secret that she’s been hiding since she was a child and she believes the only way to avoid scandal is to be prim and proper at all times. Being around Con upsets her neatly ordered world and she tries to avoid him at all costs. Ms. Camp is a talented author and leads the author on a merry chase to uncover the mystery. Definitely recommend this book.
I received a copy of this book in exchange for a fair and honest review.
A nice blend of RomCom and Romantic Suspense is presented in a Victorian setting. Con is a scamp, and Lilah is a prude; they are paired to catch kidnapers and rescue the victims. Will opposite attract for an HEA? This is No. 6, but you can enjoy it as a standalone; however, you may want to read the first 5 afterward. Candace Camp has penned another witty romance.
A return to The Mad Morelands – this time it’s Con’s story and it’s intriguing and very hard to put down. Great characters and a fascinating story.
I recently got the chance to read His Wicked Charm by Candace Camp, a suspenseful historical romance that leaves you breathless after each page. Lilah, one of two main characters, is a stubborn, tight laced proper lady, who dislikes Con, our second main character, so very much. Though, ads the story progresses, she begins to see why she’s more like him than anyone else. Con loves to tease and ridicule Lilah, he’s got it bad for her, without even really knowing it at first. There’s just something about her… The words used within this book, paint such a vivid picture for the reader, it’s almost as if I’m there watching it play out! And what a scene to behold; seances, kidnapping and a romance so great, you’ll be holding your breath until the very end! Bravo Ms. Camp, can’t wait to read the others!
What do you get when you combine a conservative young woman in regency dress with a charming scamp? A lively and fun historical romance novel by Candace Camp! Constantine Moreland is handsome and almost too charming for his own good. His flirtatious personality makes him very well liked by the ladies, with the exception of Lila Norcutt. However, his twin brother just married her best friend so they are paired together more than she’d like. When his mother and sisters end up being kidnapped while at a suffragette rally, Lila joins Con in the hunt to rescue them and ends up loosening up her corset strings and actually having fun with the man she professes to hate.
I found His Wicked Charm to be a lot of fun to read. It wasn’t a very serious historical romance (thank god!) and I was able to just relax and read it in an afternoon. Although Con’s personality annoyed Lila at the outset of this novel, he was the perfect remedy for a gloomy Saturday afternoon. Luckily Lila changed her tune and started to relish the chemistry that she and Con had and their romps through the countryside turned into a different kind of romp altogether! I have not read any of the other books in this series but the characters do all seem to be a bit mad, or at least different for the time period. It seems that they each have a different psychic gift which may make their romantic pairings a bit more interesting. I liked this novel and am willing to give another Mad Moreland a try!
Entertaining from beginning until the last page, Candace Camp sprinkles her magic prose in the next installment of the Mad Morelands. Setting 1898 London where two people who appear opposite, seem to be pulled to each other. Of course being related by marriage is the main culprit. You see Lilah Holcutt’s best friend just married Constantine Moreland’s twin brother, but all she can see is Con’s carefree impulsive nature and a flirt of the first degree! Con thinks Lilah is just so beautiful but she seems not to like him since they first met. But circumstances draw them together as they help each other find out what has happened to Con’s sisters. They have been kidnapped and they work frantically to find them. As secrets come to light and even a twist of the paranormal, these two begin to have strong emotions for each other. This author holds me captive in each story I have read. Her well drawn characters easily come to life and she captures the essence of the era in which the story is set. I cannot wait for more of this series, although this book can be read as a standalone. But why would you want to only read one? Prepare to be swept into this wonderful story that you will not be able to put down!!
His Wicked Charm by Candace Camp is book Six in The Mad Morelands series. This is the story of Lilah Holcutt and Constantine Moreland. I have read the previous book but feel this is easily a standalone book.
Lilah does like Con but since his brother has married her good friend he now seems to be a regular part of her life. Con knows that he isn’t on Lilah most liked person list but he can’t fight the feelings that her beauty brings to him. When his sister ends up missing Lilah comes forward to help him find her. But can these two opposite people work together?
This does have a hint of paranormal theme.
Ms. Camp is one of my favorite authors and I truly enjoyed this book.
Meet Constantine Moreland, flirtatious, handsome, fun-loving, rule breaking rogue and Lilah Holcutt, col hearted prim and proper, rule playing female. When these two are thrown together to persue the kidnappers of Cons mother and sister, love can’t be far behind. What follows is an adventure on the road to love. And what an adventure it is. The Moreland family is a wonderful one that is easy to love. This book was a joy to read and will keep you enthralled from start to finish. I could not put it down once I started reading. Candace Camp has a true gift at story telling. These Moreland family series keep getting better and better. Pick this one up and you will fall in love with the quirky Con and Lilah and want to read more of this family’s adventures. I was gifted this book for my honest review.
Constantine claims to be a gentleman but is quick to excuse his ‘lapses’. The story is too long, and definitely a twin to Alex’s story. Meh.
